    Review of Nothing Ear - the return of the winning formula

    After 2 iterations, we’re getting a third iteration simply called ‘Nothing Ear’. While the first step from Ear (1) to Ear (2) was major, this time it’s all about improving a product that was already pretty perfect thanks to a few welcome additions and improvements.

    As an (insider), I was able to get my hands on a prototype 2 months ago and after a few updates based on our feedback it’s time to deliver my opinion on this product.

    Sound quality:

    On this side, not much to say, you get a very similar sound to what you were getting with Ear (2) with a welcome improvement in bass, particularly thanks to a new feature called ‘Bass Enhance’ which really helps in the overall listening quality.

    While the default equalizer option was good to me, you can still make a choice between a few presets like on previous iteration and use Custom or Advanced EQ for a more personal sound based on your own preference.

    On the codec side, Ear now supports LDAC which is available on a lot more phones than LHDC which is also available on these new buds, more choice for Hi-Res music enthusiast!

    ANC:

    This is probably the most noticeable improvement on this pair, as transparency is much better, which was a big problem on the ear (2), and the reduction is also much more efficient and effective in everyday scenarios such as in windy conditions or near a road, although you’ll need to choose your eartip size carefully to get the best experience.

    Battery life:

    One of the issue with Ear (2) was battery life, this is also a significant point of improvement here, on a test scenario of continued play on Spotify with Dual Connection/ ANC on High settings/LDAC connection and Bass Boost enabled at a volume of 50-70%, battery kept going for 3h40 from 100% to 0%, charge in the case is quite fast and you’ll get back for another long music session in no-time!

    Features:

    Dual connection was introduced on Ear (2) and while it was a nice new feature, there was some sort of lag on the switch between 2 devices, in this new pair, that lag is gone in most scenario, pause your music on your phone and you can directly play that video on your PC, this is a significant quality of life improvement and a nice one!

    Another small change is that you now only need a single bud in the case to get the battery level of it when it needed to drop the 2 buds in the case previously, all on small improvement to build a better product!

    Conclusion:

    Over this testing period, I was able to get my hands on a product which was already familiar but improved in many ways, while it’s really similar to Ear (2), it’s a welcome upgrade for everyone, especially Ear (1) users who still haven’t made the jump to a new pair yet.

    My honest review of the Nothing Ear - the trustworthy successor to ear (2)

    I’m still a bit confused about why we lost the number (3) there. But hey, we are here for a audio review, so let’s dive into it !

    I had the pleasure to test Ear as an insider. I made it my primary ear buds for the past 2 months, and oh boy I listened to hours and hours a music / content.

    Sound :

    Sound wise, there is nothing “exciting” to say if you keep the default profile. Sound is a bit clearer in some frequencies, but nothing incredible compared to ear (2).
    “Bass enhance” however is just INCREDIBLE. I never thought you could get this much bass out of an ear buds. For me that listen a lot of House music. It has been such a great feature, I simply love it !!

    EQ is still the same experience as every other Nothing audio product, the Nothing X app makes it so easy to tune everything, always a joy to use.

    ANC:

    The noise reduction is much more powerful than ear (2) !! For me that use transportation every day, it is something that really matter ! Kudos to the team by the way that listened my feedbacks on ANC and tuned it perfectly along with the other insiders.

    Battery life:

    I didn’t do a proper measurement of the new ear but damn battery life is great !! I sometimes even forget to charge it. Battery is king on those earbuds, I feel like it nearly doubled the battery life compared to ear (2).

    Other :

    Dual connection is still there, which is just perfect for people working on the computer like me. Always having the earbuds connected to my phone 2 and to my computer is so great !

    Conclusion:

    I already have ear (2) but I think I’ll have to upgrade to ear… Bass boost and ANC are juste SOOO GOOD on this device.
    At this price point, it’s a no-brainer for me.

    Nothing Ear is a true example of how Nothing has matured 🤩

    I’ve been lucky enough to have had my hands on a testing unit of Nothing Ear, which I’ve been using as my daily ear buds for over 2 months now. Previous to that, I was using Ear (2) solidly so I will be comparing against those quite a lot with my thoughts.

    For the TLDR version: Imagine Ear (2) but better in every way. In fact, Nothing Ear makes Ear (2) sound bad 😮

    Sound Quality & ANC

    Compared to Ear (2), Nothing Ear features a welcome improvement in the high, mids and notably the deeper tones, thanks to a new Bass Enhance feature which combined with More Bass on the equaliser, creates an experience any bass head will thoroughly enjoy. Bass Enhance won’t be for everyone, but there are 5 settings when you have it on so you can also personalise this to your own listening standards. Taking advantage of the EQ settings, you can still adjust the sound to your liking and much like other Nothing X features, you have a lot of personalisation to play with. Those who are focussed on codecs will also notice Nothing Ear now supports LDAC, for those with Hi-Res requirements which is also a welcome bonus.

    You’ll notice that ANC has dramatically improved also, which was one of the first things I realised when I was listening to Nothing Ear whilst on my many daily commutes. For those that travel on the London Underground, you’ll appreciate how loud that can be. However, with Nothing Ear I found that almost all train sounds and people chatter were eliminated, whereas using my Ear (2) I would still be able to hear some of this. In my time testing Nothing Ear, I mainly had ANC switched to the High setting, as I prefer a fully immersive audio experience. The few times I did try it on Adaptive I found it also performed well.

    Battery Life

    I don’t think I’m alone in saying that Ear (2) battery seemingly dropped and with my own music usage, I could barely get 2 hours use before needing to charge them. I’m really happy to say that Nothing Ear was giving me around 3.5 hours of continuous use, with the scenario of 100% volume/ANC on High/More Bass/Bass Enhance/Personalised EQ. Charging in the case is definitely as fast as Nothing claims it is, so when you need a top up you’re sorted. The case also has a slightly bigger batter than the Ear (2) case, and in my time testing the Nothing Ear I found that I only charged the case a good handful of times.

    Summary

    The product is familiar in form factor as on the surface level, it’s Ear (2), but that’s not a bad thing.

    If you look at what Apple has done with it’s Airpods range, they are practically all the same in design and appearance. With Nothing Ear and Ear (a) acting as a relaunch of Nothing’s audio product line, it makes complete sense to keep the design similar. Where Nothing Ear elevates itself is under the skin, the subtle hardware/software changes the team has been working on improving and specifically, Nothing Ear, really demonstrates how far the team has come in it’s 3 years. If this is a sign of how Nothing’s audio line is evolving, then we’re really in for an amazing ride.

    I swore by my Ear (2) before testing Nothing Ear, now I wouldn’t even touch my Ear (2) and that’s testament to how great Nothing has made their new Ear products. If you have Ear (1) or even if you are an Ear (2) user and are looking for an upgrade, Nothing Ear is for you 🔥

    Nothing Ear - My Go-To

    Ear marks a fresh start for Nothing, with this being the third instalment in the Ear Series, it is also a return to the beginning, with new learnings and fresh revision. As an (insider) I’ve had my hands on a pair of Ear since late February and it’s been an awesome experience. This was a pre-release build with several firmware updates during this window.

    TLDR: Ear is a firm next step for the Nothing Audio experience. New features on a proven platform make for a complete package that is really awesome.

    First impressions were strong, a familiar form factor to Ear(2), it’s noticeable that Ear develops upon the foundations laid so far. The build quality of the Ear is awesome, with each element having been iterated and refined. This may prove to be subjective, but the clear elements have maintained their transparency, being far less prone to scratches that have impacted other transparent devices in the past.

    Pinch controls are here as a mainstay on the Ear series, the continued responsiveness and elegance of this movement is a delight. While this does limit the inputs on the device slightly, the trade for this solution compared to trying to get fiddly buttons or pressing buds into the ear is so worthwhile.

    Most of my time was spent using Adaptive ANC, letting the device choose the best-fitting ANC profile for my surroundings. From commuting noises to a lawnmower, the ANC has held up to the outside world, delivering strong audio quality in challenging conditions. I experienced hardly any “cabin-pressure” moments, and when I did, that was early days and firmware updates have improved the experience every time.

    As for the battery, in the time that I’ve had Ear, I’ve only had to charge them a handful of times, Nothing has got this aspect nailed, with these being my go-to pair, I’ve been so happy with the experience and not had moments where the battery has failed me.

    Along with this, Bass Boost is a new feature for Ear, offering an extra “oomph” with 5 levels of options. This is a nice choice to have and while I find it excessive at times, it can be toned down and/or switched off depending on the mood. I find it fantastic for drowning out the world and really engaging with my music, but often I have this feature switched to low, this is just my preference.

    Nothing X continues to serve as a strong platform for all of the Ear series and I’m glad this platform is growing, as the central platform for controlling Ear, firmware updates, ear tip fits and personal sound profiles can all be found here along with EQ settings to fine-tune your experience.

    From the Community Update, I’m so glad to see new and innovative features, like the integration with ChatGPT (which I haven’t had a chance to experience yet). But this shows that Nothing continues to experiment and deliver on something new, even while refining products.

    Summary - I’ve really enjoyed using Ear, this fresh start is completely justified in how Ear delivers. A rich feature set supports a great sounding bud that I’m really excited to spend more time with and see what other people’s experiences are like!

      Nothing

      At least they should make voice responses for Google assistant through ear buds which are very helpful and Circle to search as samsung does they make tech fun I mean Clowns, I thought they will add FMDN (Find My Device Network) option completely disappointed 😞

      Battery life during use with ANC was my biggest problem with Ear(2). With such better battery life even with ANC on it’s almost a no-brainer to upgrade to Ear. The improved driver won’t really matter much to me as I have bad tinnitus (and old ears) but kudos to Nothing for making such a big improvement, many others will appreciate this I’m sure.

      One thing I’m noticing that is lacking in all the community reviews is feedback on call quality and mic quality.

      I use my earbuds for taking calls quite a bit. Do you have anything to note about call quality? How clear is the mic for the other side of the call?

      Nothing (Ear) - Familiar Design…Revolutionary Performance

      I, like the vast majority of my cohort from Nothing’s (insiders) programme have been testing the Nothing (Ear) - Codename “*****” for about two months now! I went from my Ear (2)s to this and WOW, the differences were there immediately.

      Alright, not from a design standpoint…which was actually a bonus! I love the refinements from Ear (1) to Ear (2), the smaller, more squared case, the rugged-ness of the whole package too! Plus, the similar design meant I could do my testing across a variety of areas in my life…so, how did they do?

      As I mention in the title, the Nothing (Ear)s sounded GREAT, as soon as the pairing process was done! I left the “Bass Boost” on for most of my testing, at around a level three, out of five. I enjoy the hit of a good bass!
      One of the first things I noticed, was that the sound of a busy street in Soho was immediately shushed…the ANC improvements are amazing. The small noise bleed I had experienced with Ear (2) was a none issue with these new buds.

      When I picked up my buds, they were tested immediately from busy street, to London Underground, to commuter train. The ANC did then and still does now, blow me away. Top marks for the improvements!

      I found that Transparency was similar to what I have experienced from my Ear (2)s, but I have never had any issues with the Transparency on that device, so I couldn’t discern any notable improvements.

      Audio that can BOOM, with or without the Bass Boost!

      The sound quality from these buds are a huge step up, coupled with the better ANC, the buds made your headspace its own sound stage. Every range from the lows, mids and highs are crisp, punchy and balanced.
      I have a select few songs that I knew I wanted to test and I found new details from each song that I played.

      Plus, the ANC and audio balancing helps out Podcasts, massively. No more do I have to replay certain clips of a podcast when on the tube, I can hear everything and I hear it in clarity!

      The Nothing (Ear) is true to its word. No numbers, no iterations now, these Ear buds are top, and it is hard to see where the improvements may come.
      With the price of £129, same as Ear (2) were at retail…it is super hard not to splash the cash on these AMAZING buds! Bravo to the team.

      One final note, huge cheer for all colours being available from launch! I always preferred my black Ear (1)s and Ear (2)s, so I am super pleased for these to be available at the start.

      As a Ear 2 user, support for the poor battery life was just lacking. How much are the improvements are hardware and how much is software. Are we (ear2 users) getting some of the improvements or are we just out of luck and in need to upgrade if we want to get a decent use time?

      I received my Ear earlier today and genuinely, what a difference from ear (2) the bass and sound quality is so much better 🔥.

      ANC is really good. There was a helicopter flying quite low nearby and could barely hear it playing no music too!

      There is little to no noise leakage which is perfect for when you want to listen to music that little extra louder 🕺🏻

      The chatgpt feature is great (once I figured it out 😆) which is an amazing move by Nothing towards the AI area of the tech industry

      Might be not much change in design but the main thing is what has been changed on the inside of them to make them sound great.

      Just need to make sure I don’t accidentally pick up ear (2) instead when going somewhere now 😂

      They sound and feel a lot more expensive than they actually are £129! Sound better than the other brands in my opinion 🤷🏻

      Finally got the Nothing Ear and so far pretty solid but there is a huge flaw.

      The ANC and Transparency mode is not right :-(

      Steps to reproduce issue

      • Put 1 bud on
      • Turn on ANC
      • Start talking and the occlusion effect is minimal - it feels more like transparency mode
      • Now whilst you still have 1 bud on, turn on transparency mode
      • The occlusion is worse than if you have ANC on. Your voice sounds super muffled

      This feels like a software fault.

      In fact the overall ANC/Transparency functionality of these buds is pretty weak in my opinion.

      It does cancel out some noise but at the expense of alot of white noise compared to the competition.

      I hope someone from Nothing reads this post and can looking this issue, and it puts a major dent into an otherwise solid product.

      Charan_DSCR If it is not there on Premium, it will come. As we saw with TrueLens® Engine, they delay an update for the spectacle of it. So maybe have some patience.

          I honestly thought they would prioritize Transparency mode over ANC mode, because ANC was already mediocre and Transparency is way below average, so transparency being the same is a deal breaker. Safety issues too tbh cus you barely hear the person talking in front of you even with transparency mode on, I’ll wait for the real Nothing Ear (3), or perhaps they would push an update

            When are the Nothing ear reviews coming out on Youtube? I see many ear(a) reviews, but not of Nothing ear’s.

              Rob ⚡️ Its baffling to me that Nothing still hasn’t added built-in Spatial Audio after three whole iterations of its audio lineup. Once you experience Spatial Audio with OnePlus/Oppo earbuds on podcasts, youtube videos, movies/shows etc there’s no going back.

                Rob ⚡️ I think Ear is a big step forward for Nothing; it’s well designed and if the reviews are anything to go by, it’s impressed a lot of people. I would add that this has symbolic significance too: Nothing is now cool. Look out Apple, there is something more stylish than you.

                I have odd shaped ears so ear buds have never sat comfortably with me. I wish Nothing would create a bone conduction headset; existing product in this area is not particularly stylish. If Nothing does that, sign me up for a pair immediately.

                  Has anyone tried the Personal Sound Profile on LDAC on the Ear? Doesn’t seem to work for me which is a shame as thought it really made them sound great. If I go back to AAC or High Quality the Sound Profile works again. Is this a limit of LDAC or something that could be fixed in the future with a firmware update.

                  They are great apart from this.

                  After using the Ear (2) for the last year and recently picking up the (Stick) so I can have different listening experiences, I was excited to buy the Ear 2024 as I had thought it would have been an update to everything I wasn’t happy with for ear (2). For the most part, I was right but there are crucial downgrades that makes this a hard recommend for upgrading. Highlights: improved sound quality, slight redesign to bud size (larger) makes these more comfortable, ANC is more consistent, battery life is longer. Negatives: BAD transparency mode, case quality decreased, bud build quality not as refined as Ear (2), case still bulky.

                  Design: Both the buds and the case look identical to Ear (2) but inherently there are differences. With the buds, the size increased slightly. While I was able to notice a big positive difference in fit, I think the .5mm difference will not be noticeable for a large crowd, with edge cases being the ones to notice it. I found my Ear (2) was just too small and wiggled around in my ear but with the 2024’s that no longer happens. I would only caution those that found Ear (2) to be too large to the point where they could only just fit in their ears to be weary of the size increase, otherwise fit should be mostly the same for those who have experienced Ear (2). The case dimensionally appears to be the exact same but it needs to be pointed out that the quality of finish is not there when comparing to Ear (2)'s case. There are a lot of rough edges on the transparent plastic, most evident is the dimple, where there is a tactile circle where the curve and flat section of the case meets. I’ve attached a photo for those curious. I wish the case was smaller but that will be saved for a future Ear model I presume. Other thing to note was there is a new seam on the bud where I didn’t find it on the Ear (2) before but this isn’t of concern, only note being the glue on my model isn’t as clean as my Ear (2).

                  Sound Quality: Perhaps the biggest surprise for me from upgrading from Ear (2). My only critique with the Ear (2) sound was that the upper mids and highs to me sounded a little digital, even with the advanced EQ. With Ear 2024, they got rid of that sound and are very pleasant sounding out of the box with the default tuning and bass boost off. They produce a good amount of detail I wasn’t expecting and sound even better with LDAC. I got into the advanced EQ and smoothed out the 7-13k range and now they sound perfect to me, by far my best sounding TWS earbuds. I usually dont turn on bass settings but I did turn on the bass boost to 3 and found it didn’t severely distort the sound so I left it on with my tuning.

                  ANC: ANC is interesting on these buds. My initial impression was that they didnt sound much better than Ear (2) but now consider it quite a noticeable difference. What makes this so much better now is the smart ANC where it measures noise passing through the ear canal and earbud and cancels that noise out as well. This is a gamechanger as in my experience, ANC buds are ineffective when your bud slightly moves and while this isn’t solved with Ear 2024, the ANC is a lot more consistent than any bud I’ve used. Apart from the more consistent sound reduction the other thing to note is that it is generally quieter, especially for objects like fans. Don’t expect total erasure of noise but rather expect a more consistent ANC on these buds.

                  Transparency: Transparency mode is AWFUL on these buds. One of the pain-points for Ear (2) was the bad transparency mode that made it hard to hear anything that wasn’t in front of you. These buds perform WORSE than Ear (2) and honestly is the worst pair of ANC buds I’ve tried (Ticpods ANC, Oneplus Buds Pro, Pixel Buds Pro, Ear (2)) with transparency mode from memory. Not only does it feel like a light ANC mode where you cannot hear your surroundings, good luck trying to talk with them on. It sounds like you are underwater with earplugs jammed into your ears and you can barely hear the person in front of you talking to you. Nothing should be embarrassed with this Transparency performance and they really need to push an update out for these buds to make it better. If you wonder why no reviewers talked about transparency mode, its because it was that bad. It makes me feel like Nothing enforced a “no talking about transparency mode in your review” message so it didn’t hurt the sales of the buds, whether that’s true or not IDK but its telling when they didn’t even advertise the feature themselves. If left unfixed, I would not recommend these buds to anyone who cares at all about transparency.

                  Battery Life: Battery life is an improvement when compared to Ear (2). I havent yet been able to kill them but based on trends it seams LDAC lasts as long as Ear (2), while AAC lasts longer. I didnt find the LDAC to be a big enough difference to sacrifice its battery life. I have yet to be in meetings with them but my battery anxiety isn’t an issue with normal usage. Interesting note, on my devices Ear (2) would only show increments of 10%, whereas Ear 2024 has increments of 5%.

                  Controls: Controls are unchanged from Ear (2), if you didnt have a problem with those you wont have a problem with these buds. I would like to be able to control all functions with 1 earbud, meaning play, pause, skip track, rewind track, volume up, volume down, ANC switch, and voice assistant. They can solve this on future buds by having a touchpad for volume (either like Ear (1) or Airpods Pro Gen 2), and keep the single squeeze, double squeeze, triple squeeze, hold, double squeeze and hold the same. To partially solve the problem on these buds, they can add a triple squeeze and hold for another control option (sqeeze>squeeze>hold).

                  Conclusion: Even with all of the positives of Ear 2024, I cannot recommend them until transparency mode is fixed. If an update is pushed out for transparency mode and it fixes the bad performance, jump on these as they will be the best allrounders for the price. Otherwise look elsewhere or wait for the next generation.

                  Edit: I got a replacement pair because of a screeching noise that developed quickly with ANC. Transparency update makes the transparency mode equal to Pixel Buds Pro based on first impressions. Good job Nothing!

                    One thing I would like to point out is the pinch gesture in the ear products. When it’s a windy day the buds switched to anc mode on its own. Must be the wind affecting the pressure sensor.

                    I would suggest nothing move the pressure sensor to the other side of the stem.

                      I would also like a better transparency mode. I don’t know if it can be improved a little with an update. I feel like there is a lack of clarity, I have the ear 2 and it gives a bit of a sensation of clogged ears.

                          I can not recommend these due to the very poor transparency mode and high level of white noise in anc mode too.

                          Feels like a backwards step from the ear 1 and ear 2.

                          This hugely hurts an otherwise solid product.

                            EAC_10 I agree, I hope the transparency mode gets attention next time, I saw someone put a review that the transparency mode was better 💀, at least DMS said the transparency mode was the same being honest unlike the some reviewers, great marketing but I’m a tad bit disappointed.

                                  Received the Ear yesterday, and after tinkering with it the entire day, I really love these.

                                  ANC:

                                  Before the Ear I had the Ear Stick for around 5 months. Before that I had a pair of AirPods 2nd Gen for around 3 years so I never had earbuds with an actual active noise cancellation feature.

                                  Because of that, I don’t have anything to compare these to but after having them on ANC high while in a car ride and at home with very loud vacuuming, it cancelled out almost all of it. And with my music playing at high volume, I pretty much did not hear anything around me. After watching a lot of reviews on these, people have said the ANC is good, and based on my testing as well, I agree.

                                  Transparency Mode:

                                  Again, don’t have any other in-ear buds to compare the Transparency Mode of each. However, I have heard a lot of complaints about the Transparency Mode and that it isn’t great. After my testing with it, I might have to agree. I don’t hear much of a difference with Transparency Mode on or off. Some sounds that are far away do get a little bit louder but that’s about it. I did see Carl’s tweet that they are working on the Transparency Mode though, so I guess it will be improved.

                                  Sound:

                                  Coming from the Ear Stick that didn’t sound that great (to be honest I preferred the AirPods over those when it came to sound) the difference is night and day. These sound amazing compared to my other pairs (which is already to be expected lol). They are very bassy (even with the bass enhance off) and I can hear a lot of detail in my music. I was making my own presets in the Advanced EQ and I feel like I made them sound slightly better.

                                  I haven’t had these long enough to talk about battery. But the lowest I’ve had them go down to so far is around 50% and that was after around 2 hours with LHDC and ANC on high.

                                  In conclusion, these are a really good pair of earbuds and I would recommend it to pretty much everyone who’s looking for good sound and ANC. This is also my first time posting a review ever on the forum so hello everyone! 👋🏼😊

                                  Guys nothing ear is still not available on Flipkart? What to do ?

                                    Firstly I’m new to nothing, been a fan for a while but never pulled the plug due to being an Apple user, but have carefully been following nothing for A while. So i decided to pull the plug and purchase Nothing Ear as it seemed the upgrades were god enough now to challenge apples AirPods Pro’s.

                                    I have the AirPod pros first gen and haven’t seen anything come close to the round package you get with AirPods.

                                    So, based on a few days of using the ear my below outcomes.

                                    Sound quality: far superior to AirPods and have missed good quality and the bass and trebles are far better.

                                    ANC: Similar to AirPod pros but would say it probably beats it basing it against the high pitch noise generated on the tubes in London, so definitely would say the Ear provides better ANC.

                                    Transparency: this is a big one for me personally, with the AirPods I think the transparency is unbeatable and was hoping nothing would be a challenger but unfortunately it’s way of the mark on this. My voice is muffled and can hear the bass of my voice when speaking which is not nice when taking calls.

                                    This definitely needs to be improved and I’m hoping a few more updates and this will hopefully get there.

                                    As I write this they have just released an improvement and does seem to be a better but still not close enough to apples transparency on the pros which is so good it makes your forget you’ve got the earbuds in which is what true transparency should be.

                                    Battery life: an easy one, as I’m on AirPod pro gen 1s this is far better and really welcomed the battery life so far!

                                    Overall: If they can master transparency with a few more updates and take away the inside muffles of hearing the bass of my voice then I’d say Ear will then be clear of AirPods Pro’s for the time being. Sound quality and battery are great and music sounds so much better!

                                    Maybe a setting to customise transparency would be welcomed

                                    Wanted to add my perspective on Transparency Mode for Ear products:

                                    I want to preface this feedback by sharing my love for Nothing! You all make awesome products and I’m just so grateful you guys push boundaries and against the norm!

                                    That being said, let’s get into it:

                                    I still stand by Ear (1) having the superior Transparency Mode to date; wide soundstage, perfect clarity, absolutely felt like I wasn’t wearing earbuds at all.

                                    When I purchased Ear (2), I found that Transparency Mode was given “less priority” over the other welcome improvements. I found it to be a noticeable downgrade vs Ear (1), and was JUST enough clarity for me to keep the product, but barely. I wish I knew this before purchasing, but ultimately I kept them. The other improvements outweighed returning them.

                                    When I purchased Ear (2024), Transparency Mode was shockingly bad. I thought maybe I had an issue; no problem! I’ll reset them and try again, tech isn’t easy!

                                    Still extremely muffled and a huge downgrade from Ear (2), which was a downgrade from Ear (1). I felt really let down by this. I was really excited to support Nothing again, and I was optimistic that the successor to Ear (2) would bring Transparency Mode back to the level Ear (1) achieved as a first-gen product.

                                    As of today, a new firmware update is available, which addresses a variety of feedback, most importantly: Transparency Mode.

                                    My honest impressions of this update are that it’s a small step in the right direction, but still work to be done.

                                    It’s a noticeable “difference” in terms of EQ: more of a focus on natural mids than treble, less bass, which is objectively better, but this can also be subjective depending on the user. The soundstage still doesn’t let anywhere near the same range/amount of noise in as Ear (1) by a large margin, I still feel like I’m definitely wearing earbuds. It is closer to the level of Ear (2), but there’s still a gap in between.

                                    For a newer product, I just don’t think there should be downgrade in any area of development.

                                    I just wish more than anything that Transparency Mode matched the quality of Ear (1). I’m not sure if there were any hardware or software compromises made for Ear (2) or Ear (2024), I understand there are sometimes trade offs, but I just wish this were the case. These products are SO close to being incredible.

                                    This feedback isn’t meant to undermine every other AWESOME thing these products do! I just want to shed light on a feature I value, others value, and a feature that needs more attention for these products to be truly considered “AirPods Killers” as such.

                                    For now, I’m going to hold onto Ear (2024), but I’m afraid they will return to Nothing if there isn’t any indication of acknowledgement of this feedback or further improvement.

                                    I want to thank Nothing again for existing in the first place; you’re genuinely one of my favorite companies, full stop. You guys saw the landscape, knew what to do, and you’re doing it.

                                    I also want to personally thank Rob for everything he does here, it doesn’t go unnoticed, the community engagement is great!

                                    Finally, I want to thank Carl for personally posting about Transparency Mode improvements, as well as feedback in general, on X. That was amazing to see a CEO address an arguably small gripe that users are having. Thank you Carl!

                                    I’m happy to give any additional feedback or info if necessary, I want to make sure I provide value more than just criticism 🙂

                                      What can I say, I’m blown away. I love my Ear and I’ve been putting it through its paces at least with what I use earbuds for. I know that these reviews can be subjective so my experience may differ from someone else’s but, here goes:

                                      Pros:

                                      1. Sound quality for music is definitely amazing. The detail and clarity of the music I’m listening to is just astounding. I’m enjoying really listening to music again.
                                      2. The sizing of the buds are just right - not too big or small. And the weight is truly negligible.
                                      3. Aesthetically pleasing to look at. I find myself sometimes just looking at the closed case from top to bottom.
                                      4. Wireless charging case comes in handy - no more cords.

                                      Cons:

                                      1. I use this a lot for work and when I take calls. The voice or sounds from a call or a meeting is very clear - no issues there. The issue is “Transparency” mode seems to not be very transparent at all. My voice seems muffled when it’s my turn to speak and it throws me off every so often.
                                      2. The connection tone when you first put in the earbuds sound like something went wrong or something lost power - I don’t know. Just nit-picking I guess.

                                      Overall, great product especially at that price point. Great job team Nothing!

                                        I just received my ears and the first thing I tried was the transparency mode, I honestly thought it was bad, although a firmware update immediately appeared. It improved but it still gives me the feeling of a lack of volume so to speak, I hope it improves a little more with another update. I’ll try these days to see how they work.
