Nothing, we’re not asking you to break your promise—we’re asking you to make the right call for Phone (2). Phone (2) is the flagship of the Phone (2) series, yet the cheaper Phone (2a) and 2a Plus will receive one Android version further simply because they launched on Android 14, while Phone (2) launched on Android 13. What makes this even more frustrating is that Phone (2) and Phone (2a) have already been receiving Nothing OS updates on essentially the same release cycle. This suggests that the software foundation is already closely aligned between the two devices. So extending Nothing OS 5.0 to Phone (2) doesn’t seem unreasonable. We understand that Nothing promised three major Android updates. But this is exactly why the community is asking for an exception: the more powerful flagship Phone (2) is being left one Android version behind a cheaper device from the same series. The hardware is more than capable. Giving Phone (2) Nothing OS 5.0 would be a meaningful goodwill gesture toward the users who supported the flagship—and a strong statement that Nothing values its existing community.

Nothing, please give Phone (2) Nothing OS 5.0. We’re not asking for special treatment. We’re asking you to reconsider an unfair outcome created by the timing of the Android versions.

One thing I genuinely appreciate about Nothing is that they’re sticking to the software update commitments they made. 👏

Yes, they could probably keep supporting older devices like Phone (1), Phone (2) and CMF Phone 1 for even longer. These updates may not be major, but they still require developers, testing, optimization, QA, infrastructure and money. 💰

Long-term software support isn’t free.

So while these may be relatively minor updates, Nothing is still keeping its promise — and that deserves some credit. 👍

anjanyadavby They have to give np2 users nos5.0 because before that the os wasn’t so polished and nice and we didn’t have much glyph support and we had to rely on paid third party apps and that’s not fair at all.

Np2 hardware is capable of nos5.0 but unfortunately np1 isn’t.

Customizing before nos 5.0 was a horror movie (terrible) because we had few color options and stuff.

I hope they do this for the community because by not doing this I specially think that they don’t give a damn about their customers.

If they don’t do this I might turn into lineage os because they do give a damn and I hate to say it but I think I’m not going to buy another np.

Vwoorp_000 That’s a fair point. If Phone (2) users get OS 5.0 while Phone (1) users don’t, I can definitely see how that could reopen the discussion about fairness and software support.

At the same time, Phone (1)’s processor has its limitations. If the Phone (2) hardware and processor are genuinely capable of handling Nothing OS 5.0 smoothly, then I think it makes sense to at least consider it. The update shouldn’t be about unfairness—it should ultimately come down to whether the hardware can provide a proper experience.

I completely agree that Phone (1) users played a huge role in helping Nothing grow and shouldn’t be forgotten.

I agree with you, the Phone 2 is more than capable enough for android 17, nothing should consider it as a goodwill, other brands like Samsung and Apple offer 8 years of updates to their flagship devices for comparison.

As a phone 2 user, I aggree. I decided to buy the phone 2 not that long ago, when phone 3a and 3a pro were available aswell. But I wanted that design only phone 2 could offer me, I did not need a third camera lens or an ai button but wanted the camera to not be in the middle of the phones back, because… i just don’t like it that much. So the only option besides that, that would have the other things I expected from a phone, was phone 2, since phone 3 was too expensive and I really wanted the transparent look (which meant no cmf phone aswell) . Even though I can live with Nothing os 4 for a bit longer, not getting os 5 might end my journey with nothing phones 💔, as I want such a design with a good software for a not that high price. 😭

Why is Samsung not doing the same, then? The S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra are all on Android 16, but they won’t receive Android 17, and these days they only receive security updates once every four months:

Just a year later, Samsung released much weaker devices that will get the Android 17 update. So why not the S22 series, their flagship models? Or is Nothing the only OEM supposed to provide “just one more update”? It’s like kids with “Just five more minutes.” when they have to go to sleep. Lineage OS 24 (Android 17) is coming in about 40 days for the Phone (2). Flash that (it’s an amazing OS) or, well, buy a new phone if you feel that you simply must have Android 17 🤷‍♂️ No cost, vs a lot of money cost, it’s your pick.

OutsideTheHypeZ3 If Nothing budges then this will create a precedent. Next year when 2a are being phased out they will complain too. I get why nothing decided that and I am prepared that this new android version and OS will be my last. We knew the terms and conditions of the software and security updates. Who will incur the extra expenses for testing and fixing bugs of Nothing 1 and 2?

So why would the people that decided to buy the more expensive “flagship” device at that point get less updates and a worse software? What is the point of buying the better and more expensive phones from a company if they get treated worse?

Benji Reason been that, Phone 2 was launched in July 2023 with Android 13 whiles Phone 2a was launched in March 2024 with Android 14 onboard, so Phone 2 has elapsed it’s OS upgrade, but I think it should be at least 4yrs of OS upgrade coz it’s the flagship of the 2 series

I wouldn’t mind dropping the nothing phone 2 if the 2a wasn’t getting os5 but to give os5 to the lesser phone feels like a kick in the ass was waiting for new flagship as I don’t like the phone 3 asthetically but now I don’t know what to get… don’t like iOS and apple and don’t like Samsung nothing felt like a breath of fresh air had little to no bloatware but it seems like the support just isn’t there and it’s literally an age thing as the 2 was more powerful and had more ram than the 2a…. Poor move nothing

A Message to Nothing: Let Phone (2) Live One More Chapter

I’ve been supporting Nothing since it was just an idea — before it

became the brand we know today.

I bought the Nothing Phone (1) and Nothing Phone (2) right when they were released, and I also bought the Ear (2) alongside my Phone (2). I’ve genuinely invested in this ecosystem because I believe in what Nothing is trying to build.

Over the years, I’ve recommended Nothing to my family, friends, and everyone around me. But I didn’t just recommend the products — I tried to explain what Nothing actually stands for: the transparent design philosophy, the unique approach to hardware, Nothing OS, the attention to detail, and the idea of doing things differently instead of simply following the smartphone industry.

That’s why I’m asking the Nothing team to seriously consider bringing Nothing OS 5.0 to at least the Nothing Phone (2).

And honestly, the Phone (2)’s hardware is more than capable of handling Nothing OS 5.0 and Android 17. The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, 12GB RAM option, and overall hardware still provide more than enough performance for a modern version of Nothing OS. This shouldn’t be a limitation of hardware.

Phone (2) is still a phone that many loyal users invested in because they believed in Nothing from the beginning. Keeping it supported with a major software update would mean a lot to the people who helped build this community from the ground up.

I’m a loyal Nothing fan, and I genuinely want to stay part of this community for years to come. I’ll be upgrading to another Nothing device soon enough — but I hope Nothing continues to show that being an early supporter and a loyal customer actually matters.

Please, Nothing — give Phone (2) one more major chapter. Bring Nothing OS 5.0 and Android 17 to Phone (2).

if they dropped all the 2 series I’d be like fair enough but I made a choice to buy the flagship 2 series the 2 and not the lesser 2a because it was the better specification phone now to give the update to the lesser model is just wrong obviously the phone 2 is more than capable this is a purely financial decision for nothing to try and force us to upgrade device…

I think the only real option will be “root” the device and convince it that it’s a 2a…. So we can have the update. Hopefully the next flagship will be better than the 3 but at this stage I’m seriously considering a pixel

Whitty It’s not possible to spoof the identity of a device with completely different hardware (they’re not even the same SoC vendor, one is Qualcomm, another is Mediatek). It is possible to hard brick it by trying to, though.
