Hi everyone! I’ve spent the last few days fighting for our Phone (2) with Nothing Support. I have some big news to share. After several rounds of emails, the support team officially acknowledged: * The Hardware is CAPABLE: They admitted the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 can easily handle Android 17 and beyond. * Flagship Priority**:** They agreed that dropping a flagship while supporting mid-range devices (Phone 2a) is a 'valid point' that needs attention. * High-Level Escalation: This case is now with the Senior Product Management team with high priority. Check the screenshots below for the proof. They told me: *'We're listening, and we look forward to addressing the community's concerns.'* This is a win for all of us. Today i did read the news about “no updates” to Android 17. To be honest i am a fan of “Nothing” since the first day, bought the N1 , ears , N2 , Ears 3, the CMF and a CMF Pro.

Also, my brother and two friends bought nothing because they liked my nothing stuff.

To be honest, i still like Nothing products, but in the future i will not buy any of it because of that issue.

And i am pretty sure that at the moment, most of n2 users don’t know that issue at the moment.

Heute habe ich in den Nachrichten gelesen das es für das N2 kein Android 17 update geben wird. Um ehrlich zu sein, bin ein Fan der ersten Stunde von Nothing.

Ich habe mit das N1 gekauft, die Ears, das N2, die Ears 3, die CMF Uhr und auch Die CMF Pro.

Sogar mein Bruder und zwei meiner Freunde haben sich dann Nothing gekauft weil Ihnen mein Zeugs so gut gefallen hat.

Um Ehrlich zu sein, bin ich zwar immer noch ein Fan von Nothing Produkten aber in Zukunft werde ich nichts mehr von Nothing kaufen. auf Grund der Update-Situation.

Ich bin mir auch ziemlich sicher das die meisten N2-Nutzer keine Kenntnis darüber haben das ihr Telefon zukünftig nicht mehr geupdatet wird.

I have zero idea what Nothing’s management smokes. Phone 2a (a mid-range) gets more updates than Phone 2 (a flagship), and a 2026 mid-ranger 4a gets earlier updates than their 2025-2026 flagship, Phone 3.

Those who bought phone 2 knew about how long it would be supported. They didn’t hide that fact. And paid for it. They delivered what they promised. Using the reasoning of “I’m going to hate the brand for not giving me something I knew I was never going to get” post is hilarious.

Yes, the lower tier phone 2a will get Android 17. And yes, that is fair. It was released a full year later. So any child over the age of 5 who can do basic arithmetic can deduce that 3 years of update support mean the “inferior” phone gets it while the “flagship” for the time doesn’t. Going as far as “losing hope” for a brand is a bit over dramatic considering they didn’t pull the rug from under anyone. We all got what was promised.

Would it be nice to get one extra major update? Heck yeah, it would. Would I act as if the sky was falling and spite the company that made the phone? Nope. I just move on and consider upgrading to a new phone if that’s what really matters to me.

This would be cool but my Phone (2) is pretty fried atp anyway. I’m fine if it gets no more software updates than what was promised (which we acknowledged when we bought the product, Nothing doesn’t owe us any more than what they’ve promised), but it would be great for those who can’t upgrade or don’t want to. Haters gonna hate. 🤷‍♂️ If trying to hold a company accountable for true sustainability and fair treatment of its flagship customers makes me “brainless” in your eyes, then so be it.

There are plenty of solid, logical arguments for why this matters. Keeping a premium, highly capable device like Phone (2) supported for longer directly reduces electronic waste and extends its lifecycle—something a modern tech brand should absolutely stand for.

If you are happy with artificial limitations and planned obsolescence on a flagship you paid premium money for, that’s your choice. But the rest of the community cares about long-term value and sustainability. We will keep pushing. 🌿

Samarth97 It’s not about “emotional attachment,” it’s about consumer rights and holding a brand accountable for what we paid for. If companies never changed their minds due to community backlash, the tech industry would look very different today. Plans change when enough people speak up.

Nothing has changed officially yet, which is exactly why now is the time to push, not roll over and give up. If you want to sit in the corner and accept whatever a corporation feeds you, go ahead. The rest of us will actually try to make a change. Peace. ✌️

Wanting Android 17 on Phone (2) is completely fair. The phone is still powerful and can easily handle it, so the demand itself makes sense.

But people comparing it to the 2a are ignoring one basic thing, the 2a launched almost a year later. Of course it’ll end later too. That extra update isn’t because the 2a is better …it’s just newer.

What feels weird to me is some users acting shocked now like Nothing suddenly betrayed them, when the update policy was already known at launch. Feels like some people bought it thinking “okay officially 3 years… but maybe they’ll surprise us with 4 bcz we bought their flagship”

That’s not really how brands work most of the time.

Still… I’m not against the demand at all. I actually hope Nothing changes their mind because longer support is always better and Phone (2) definitely deserves it hardware wise. I just think people should keep expectations realistic because “we escalated this to management” is something support teams say all the time.

And honestly the phone is not dead after Android 16 anyway. If someone really wants newer Android versions later, custom ROMs will definitely keep this phone alive for years. Yeah there can be integrity or banking app issues sometimes, but the option is there.

So yeah, asking for Android 17 is fair. Acting like Nothing committed a crime because they followed the same policy they already announced is where the argument starts looking childish.

Maybe @Samarth97 is a bit “blunt” in his replies… but he’s telling the truth. It’s fair to ask for Android 17 on the NP2, but it’s better not to get your hopes up too much, because the chances of that happening are very low. (I’m an NP2 user.)

DJ play integrity issue doesn’t occur when android version is out dated or device is old… it’s just in peoples mind that phone becomes useless after update cycle is over…

This image is of realme 5 pro which i bought 4th of june 2020 and it still passes all device integrity checks… it’s 6 years old running A11…

DJ Actually , All these requests and demands wouldn’t be here , if there were proper software support for all these 3 years , never in any update , I have seen even a little improvement to the camera optimization, hdr processing or anything.. the glyph lights introduced for the hype , staying as almosy a gimmicky till now , no new useful applications of glyph added in that area too . No essential space (ah..THAT BUTTON) . I don’t know what is stopping them from giving atleast the lock screen customisation, does it need a separate button ? NO ! Does it need the lastest high end chipset ? NO ! BUT STILL WE ARE NOT GETTING IT. AND THAT’S THE PROBLEM. The NP2’s changelog always stayed half compared to the newer budget devices. If the phone keeps degrading even during the period of the software support , that means it is not software support , just bland update pushing just for the sake of it . If the brand did their side properly, no one here would be asking for extra update …

AbiS_MjZL72iTVk I repeat, you’re right — the community exists to report issues to the Team. Some have been fixed, others unfortunately are still unresolved, and that’s something everyone can see. But asking to extend software support for the NP2 is not the same as asking them to fix a software bug or a hardware issues, those are requests the brand has a “duty to address” for customer satisfaction.

Requesting extended support, instead, is something the brand has the “right to refuse” (as DJ explained very clearly above 👆… no need to repeat it).

This doesn’t mean I’m siding with NOTHING. I’m an NP2 user myself and I’d be happy to get Android 17, but I’m realistic… and I’m not getting my hopes up.

PinoLY thanks for explaining I may be rude but it’s the truth people don’t want to accept it’s already seen form phone1 that no update extension is to be given, promise made was fulfilled nothing more nothing less
