Hey everyone, ⚡️ The Nothing OS 5.0 beta is rolling out, and if you’re on it, you’ve probably already got thoughts. This thread is the place to share them. 💬 Whether you’ve come across a bug, found a feature that you want to share, or just want to hear what others are experiencing, jump in. To all Nothing Phone (3) users: If you’re planning to upgrade to Beta 5.0, I suggest holding off for now. It still has quite a few bugs and issues.

I’m facing frequent app crashes, Chrome often doesn’t open, and even when it does, pages sometimes don’t load. Other apps are also behaving similarly.

Another serious issue is with incoming calls. Sometimes the phone rings, but the incoming call screen doesn’t appear. I have to restart the phone to get it working again, but after 4–5 minutes, the same issue can return.

Because of these problems, the phone became unreliable for basic daily use. I eventually had to factory reset my phone and roll back to version 4.1.

I’d strongly recommend waiting for the next update and letting the beta mature before upgrading, especially if you’re using the Phone (3) as your primary device.

PratulPandey I have no issues and I use Microsoft Edge not Chrome. I am really enjoying using the Beta and trying all the new features.

Vast How is an update to Android 17 just a skin pack?

PratulPandey As of now I am not facing any of such bugs. Chrome, apps, banking apps everything working flawlessly.

It’s almost like the whole point of an OS is to manage hardware resources and enable software/apps to run, hmmm 🤔 You can use apps, you know (and they can run because - you have an OS on your phone)? 🤔 If you’re on your PC, say Windows, do you just go around through Windows menus, watch animations, and other crap, or do you actually use anything else on your PC, such as play games?

I for one am super hyped about the new camera features such as tuning and using presets on video. This is going to make the preset options so much better. Adding a lot more customization and utility. I’ve already tuned a preset that works great for me. I think there definitely can be better optimization as far as the post processing and the auto iso. Sometimes it struggles to find the right iso levels depending on the lighting. You can sort of see some jittering while it struggles to make that distinction. But overall no problems under good lighting conditions. Personally I would like the ai driven post processing completely removed. Id rather have a blurry photo than a photo that’s literally a misrepresentation of what the camera captured. I know that’s not specific to NOS 5. But still can’t stand that feature.

As far as using presets on video. I am thrilled. Previously you had to do a workaround by holding the shutter to record with a preset filter. Which resulted in low frame video capture. This change is much appreciated.

So far, nothing new has happened. No visual difference between 4.1 and 5.0. No split screen between notifications of the UI panel. And there’s no mention of the supposed AI app creator app that’s built within the phone itself instead of the website (read only apps).

The only noticeable difference that I’ve seen so far is that loading between apps or switching between them is marginally faster, and third party keyboards are suffering some kind of lag when using voice to text. This exact same issue has been happening on my razr phone for a while now. Keeping my fingers crossed hoping that the battery drain and passive battery drain has been fixed.

But yeah, other than that, exact same software, exact same flavor, no difference.

Edit: I forgot to mention the phone is now suffering some kind of charge throttling when using premium charging adapters (ie, Anker, UGREEN, Cuktech, etc.).

I think it would be nice if you let user to make a spce between setting icon. ability to make a gap can help user to separate the settings as needed.
Please allow user to fingerprint unlock and stay in the lock screen with a unlocked device like a face unlock.

Thanks but I don’t want that. In home or whatever, I don’t want my device to stay unlocked. I’m an iPhone user I’m used to see messages content by unlocking my phone and see the content from the lock screen. since android face unlock is not relyable so I’m requesting a feature give the user a ability to unlock the device and stay in the lock screen and see the message and other sensetive notification content.

These are a small small issues only, but just pointing them out 👾

The notification shade bouncing animation is lagging a bit in 60 FPS also much appreciated if transparency is added to the notification shade and icons (custom transparent icon pack also would be great).

In the new Collector widget, the auto background erase is cool, but the edges are not accurate. It would be nice if a manual edge erase button or fine-tune button is added. Also, it would be nice if it had an edge layer will be in circular and rectangular frame.

In the new Glyph app, it would be nice if there was a button to enable and disable Glyph. Right now, I think we need to click on the Quick Settings toggle.

Also, I think it must be due to the current build without the transparent theme. Sometimes the lock screen widget is glitching; it may not be an issue.

Also, by any chance, is there essential key remapper in the pipeline? 🙂

How long until the open beta is certified by Google, or will that come with the stable release in OCT?
