Olá community!!
Here is the final update of the design process to the community challenge 2a. It’s been a great little journey and I hope that you like this final episode.
Shoutout to the final presentation. If you like my idea please feel free to vote for it. I appreciate it. 👇

In the last update, I shared a little about the “development” phase of the concept. The one I had to 3D model the 2a (which I shared with you and hope that someone used it😅), find the last inspirations and also collect a little feedback from my close friends. and oh I introduced to you Pingo my new little frog friend.

Well, after making the one version of the 3D, I jumped to the Keyshot to render a clay/white version of the 2a to the if my 3D was ok. I went back again and again, trying to improve the 3D, it was a crazy day, but I had fun.
At this moment I was like, “Okay I have a 3D model, but I don’t have a design yet”. So I had a bunch of ideas, a pretty hires image of the 2a, a 2d JPG, a Gbl file open on a visualizer, teardown images, a good wallpaper, and a frog. What do you do when you have all but at the same time nothing to show?!
I started working with the colors.
I tried a little and the result was a bit too strong so I had to tone down to achieve a more acceptable color to the general public (That’s because I was thinking of delivering just one color variant, understand the investment cost of this model).
I hadn’t time to set up the Keyshot to make a great image, so I had to rely on Photoshop to help me with the time issue.
These were the color variants, some of just a little tweak:
After a lot of tentative, I was secure enough to use Illustrator to make the final assets to use on PS. I went back to the 3D model, and exported the outlines… There were a lot of details. It was all about layers.
And after this, here is one of the PS files.
The rest is the story… You can read below the full idea and also vote if you like:

1 - Translucent dot pattern on the top. The part that will be always visible when the user is holding the phone. A unique design needs to be shown.
2 - Why use only one shade of green when you can have a pretty color palette?
3 - Offset to reveal the Glyph and not change the color of the light.
4 - Here’s a little C of Cool, challenge, communication, clarity, creativity, and community.
5 - A little color makes the phone more aesthetic, and cool and also communicates the physical interaction parts (Side buttons).
6 - See a little of something new '‘New hints do discover’' (translucent parts).
7 - Nothing.dot/?: A future community challenge. Think like a puzzle and riddles to achieve something together with the community.
8 - How many stars are missing on (2a) galaxy?
One fact, it is a huge challenge to design a concept that may will represent an entire community. The first idea was to share the design process with the community, and also share it with my close friends to collect collective thoughts about the ideas I was working on.
The main idea of this concept is to encourage the community culture by hiding a secret challenge with different layers of riddles and puzzles that invite the community to join one last time to celebrate this phone just after the launch. The idea is to find the little frog and discover the reward that he hides with him.
I present to you the Phrynomedusa appendiculata (let’s call it Pingo). This Brazilian little guy was considered to be extinct since 1970, but in 2022 researchers from USP found one living like ”nothing” was happening. This little one is one of my inspirations and the color of this concept was inspired by it.
Feasibility
Just one phone color variant to achieve a cost-efficient design solution.
No new textures (changes on molds) were made. The texture is a vital part of the 2a phone, it’s part of the DNA and the way that invites the light to interact with the surface makes it magical.
All the main modifications is throughout graphics (In-mold labeling to avoid problems in achieving the print pattern)
The modifications:
C: New color inspired by Pingo, our new frog friend.
M: All the same materials remain on this concept.
Finishing: Only two parts of the phone are meant to change the material to a translucent frost one.
The 3D file used to make these images was made using some image references. No physical part of the final product. This is to prevent any further investments in production.
