Phone (1) is reaching the end of its software lifecycle. Launched with Android 12, Phone (1) received its final major Android update with Android 15, fulfilling our promise of 3 major Android updates. With this latest release, Phone (1) also receives the July 2026 security patch, completing 4 years of security updates and bringing its software lifecycle to a close. Phone (1) is where Nothing OS began. It introduced our first ideas around a cleaner, more intentional smartphone experience, from the Glyph Interface and dot matrix design language to a more focused take on Android. Over the years, Phone (1) has grown with Nothing OS and helped shape the software experience we continue to build today. While this marks the end of its software lifecycle, the device remains highly usable and an important part of the Nothing story. What’s new in this update 👇 🛠️ General improvements and bug fixes ⚙️ Enhanced overall system stability 🛡️ Updated to the July 2026 security patch Your device may use more power and feel warmer during installation. Performance will return to normal after the update is complete. I still remember the Phone (1) launch event in London, which was one of the first chances of creating a community meet up. A great moment to see Nothing launch it’s first device, and we’re now many devices in. I remember the first time seeing this new Glyph interface, and thinking “Wow, we’re truely onto something special here”. I salute the Phone (1) and thank you for it’s service 🫡

Hello Rohit sir, I am from India and a proud user of phone 1 which I exchanged and bought a phone 3 last year in September but the phone 3 carries black crush issue and green tint issue since then and not fixed by nothing team yet. I beg you to fix this as watching content looks pathetic on phone 3 being nothing flagship phone

Even though I never owned a Phone (1), that was the Phone that cought my full attention for the Nothing brand and I still love its design.

Yes, I am still rocking my Nothing Phone (1) in 2026! 📱✨ Bought it during the pre-order days in July 2022, and it has been my daily driver ever since. Even though this is the final update, this legendary phone is still highly usable and holds a special place in my heart. Thank you, Nothing, for this beautiful journey!

I still remember the feeling of excitement, seeing and feeling the Phone (1) through the beta program as I featured in the Nothing Series #4 video. Then to attend the in-person launch event, Return to Instinct, meeting some fellow community members for the first time felt so special and I knew I was a part of something good.

Phone (1) served me well. Now I’m rocking the Phone (3) and Nothing OS has come such a long way since its release. I’m really looking forward to seeing how it evolves in the coming years.

I’ve always caught myself coming back to Phone (1) and its more “raw”, unadulterated (?) and nostalgic Nothing aesthetic. Even though I never owned it, I did own the Ear (1) and that was a great experience.

Just as an example, put the Ear (1) and Phone (1) side by side, then the Ear (3) and Phone (4a) side by side and you can already see how much the Nothing design has matured. And I like where it’s going to be fair, but something about the Phone (1) specifically has always stuck with me. Maybe it’s the itty bitty recording light, the exclusive, abrasive ringtones or the huge, unsegmented first generation glyphs.

Whatever it may be, this device is definitely still usable and to those who are using it, take care of it! It’ll make as a great conversation piece somewhere, as well as being a cool piece of smartphone history.

Zac 🛸 Nothing Phone (1) was never just a smartphone to me.

It was the first phone I bought through the Pre-Launch Pass, without watching a single review. Normally, I wait until after launch and check reviews before buying any device. But this time, I trusted Carl Pei and his vision.

From the day I got it until May 2026, I never faced a single major issue with the device.

This phone holds countless memories. Thousands of photos, unforgettable moments, work, studies, travels—it was there through so many chapters of my life.

When the battery reached the point where it needed replacement, I eventually upgraded by exchanging it for the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro.

To be honest, if I had the funds at that time, I would never have exchanged my Phone (1). I would have simply replaced the battery and continued using it. But circumstances led me to upgrade.

Now that Phone (1) has officially reached the end of its software lifecycle, it doesn’t feel like the end of software support to me—it feels like the end of a beautiful journey.

Thank you, Nothing Phone (1). You’ll always be one of the most memorable devices I’ve ever owned. 🤍

real_mikhaiel me too got a 4a pro but still have the NP 1 and still lasts a day on a charge with light use, it was a great phone sill like it’s angry flicker when you get a bothersome message

I haven’t used my Phone (1) as my daily driver since I upgraded to Phone (2) in July 2023.

However, it has remained in my possession and it has pride of place on my Nothing Shelf. I bust it out, now and then, at Community Events, letting the Glyphs light up in all of their glory. You may have seen me? 👀

I shall download the final Security Update later today and remember this iconic piece of hardware with great fondness 🌹

I’ve recently been rocking my Phone (1) due to issues on my Phone (3) which has given me an opportunity to reminisce on what made it such a special device! It also stands testament that I could return to the Phone (1) without issue after swapping through Phone (2a), CMF Phone (1), Phone (3) & even Phone (4a) Pro.

What stands out far and away is how Phone (1) manages to still capture the eye and stand out amongst the crowd and the original Glyph Matrix can communicate so much without the need for a display functionality.

Phone (1) set a high bar and kickstarted a solid platform which Nothing has since grown from!

Zac 🛸 I am still incredibly happy with my Nothing Phone (1). It is a legendary smartphone that honestly feels like a part of me. It’s compact, the Glyph interface is unique, and people are still amazed by the lights at family events! With a decent processor, it easily handles day-to-day tasks, light editing, and has a good camera—especially for videography. I love the symmetrical bezels.Having used this phone for almost four years, the battery life started getting bad, so I replaced the battery last February. The backup is still only average, which might be due to the latest software updates, but it’s totally fine by me. I plan on using this phone for years to come. I know it’s reaching its final major software update, which makes me feel a bit sad. I really hope Nothing considers giving us minor security patches and adding a ‘True Black’ dark mode feature for the Phone (1)

I don’t have personal experience with Phone 1, but my friend had one and would always talk about the glyphs, the camera, and how smooth the OS felt. He then upgraded to Phone 2, which also worked perfectly fine until he shifted to another brand

Still using my Phone(1). It’s been Solid throughout and really sad that it’s reached its Software Update EOL.

I’m wondering if there’s a business case for LTS via a subscription model. I know I would pay to keep my Phone(1) going for an extra few years. It’s still a very capable device. :-)

و همین الان این گوشی رو دارم

در واقع کسی هستم که با یک نقد عمیق به ناتینگ برای همیشه این گوشی را پیش خود دارم

و نقد منم این است که چرا باید گلیف اینترفیس بآن ظاهر زیبا و فوق العاده باید با این گلیف های کوچک عوض شود

میترسم روزی برسد که دیگر ناتینگ فراموش کند که یک برند خاص است

اما همچنان امیدوارم که روز به روز پیش رفت کند

امیدوارم آقای کارل پی متوجه پیامم شود🌹

Zac 🛸 The Phone (1) journey has come full circle. From pre-ordering it to getting the battery replaced last week at the exclusive nothing service centre and now the final update, what a journey it has been!

Still remember the excitement before the launch and the 🦜 of course. It was a imperfectly perfect device and still is. Nothing has come a long way since then and the future looks even exciting

I purchased Phone 1 for my mother in December 2023. I wanted to buy something unique for her. And she loves it so much. The phone is still like new and the battery is good. The Devcheck app shows only 320 cycles.

I hope it will be usable for another year or two. It is more than capable for daily tasks.

I still remember unboxing my Phone 1 and was like"Wow, now this is something different". I’ve been hooked every since. I’m rocking a Phone 3 and my wife Phone 2. Loving the OS and Essential Space, can’t wait to see what’s next but will never forget my Phone 1.
