PELASE READ. I have explained why I went with what I did and I think it’s worth reading! If you do I really appreciate your time 🩷
Okay, so. I will explain everything in detail here. I have marked everything with numbers and given a brief idea in the image itself with important references on the side.
1. Circular rings but emiting from the left camera. Them coming from centre also works but I specially like the idea of each camera module having their own role in design. This one produces the rings while the other, well I will explain it now.
2. Lines that connect the circular parts of the design tangentially. They give them a sort of connection, a purpose in the bigger design. Tangents are also cool in general.
3. Parallel lines. These cover the left part of the phone. They keep the design simple to understand and easy to look at. They’re predictable.
4. The Main Line. This is important. This line goes tangentially to the NFC coil and just touches the little pill under the right camera. It divides the phone’s back into two parts, the left and the right. The left is simple, clean parallel lines. The right side however is where the fun begins.
5. The right side. This is my personal touch. Till now, I’ve not really added anything that tells something Nothing already hasn’t told. But the right side is a thing that hasn’t been done yet.
If you’ve seen the ads, you know Nothing focuses heavily on the animals. The birds of the Phone 1, the Octopus of the 2, the beetles, etc. But they’ve only been limited to the ads and I think that’s wasted opportunity. These animals are beautiful, their biology so complex, their design so beautifully crafted over millions of years. So, the right side of the line will show off them.
What I mean is, the right side will have a texture inspired by the animals, maybe one we’ve seen before or maybe a new one. This breaks the expected geometry, perfected design that we’ve come to learn.
On the right, I have some ideas. All references cause I couldn’t draw them. Like the pretty microscopic design of a bird’s feather or the colour pigment bearing cells of an octopus that helps it camouflage, maybe the random texture of a beetle’s shell or the amazing design of an insects wing. We could even have a new animal’s design be broken down and simplified into a texture. I wanted my design to hold meaning rather than just looking cool and I hope this idea works!
Overall, I tried to stay simplistic with my design cause I feel completely altering would be too much pain lol but I do love the idea of adding some touches of mine.
As for the ribbon, I’m thinking of keeping it very plain, maybe even lowering down the texture so it balances out all the crazy.
I also want to replace the red square with a translucent square block, imagine like a lightly matted blue physical square in there that catches light very nicely. I think that would be a beautiful touch.
As for the back, I’m thinking clear is the way to go tho light gradient might work too.
I hope I’m getting my point across with my design, I spent a lot of time crafting it.
Thankyou for reading! 😃
The design is open to modifications, nothing really is final.
Thankyou for reading my massive text wall. <3
