In his iPhone 15 announcement reaction, Carl Pei revealed why he dislikes smartwatches and doesn’t use them himself. To him, he doesn’t like the idea of having even more notifications and being even more connected all the time since the ethos of Nothing and Nothing OS is to give control back to the users and make them interact with their devices more purposefully again.

However, Carl is wrong about that. Despite brands’ marketing claims, smartwatches do the opposite of what he is describing: Smartwatches don’t give you more notfications - they show you the same notifications as before. Instead, they enable you to check on the notifications with less committment, i.e. without having to take out your phone.

90% of the time, notifications are unimportant enough that you can just save them for later or ignore them altogether - but when you have already taken out your phone to view them, you are highly likely to deal with them right away. And once you have done that, you are likely to visit other apps and check up on more things while you’re at it with your phone anyway.

Viewing the notifications on the small smartwatch screen, makes you aware of how unimportant most notifications are and make you take out your phone less often. Thus, they fit perfectly with the Nothing OS mindset.
And, needless to say, creating an own smartwatch, would allow Nothing to design a smartwatch that is even more geared towards that mindset.

I know, the idea of a Nothing smartwatch is nothing new but I found it topical again since Carl’s latest statements and I did not see people get in depth on that conceptual viewpoint of what a smartwatch is in this forum here yet.

I wild personally love to see a Nothing branded smart watch as soon as possible. The Nothing team has a great choice to make there own ecosystem of devices, and i wold love to be a part of it. But the CMF watch just doesn’t cut it with the design and limited options. I bet the Nothing team has a smart watch in mind, but sadly it doesn’t seem like it’s gonna come out any time soon, since the CMF watch has been released such a short time ago.

Tldr. Nothing. Please make a smart watch as soon as possible.

    Are there any plans for Nothing to make a smart watch? I have already fallen in love with Nothing Tech in the short time I’ve had their products. I wanna a whole line of Nothing tech. I know they are still relatively new and are still trying to make their mark but I really do hope them make a smart watch.

    Currently there is the CMF Watch, can’t say I’ve heard anything of Nothing creating a Nothing Watch (1) or whatever the naming scheme would be

      I know that Carl is not much of a smart watch user, however seeing budget smartwatch under CMF, does make me (probably others too) excited to see some watches with wear OS or something like that, in the semi premium section of smart watches, I think it will be a good add on to the ecosystem.

Basically WearOS like the galaxy watch ⅘, maybe even a watch and earbuds only (so you don’t need your phone when you are going for a run), at least a full day of battery, and a sleek design (picture below). That’s what I wold like to see 😁

              I would prefer to wait and get a proper branded Nothing Watch than the CMF one

              Nothing watch with glyph interface on the edges of the display divided in three segments equally which can be customised to show different notifications from different devices or apps

              The strap, back and the sides of the watch is partially transparent and also the UI of the watch is designed on the basis of it’s UI in the nothing phones

              Second type of watch is not having glyph interface but having projection of the notification pattern which can be customised as per need of the user from the left side of the portion of watch the light will come on the back side of the palm under finger and over the wrist in a tiny area it will show a specific pattern of projection of light for particular notification.

              In general both watches are smart and having design of nothing minimalism with partially transparent strap, back and sides of the watch.

              Watch will come in grey colour for professionals and in black for regular users and also a creamy white colour for the people preferring a lighter tone.
