JochieSantiago if you look historically, prices always fall with NTL, it’s just that 20% is larger on a £800 phone, down to £640. I think in Western Europe, it isn’t quite inexpensive compared to £1000 for a Pixel or an IPhone. And the specs justify the cost.
They don’t need to sell so many (250k over the lifetime of the phone to recover all R&D costs … no one believes that’s at initial RRP). The 3a_lite has almost no R&D costs as it’s a CMF2P and at £249 it will have quite a large profit margin. In addition, they’re probably making £10-20/handset with preinstalled apps and bloatware.
At that PP, it looks great/modern and will set tons in Europe for Xmas. Much more than the CMF2P which does NOT look premium at all. (I like it but the average buyer won’t.
Edit: it also dates the 3a/pro extensively, and will pull buyer to it by looking like a £799 RRP phone at £249. It’s a very smart move by NTL.
I think NTL is playing their cards perfectly.
