  • Behind The Scenes: Nothing's First Community Photowalk - Phone (2a)

Hey Community!

I hope everyone is doing well. I’m excited to share the incredible experience I had during the recent Nothing Community Photowalk in London. It was a day filled with exploration, creativity, and connection, thanks to the upcoming launch of the Phone (2a). The excitement was in the air as we gathered at the Nothing Soho store, each of us signing an NDA before being handed the new device. It felt like being part of a secret society, and that was just the beginning.

We kicked things off with introductions, sharing our photography passions and styles. Despite the gloomy London weather, which threatened rain, our spirits weren’t dampened in the slightest. @lewis_morfitt , our Soho Store Manager and guide for the day, outlined the photowalk plan, and we set off on our adventure.

The streets around the Soho store were our first playground. We experimented with the Phone (2a)'s camera, testing its limits and discovering its capabilities. The energy was infectious as we moved on to iconic spots like Soho Square and the magical Phoenix Garden.

By midday, we found ourselves at Fairshot Café, indulging in some of the most delicious cakes I’ve ever tasted. It was here that two amazing individuals joined us to model for the afternoon’s portrait session. With our energy replenished, we continued to Somerset House, a grand and majestic place next to the River Thames. The portrait shoot there was a highlight, with everyone fully engaged in capturing the beauty of our surroundings and our models.

As the day turned to evening, the sun peeked through the clouds, offering us that perfect golden light photographers dream of. We wrapped up our shoot at the National Theatre, satisfied with the day’s work. But this photowalk was about more than just photography. It was about the conversations, the shared moments, and the genuine good vibes that come from a group of like-minded individuals coming together. Here’s a group photo taken at the end of the photowalk. There’s one cool pre-historic Easter egg hidden in this photo, by the way. Find it!

This photowalk was Nothing’s first, and what a start it was! Our group was diverse and brimming with talent, from the extremely talented Lewis to the community team and the wonderful models. It felt like a gathering of friends, which is what happens when you bring together people who believe in a shared future and the power of community.

I’m already looking forward to more events like this. A huge shoutout to @Rob ⚡️ and @Natalie ✨ for organising such a fantastic day. And guess what? Mladen Hoyss, the Creative Director of Nothing’s Software, will host the following photowalk in Bangalore, India. I can’t wait to hear all about it.

So, that was our day, a blend of tech excitement and photographic exploration, all wrapped up in the warmth of community spirit. If you ever get a chance to join a photowalk, I highly recommend it. It’s not just about the photos you take; it’s about the experience, the people, and the memories you create along the way.

Until next time, keep exploring, keep creating, and stay connected.

Cheers!

Great write up Rohit, thanks for bringing to life the day and sharing some candid snaps. It looks like it was very successful, some familiar (and new) faces in the crowd and something I’d love to try and be part of next time. As you say, besides getting a first hands on with the device, these opportunities made special by the in person connections and conversations with the rest of the community.

What would you say impressed you most about the camera capabilities of Phone (2a), sharing as much as you are allowed to say ofc 😁

RohitPakalapati bummed I wasn’t invitied for this - given London and all - but saying that, discounting staff, this is a really small group, smaller than I would have imagined so next time hopefully. It would great if the other commnity members said hello here and on discord and shared their experiences of the day.

When can we look forward to the photos everyone took? or do we have to wait I’m guessing until the 2a launch?

Please, do photowalk someday in Ahmedabad, I am ready to volunteer or kind of help in hosting a photowalk with my University clubs.

Looks like the photo walk was a very successful day!

Nice to briefly see Rob, Natalie, Rohit and Derren outside the store as I walked to work! Hopefully next time my schedule shall allow me to put in an application and join in.

The community events Nothing host are always ones with fond memories. Getting a collective of enthusiastic and like-minded individuals always makes these events!

Excited to see what Nothing Phone (2a) - None Pixelated Edition looks like! 😉

RohitPakalapati Wow, looks like so much fun and such a beautiful day. The sky looks amazing in the pictures, and the overall colors are well balanced. I guess the cams on the P2(a) will shine overall.

Thank you for inviting me on this photo walk, I had a lovely time and it was pleasure meeting everyone 😊

I had only recently come across the Nothing brand, so it was a great opportunity to test out one of their new products. The Nothing Team were very welcoming and the photo walk was well organized. It was going at a good pace with 10 – 15 minutes to snap away at each place, so we managed to cover quite a few good spots. We sat down for cakes and a drink in between, then joined by two girls who were going to model for us at our next location, so it was a good mixture of Street Photography, Architecture, Portraiture and anything that catches your eye. We finished off by each sharing our favourite shots so it was nice to get a sneak peek of what everyone took. I look forward to seeing more photos in the coming weeks.

Big thanks to Natalie, Lewis and Rob for organizing this and hopefully there is more to come!

Ealesy101 Yeah, that’s a shame! I thought you’d stick with us for the photo walk! You could’ve pulled off some killer shots. Really looking forward to catching up with you at the next upcoming events.

haze_london It was a pleasure interacting with you, Hayley. Your genuine curiosity is clearly reflected in your eyes. I’m happy that you’ve joined us and am looking forward to seeing you more at the events.

Pretty sure the special focus on the camera means we’ll be getting a nothing gallery.. and that means phone 1 and 2 owners too - at least it makes perfect sense to me, hope this is a no-brainer for the company too..

            RohitPakalapati Unfortunately, work called!

Hopefully next time, would be great to see you at the next Community event! Would have been good to get some hands on time with 2a and see how it’s camera performs!

It was a fantastic day! Thanks to all those involved with the organisation of the event.

Going into this walk i had very limited experience and knowledge regarding photography, i’ve very much always been a point and shoot person. Not only was it a great opportunity to meet up with some fellow community members, but it was also a great opportunity to learn more about smartphone photography.

Photography, like art, is very subjective and people have different styles and preferences. This walk was a great opportunity to learn about how others value photography.

And of course, the main event… Getting to try Phone (2a) I can’t wait for people to see the amazing photos that were taken and for more of you to get hands on with the device.
