Hello everyone,

I’m considering making a significant change in my tech life and would love to hear your opinions and advice on it.

After almost 16 years using iPhone and deeply immersed in the Apple ecosystem, I’m contemplating the possibility of trying something new: the Nothing Phone 2a or even the 2. The idea of exploring a different device is exciting to me, but I also have some concerns and questions.

The most important aspect of my current experience with my iPhone 12 Pro is the ease of sharing a photo library with my wife through our Apple One plan and iCloud. Does anyone have experience with similar alternatives in the NothingOS ecosystem?

Additionally, I’ll need to transfer important data such as photos, videos, notes, voice memos, and contacts. Could anyone provide guidance on how to do this efficiently and safely from iOS to NothingOS?

While I’m excited about the idea of exploring a new operating system after so long, I’m concerned about the transition and how it would affect integration with other Apple devices we have at home, such as Apple TV, AirPods, MacBook Air, etc. Has anyone experimented with interoperability between Apple devices and Nothing 2a?

I’m also willing to adapt to new ways of interacting with my phone, but I’d like to know what resources or support are available to facilitate this transition. Can anyone recommend tutorials or online support groups to assist with getting familiar with NothingOS?

Lastly, I’d love to learn more about the differences between iCloud and Google services in terms of storage, features, security, and device compatibility. Does anyone have detailed information or a comparative chart they could share?

I greatly appreciate any advice, experiences, or information you can offer. Thank you in advance for your help!

Best regards,

Art ZeGal

DarrenCurtis Welcome to the bright side!

Nothing phones DON’T have a different method of transferring data from an iPhone to an Android, but the instructions are similar to if you are to set up a Google Pixel:

  • Connect your new Android phone to your old iPhone using your Lightning to USB-C cable (When asked if you have a cable, select “No cable,” and follow the instructions to connect your iPhone and Android via Wifi using the Switch to Android app.)
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to choose what to copy over (Turn off iMessage and FaceTime first)
  • That’s it.

Please help, the migration from iphone is not working. when I plug in both phones (iphone 15 and nothing 2a) the nothng says can’t connect to other device, try another cable. If your other device is an iphone keep it unloked. of course it is unlocked and tried different cables, apple’s and nothing’s. also tried through wifi, doesn’t work either

i´ve reset the nothing to factory settings to try again, it did not work either… any ideas?

thanks

I was recommended to try Nothing phones by a repeat passenger at the airport I work at who has one. I’ve been thinking of replacing my rather battered iphone 11 as i’ve had it since it came out and it’s showing its age, especially with battery life. I’ve been looking at the Phone 2(A) Plus and will probably go for it when it comes out, but I was wondering how much difference there is between the two?

  • I originally started buying Apple phones (around the iphone 5) as I hated the old Android OS and the fact that you had to keep going into the apps and manually shutting them down, plus the constant ‘Running low on space’ messages. Is that still the same on Android or have they moved to a much more efficient Apple-style of app shutdown?
  • Is it only Nothing that make cases for their phones, or are there other manufacturers?
  • I’m assuming that you can use any brand of chargers/cables and that they don’t have to be 45-50w? (I’m willing to accept longer charge times).
  • I assume Bluetooth connectivity is the same as every other phone out there-it doesn’t matter what brand it is? Or do I have to use Nothing propiatry products?
  • Will USB-C wired headphones work on Phone2(A) Plus?
  • How can I transfer my photos/ringtones etc from iphone to Phone2(A) Plus? Is it possible?
  • Same question for all my apps?
  • Can you use custom images/images from your phone gallery as wallpapers and contact icons?
  • Does Nothing use something similar to the Cloud/iCloud backup?

Sorry if this seems like a lot of silly questions, i’m not too tech-savvy when it comes to phones etc.

There are a lot different… if you are in iPhone for long like me… and no too tech-savvy… i would suggest you can stick to iphone for less issue…

my answer… may not be correct:

  1. Android phones have lots of memory power nowadays… compare to iphone.. so, you probably won’t hit the ‘Running low on space again.
  2. Cases are very limited, not like iphone you can get it anywhere.
  3. Yup, you can use any USB charger that you like.
  4. Bluetooth is the same.. i connect the same device to nothing and iphone… no issue.
  5. USB WIred headset works on Nothing phone.
  6. You can’t transfer ringtones. For photo.. you can get large Google Photo plan… you need to manually copy and transfer.. or you can search google for “Use Google Photos to Transfer Photos from your iPhone”, you can learn from there.
  7. You need to redownload all your apps.
  8. Yes you can.
  9. Google has a paid plan for Google One.

Thanks neikees, that’s answered a lot of my questions 👍 I’ve been using iphones since the iphone 5 so a fair few years!

Can you download ringtones from places like Zedge? (i’ve got a lot i’d like to keep)

I’ve found plenty of cases online so that’s not a problem.

Thanks man 👍

So android has become a great place where you can do almost anything you want, but I personally do not download any ringtones, because what we have from the nothing company is really cool and unlike anything else!

To summarise awnsers: you can do anything on android. It just takes more time to set up. But changing background pictures and things like that are things that were always available on android, and not just that, you have much more options of editing things as background, contacts, etc… So it depends on you.

You can either stick to apple, which doesn’t offer anything new or doesn’t let you do as much as a nothing phone, but it’s easy and fast to set up, or you can buy the nothing phone 2a plus, which would allow you to do anything, and it’s a generally far better phone, itll maybe just take a little more time to set up.

The good thing is, nothing contains chatgpt pre installed. Log into it, and ask it anything you’d like to do. It will help you with it all, it knows everything, so you just have to ask anything you wish to do, any chatgpt will write you a step by step guid to exactly do as you pleased. Seriously, you’ll be able to do everything you can do on your iPhone and more, so don’t worry about being limited from the iPhone, you’re limited on your iPhone compared to Nothing phones.

To add on to this, if you have photos backup on iCloud and you also have premium google photos account, Apple allows you to transfer all the photos from icloud to google photo, in a easy way.

Choose Nothing Phone 2 instead of 2a. You’ll feel the performance downgrade if you choose 2a when coming from iPhones.

Why should I use nothing as an app developer?

      Hi Everyone,

I wanted to share my experience with you all. For the past 12 years, since my college days, I have been an iPhone user, starting with the iPhone 5s in Gold and upgrading all the way to the iPhone 15 Pro Max. I was also a huge fan of OnePlus until they transitioned to ColorOS (if you’re a tech enthusiast, you’ll know what I mean).

Recently, I decided to try the Nothing Phone (2a), and I must say, the experience has been incredible! I’ve compared the iPhone 15 Pro Max with the Nothing Phone (2a), and I was amazed at the seamless performance of the latter. It offers a smooth operating system, a clean user experience with no ads or unnecessary apps, and a great display.

It has been six months since I switched from the iPhone to the Nothing Phone (2a), and I absolutely love it. What an amazing phone. 😎
