I am confused, phosphorescent materials can’t last for hours but for minutes, on the other hand tritium can last hours in the watch industry but isn’t that type of material little bit radioactive?
Phosphorescent materials charge from particle of the light, when you put them in the dark room they last only couple minutes, so after few minutes phone will be looks the same.
Anyway I like the idea, but maybe they think different material
And if it’s tritium material like is used for watches Rolex, Omega, etc, it’s like 30usd per gram, there is reason why it’s always on small parts of the watch and not on bigger things.
Is it actually good idea to have phone which constantly glow? I mean you go to opera and you got phone which glow on green, you go sleep or walking in night with green glowing phone? At least phosphorescent materials last just minutes.
I would like to preffer idea, which design is not only recognized in the night.
- The phone is in the pocket most of the day so this phosphorescent material will never charge properly to glow in the dark
- Phone is on the table the whole day it will charge, but as sun will go down phone will be slowly start glowing during the evening but it will not have material energy to glow in the night.
- In the best case phone phosphorescent material will charge but it will last couple minutes
- If you use premium phosphorescent materials from watch industry tritium, it’s radioactive, and also 30usd per gram. This material can last hours.
I have seen like 10 really good ideas which would be absolutely phenomenal but I am not 100 percent sure, but it’s just my opinion.
But wish you all the best and luck, I actually love how phone looks in that mint green color. I would prefer just that mint color itself, very organic natural earthy color.

Congrats to the winners!
Other than that, wow, so the hundreds of design approaches now result in … phosphorescent “paint”. How underwhelming.
Not a fan of this kind of material but bravo to the winners and Congratulations from the heart. M sure you guys will rock with the P2a CE and it will be greatly accepted nonetheless. Awesome work!
Congratulations to the winners
Rob Will we be able to see how many votes the other designs got?

NoneNone_5BV92bp3L2 you must show it on purpose then like mr. Doodle edition phone, I hope they will consider to use tritium like you said. If it just tiny line and screw, it will be pleasure to have back cover lit all night long
Congrats!! Awaiting to see It come to life!
Congratulations guys! Looks super fun!
Congratulations… Astrid and Kenta..

blank_de_java the problem with basic phosphorescent material is, it’s glowing all the time, so it not store energy, tritium is radioactive so it’s glowing on different basics, but this material is super expensive and company have to got license to use this material all watch makers have to got license for this and also if your phone break, you can lick material probably nothing gonna happen, but I think even if someone gonna repair it, with tritium you have to got like regulations working with this materials, repairman etc.
Have you ever got phosphorescent toy? Was it glowing all night long? Probably not, and how thick was that toy? Probably couple centimeters so it got plenty material, imagine this material thin in back case. The whole idea about led on the phone is to got option control it, why you gonna put something on the phone what you can’t control?
I got toy on my desk which is phosphorescent, and no way that toy is glowing like on that picture or last hours, it’s on the desk but as sun goes down this thing is not even visible in the night, but when I light up my light wait like 30 minutes it will charge, turn light off and It will die in 30 minutes maybe 1 hour.
Congrats Astrid and Kenta! Definitely a unique design, looking forward to seeing this product come to life and to see the community’s creations in the next design stages
