loop (∞), a smart ring concept for Nothing

An invisible technology with visible superpowers

Light is a central element of this project.

A way to bring the product to life and tell more with less (screens).

Without light, not only would it simply be dark, but there would be no life at all in the universe

The ring communicates to the user what he needs through 900 small LEDs that make ephemeral interfaces appear.

Glyph is a signifier for important notifications from people

A true connection with yourself

loop (∞) monitors health and physical activity without being a friction to the user

What the sensors collect is fed into the Health app, so you always have the data you care about at hand

Tap to pay

Several users from the community have expressed interest in a ring from Nothing that would include NFC technology. In this way, through a gesture, you can pay on the go, whether you are at the bar or the toll booth.

The choice to make the loop (∞) translucent on the outside is to maintain Nothing’s design language without being a distraction to the user

The material still allows glimpses of the components by reacting to light. The inside, on the other hand, is transparent

Samsung’s entry into the smart ring market and the development of recent technologies made me think that this might be more than a niche

Nothing could carve out a space with its ring and standing out through design

here are some of the inspirations behind this concept

The Nike+ Fuelband was definitely the main source for inspiration. I also found interesting the lights from the Kia EV9

This is amazing! Love the trailer video and breakdown, and especially seeing where you got your inspiration from. I think smart rings are definitely going to be popular in future and if I was going to buy one I think this would be very tempting!

AndreaFanelli Awesome stuff! Thanks for sharing, so great to see all the inspirations and thought process!
(I edited you post to arrrange images a little bit, I hope you don’t mind!)

adbo Thank you! I felt that a trailer no matter how impactful it is cannot tell all the work behind it. I like to be transparent about the creative process and inspirations.

When I saw the Samsung Galaxy Ring, I immediately knew there was an opportunity for Nothing. Scrolling through the comments on Discord, I realized that it was also something that the community had requested

Ladle I tried to make a wearable device that was not as intrusive as a smartwatch. I feel that currently smartwatches with all the notifications and calls are becoming smartphones on the wrist. I wanted to design a technology that doesn’t get in the way in the style of Nothing

Rob ⚡️ Thank you Rob! They were meant to be arranged as you did but I had no idea how to do it

AndreaFanelli wow this is incredible, thank you for your efforts! Where do I sign up please? 😁 enjoyed going through the scenarios and videos too

adbo Completely agree, I think the wearable market is only going to become more popular in smaller forms. There are a few ring products out there now but none are as appealing as this concept!

AndreaFanelli Not at all, it’s really great to see community members expressing their creativity, especially when it’s such efforts like you have displayed. Wondering, do you have other ideas in the pipeline? 👀

Awesome stuff, really liking this concept. Smart rings are definitely a form factor that some companies are going to explore moving forward and I always like to see what that could look like with the Nothing aesthetic.

I’m not much of a jewellery person myself but I could probably consider something like this as an exception or a bracelet type form factor.

Derren Thank you Derren, I can see your vision about wearables

I thought of a ring as a less intrusive form factor than a smartwatch. You still need feedback of some kind to communicate things to users. In this case instead of a screen there are LEDs that light up for a short time creating ephemeral interfaces

ok this is fucking impressive. WOW, this 1st promo video is insane. And the (NUMBER) replace with the infinity to match the Loop name is really well-thought-out !!

Just congrats on this. I’m not a ring person my self as I have small fingers, but damn this is so cool.

Remi F I really appreciate this, thank you! I also noticed that the dragonfly was missing as an animal in the Nothing universe, so I tried to include it for a few seconds in the video
