Olá community!
My idea is to share a little of the process with you all. I though to make some videos for each update, but I’m not that good and comfortable, so I’ll let you with an audio introduction.
Well, this is the first update on the process I’m working on for the community CMF challenge. The idea is to bring the community as close as possible to the concept I’ll be developing. I want us to share ideas, comments, feedback, and other concepts as well. After all, this challenge is from and for the community, so I guess we need to work together. 😅
Since I’m working on this project once a week, the design process needs to be considerably quicker. In a normal process, we easily apply dozens of understand tools, clustering, and conceptualization, often with several days for each of the tools and stages. For example, where I work, there are projects that last many months just in the industrial design stage.
Here things will be faster, and I’d like to share with you a bit of this first day of research. To begin, I’m organizing everything into three stages and deliveries, with the first being the understand phase, the second being ideation, and the third being finalization, construction, and checking the feasibility of the concept (which doesn’t even exist at the moment 🙃).
Below is a sample of how I’m currently organizing myself:
First, when deciding to try and develop a concept for the community project, many ideas came to mind on how to proceed… Even though I knew it was ideal to start with the understanding phase, I organized all the ideas into a list so I wouldn’t forget them when it comes to the ideation phase.
After that, I made some To-Do notes and divided them into actions, such as rereading all the supporting text and presentation of the challenge, noting down everything, and researching more about it. In the meantime, several questions appeared, and I have to thank the community and the FAQ for helping me with that.
Here’s the @Natalie ✨’s post that helped me a lot, because there were a lot of community replies: https://nothing.community/d/6759-introducing-the-community-edition-project/25

After obtaining answers to some questions, I wanted to understand better the product, what other people on YouTube were saying about it, and also Nothing’s own portfolio to gain a wider scenario. The introduction video of the challenge provided valuable insights and helped to better understand what to expect from a concept of the 2a.
The research phase is not yet complete because I need to cluster the findings and compile into key insights to guide me further in the ideation phase. In the next update, I believe I will have completed this part.
Lastly, I questioned myself quite a bit about the necessity of presenting a 3D model. We know that the challenge itself doesn’t restrict submissions to specific formats. It’s clear that it could be a sketch, an image made in Photoshop or Illustrator, 3D is an option, animation, or even just text… Anything is valid! But I noticed that @Derren shared a 3D model of the 2a that he found in GLB format (Please check it, it may help you).
Here’s Derren’s post (Tks again Derren!): https://nothing.community/d/7224-phone-2a-3d-model-glb
It turns out I couldn’t open the file in GLB format, so I decided to start modeling in case I want/need to use 3D in the end. Even though I couldn’t open it in the program I use for 3D modeling, I managed to open it in the Windows viewer, and along with the outline images provided by the challenge, I was able to start the 3D modeling process.
In the next update, I’ll have finished the modeling, and I’ll share it with the community to provide some assistance regarding the 3D aspect. Perhaps I wasn’t the only one who had trouble with GLB. In a few days, I’ll return with the file and more updates about the process.
Please let me know what you think, what you would like to see on the 2a community challenge and lets exchange some ideas. Take care you all.
ps. I don’t wanna to bother, but if I would love to a Mod make the images a little bigger. Sorry and tks guys.
