Hey everyone!

It’s my pleasure to introduce you all to @Mattia ☀️, the newest member of the Community Team. As you know @Natalie ✨ and I so well already, we thought it would be fun to share a quick Q&A with Mattia to help you get to know him a little better:

Rob: Mattia, welcome, thanks for taking the time to sit down for a quick intro!

Mattia: Hey everyone, I’m Mattia. Really excited to be joining the team.

Rob: I know our community is going to be excited to get to know you over the coming months, so would you like to share a bit about yourself and your background?

Mattia: Yes, my background spans across product marketing and product management, with a particular focus on customers and insights. Throughout my career, I’ve worked very closely with customers and communities to make our people’s voice louder within the company. I’ve also always worked in tech, Amazon, Cowboy and Farfetch to name a few, so Nothing is an extremely exciting step.

Rob: Sounds like you have some solid experience to help us elevate community here at Nothing.
What excites you about joining the company and, in particular the community team?

Mattia: I’ve always been a fan of Nothing, since the launch of the first Ear model. When I first learned about the company, I felt it was a breath of fresh air in an industry that has become too iterative. So, it’s quite exciting to see how we are generating shockwaves within the industry, and rewriting the rules of the game. I’m also amazed by the central role of the community in Nothing’s day to day operations. No matter if you look at it from the outside or the inside, you can tell this is not a marketing gimmick, there’s a real and tangible commitment to build hand in hand with the community. You are doing a great job in nurturing an extremely talented community, and people are responding greatly to all the initiatives you are running across tech, design, photography, and more. I’m so much looking forward to working with everybody and making this amazing community even more central to the future of Nothing.

Rob: Bonus question, you know how Pokémon are a big part of our culture here. Which is your favourite?

Mattia: I’m a first generation guy, very old. I was particularly fond of Mew, extremely damaging but with a very gentle soul. I think I also need to give some credit to Psyduck, it’s not a particularly useful Pokémon in fight but who doesn’t love it?

Rob: Interesting answer… I’m proud of you for sticking with first generation!

      adbo Thanks for the warm welcome Adam! I am really excited to witness how Community Edition is shaping up. It’s a project that has never been trialed before in the industry, and given the amazing work we are seeing from the talent in our Community, I’m looking forward to support the team in making it a great success! I’m also looking forward to meeting and interacting with as many people as possible, and amplify your voice within the business.

        I wanted to ask, what is your favourite thing about working with the community that’s kept you in this field, and if you had to pick one what is your favourite sort of tech?

          ‏‏‎Chris‏‏‎ Hey Chris, I’m glad you are part of the first gen club 😂
          The best projects I’ve ran in my career originated from a community impulse, either from existing customers or brand fans in general. I believe nurturing, and working with, your biggest advocates is a fundamental trait of any successful company. As I mentioned in my chat with Rob, I believe that at Nothing this concept is taken to a completely new level, so it’s all new stimuli and motivations!

          My favourite sort of tech, tough question. I’ve always been a robotics fan (I might be biased by the robot wars of the late 90s 😅). Jokes aside, I’m very curious to see in which directions the industry will progress, both for domestic use and transport. It’s a potentially big revolution to how we live our day-to-day lives and move around.

              The community driven aspect is definitely what makes Nothing stand out above so many others, and is one of the main reasons myself and many others are proud to be here.

              I imagine this also presents its own challenges, since the community offer so many unique suggestions, ideas, and are very vocal with their feedback, more so than a lot of other communities. Can you offer any insights into these challenges, the responsibilities you will inherit, and how you plan to engage with and involve the community going forward?

              A great example is the community edition project which you’ve mentioned. This is community inclusion like i’ve never seen before, and i’m very excited to see the outcome.

                    Welcome Mattia 👋 Really happy to see the Community team growing and gaining your invaluable expertise! Sounds like you have a great background and will bring a lot to the exciting table. Like others have mentioned, I’m also very pleased to hear you’re a first gen Poke guy.

                    I’m curious to hear what your thoughts are for how the community could shape up within the next few years, what success looks like and how we (as members) can continue to contribute to the success of Nothing’s community.

                      Derren Hey Derren, let me start by acknowledging that I’m loving the mass support for first gen 😂

                      You raise a very good point. A challenge for our team will be around how to improve the way in which we collect and aggregate feedback to make it digestible and usable for our teams, while not diluting the uniqueness of each contribution. This really depends on the topic and initiative we are driving. For Community Edition we look for distinctive ideas, while when following an organic conversation about new product launches, we might be better looking for patterns. It’s always a fine balance, and something that in my experience you develop over time by keeping a constant stream of communication with the Community. Rob and Natalie have been doing an amazing job already, we will spend some time in the coming weeks looking at ways to further scale this work and understanding how we can apply some useful frameworks to our community. While I think there are some standard processes, each Community is unique in its own way and it takes some time to tune. Hope this at least partially replies to your question, we can further chat through some of these in the future if you are interested 😉

                        Kastello Thank you! I’m already enjoying it quite a lot!! Favorite thing in my free time is playing tennis at the moment, I have developed a bit of an obsession. I used to be all about climbing but I’ve slowed down lately, life’s busy and manage to do one thing at a time 😂

                          Louis ☕️ Thanks Louis, I really appreciate the warm welcome.
                          As Carl outlined in our Community vision, we are increasingly blurring the lines between community and company, to the point that we will erase them. For the limited time I’ve been around, I had the pleasure to witness the community’s enthusiasm and determination in supporting Nothing’s mission. I believe keeping this enthusiasm alive is a fundamental underlying factor to the success of this project. Rob, Natalie and I will also be looking at more ways in which we can further involve the members of the community in our day to day operations. Community Edition is already a significant commitment, and a loud statement of intent to build the future of the business hand in hand with the talented members of our community. We are learning a lot from this initiative and we will be looking at additional, structured programs, that will allow all our community members to contribute, share ideas and help us bringing Nothing products to an ever growing audience.

                          Coffee is a hotly debated topic. I’m an Italian living in London for quite a bit of time. I predominantly drink espresso, better if it’s from my own moka… 😜
