Updates for Nothing Phone (2)

KaranSehgal

Hey Nothing fam! 🖤

I know I’m not the only one wondering — what’s the update roadmap looking like for the Nothing Phone 2?

We haven’t had much official word on when the next big software update is dropping, and the community deserves some transparency. Nothing has always been great at keeping us in the loop, so I’m hoping we can get:

✅ A confirmed timeline for the next OS update

✅ Android version upgrade details

✅ Security patch schedule going forward

If you’re also curious, let’s get some visibility on this thread. The more voices, the better the chances of an official response!

KaranSehgal no android version update only security patch for 1 year left that too ofc bimonthly one update is going to come in this month

Coldpaw

The Nothing Phone 2 won’t receive any further major updates: Nothing promised three years of updates and has released Android 14 (OS 2.5), Android 15 (OS 3.0) and finally Android 16 (OS 4.0) for NP2 and thus has fulfilled the update commitment.

It will receive security updates until summer 2027, since Nothing usually releases bi-monthly security updates, we’ll likely see the next one rolling out sometime later this month.

Last but not least Nothing pretty much never gives any clear timeline for smaller updates, so you won’t get any answer to that request.

Nothing should give us atleast 2 more os updates

Coldpaw

Why? You purchased the phone although it was known Android 16 was the last update.

We are repeating the very same discussion 1:1 of the Nothing Phone (1) from one year ago, when NP1 owners also demanded more OS updates because of “reasons”.

Arpan

As MKBHD once said “Don’t buy the phone for what it might become, buy it for what it is now”. It promised for 3 years and completed it’s life cycle so there’s no point. I mean if they give it to the p2 why give up the p1 then? They will have to give that Android 16 aswell, why stop there, what about cmf1? That is also technically a flagship for the cmf lineup and it can go further. Just because it’s possible doesn’t mean its feasible

My nothing phone 2 has started giving data connectivity issues , and i see lot of users here reporting the same issue here. There seems to be no proper resolution for the same from nothing

Sirius_EU

Mrdurdaari You should provide more information,

which country are you in, and which mobile carrier are you using?

MayurK_FgH7Snoyax

Sirius_EU Sorry for talking off topic bt I’m new here and I still haven’t got any approval to post anything

grepGander

Sirius_EU A lot of phones experience the issue, irrelevant of their country.

I wrote about it multiple times, such as here:

grepGander This is unbelievably annoying. Randomly, out of nowhere and for no reason at all, my mobile data just turns itself off. Then I turn it on, then it’s fine for some random period - maybe an hour, maybe a day… but it will turn itself off on its own.

But to turn it back on it’s not enough to just tap it, no no. I turn it back on but I still have no internet access on any SIM unless I toggle airplane mode, then disable it, ONLY THEN my data (on both SIMs) is active again. For how long? Who knows, it’s a mystery…

Absolutely not a single network-related issue before this update. A 💩load of them since updating. That’s the “excitement” that people want to have in the OS, I’m assuming? Because stable and issue-free OS is boring? I like boring, this is not fun at all.

Edit: And just like with that hotspot issue ( #5891853 ) I can’t report this because I can’t recreate it as it happens completely randomly, it can take 2-3 days, or 2-3 minutes…

He had the exact same issue on a brand new Phone (4b), 4:30 in the review:

Plus multiple other threads recently, such as:

#59686

#59998

Etc.

Sirius_EU

grepGander Yes, I read your post, but at this point I’d really like to understand whether this is a phone‑model issue, a carrier issue, a country‑specific limitation, an OS update problem, or even hardware-related

Because right now it’s impossible to figure out what all the affected users have in common.

Why does it happen on some devices while on others (identical ones) it doesn’t?

grepGander

Sirius_EU Because right now it’s impossible to figure out what all the affected users have in common.

And it’s impossible to log because you never know when it’s going to happen again 😁 It’s Saturday today, I haven’t had it once since Tuesday, then back in Tuesday it happened twice consecutively in the same minute lol. It turned itself off without me touching anything, I turned it on, it turned itself again while I was still starring at the toggle. Annoying but, LUCKILY, it’s not frequent enough. The problem is that it happens irrelevant of anything - it can happen mid usage, it can happen while your phone is idling in your bag/pocket, it can happen anywhere fully randomly so unless you check your phone frequently you will never know you’re offline (if you’re offline, naturally).

Sirius_EU Why does it happen on some devices while on others (identical ones) it doesn’t?

Really no idea, and I’m honestly curious about it too. Carrier and phone issues can be safely ruled out, as this happen globally on totally different carriers with completely different models of Nothing phones (which do not even share the same SoC, and a modem is part of an SoC), not just models but also different age (including a completely new (4b) which was only just launched).

Edit: That issue is happening since at least a year ago:

Sirius_EU

grepGander So if we exclude the phone model, the country, and the carrier, we’re left with only a few (ugly) possibilities:

poor device handling, damage caused by drops, moisture infiltration, prolonged use at high temperatures and so on;

poor quality control during device assembly;

(this is the worst one) purchasing and using CPU that didn’t pass all quality tests.

Obviously these are just hypotheses, and I have no concrete proof of any of them.

grepGander

Or, most likely, the OS’s power management being poorly optimised and killing the service (mobile data) as if the strongest power saver mode was active.

Sirius_EU

grepGander Quite logical, but it doesn’t explain why it happens to some devices while others work just fine.

grepGander

Sirius_EU No idea. I’m aware of that issue (from reading the community before), but I never had it until 23 days ago when I updated to the June 2026 update. Since then, starting from the post-update reboot, I’ve had nothing but network issues with my (3a). From 0% issues to 100% issues, immediately.

It’s the same with my gf’s (3a). She also didn’t have a single problem until the latest update. I find it quite unlikely that two phones (from two completely different batches, as my gf has her (3a) since Nov 2025 and I do since May 2025) broke simultaneously at the exact same moment (both updated at the same time, as I literally pressed both “reboot to complete update” or whatever the name was for those buttons, both at once) and that they have identical issues related to network connectivity.

FrancisLarson_fYNj1gOj30

My phone is on Android 14 2.5.1.A and has been telling me for a long time that “Can’t check for update. Updates are temporarily unavailable.” when I try to do a system update. This is not right and I am getting tired of it.
