After reading that article, I went in and cleared data/cache from some Google services, and the “Temporary system files” figure dropped significantly — from over 42 GB down to around 19 GB. So a big part of what I was blaming on the system was tied to Google services piling up, exactly like the article described.

Which makes me wonder though — is this actually a Google-services issue, or something about how Android manages that cache? What makes me ask is that this never used to happen before; my storage behaved normally for a long time, and only recently did these files start ballooning to 40+ GB until I manually cleared them. So something clearly changed at some point. Do you know what usually causes them to suddenly start growing like that? Genuinely curious, since you clearly know this area well.

Either way, credit where it’s due — that link solved something that had been bugging me for a while. Appreciate you sharing it instead of just arguing. 👍

UpawNothing I have the same apps, but the Pixel has many built‑in AI features, while the Phone (2) was completely lacking AI… maybe that’s the reason?… Available space for AI? 🤔

Sirius_EU Based on the article I linked to you maybe right however some NP2 users have posted about large temporary storage folders. Bit of a mystery that probably only Google could explain.

anjanyadavby They have to give np2 users nos5.0 because before that the os wasn’t so polished and nice and we didn’t have much glyph support and we had to rely on paid third party apps and that’s not fair at all.

Np2 hardware is capable of nos5.0 but unfortunately np1 isn’t.

Customizing before nos 5.0 was a horror movie (terrible) because we had few color options and stuff.

I hope they do this for the community because by not doing this I specially think that they don’t give a damn about their customers.

If they don’t do this I might turn into lineage os because they do give a damn and I hate to say it but I think I’m not going to buy another np.

We were the 1st people to buy a Nothing device at upper mid premium segment then with all it its risk. We have been probably the biggest endorsers if the brand too.

Had there been multiple flagship devices after Nothing Phone 2, then I would still understand. But this is legit the 2nd last Flagship phone that nothing had before Nothing Phone 3.

A Small Request from the Nothing Phone (2) Community ❤️

Dear Nothing Team,

I’ve been using the Nothing Phone (2), and honestly, this phone has been one of the most enjoyable smartphones I’ve ever used. The design, Nothing OS, Glyph interface, and the overall experience are what made me choose Nothing in the first place.

That’s why it feels genuinely sad to know that major OS updates for the Phone (2) have now come to an end.

I completely understand that every device eventually reaches the end of its official update cycle. But I would like to make a humble request on behalf of many Phone (2) users:

Please consider giving the Nothing Phone (2) one more major OS update. 🙏

The hardware of the Phone (2) is still more than capable of providing a great experience. Many of us are still very happy with the device and have no reason to replace it simply because software support has ended.

One additional major update would mean a lot to existing users. More importantly, it would show that Nothing values the people who supported the brand from its earlier days.

We chose Nothing because it felt different from other smartphone companies — more community-driven, more transparent, and more willing to listen to its users.

So, Nothing Team, please hear this small request from your Phone (2) community:

Give the Nothing Phone (2) one more OS update. ❤️

It may be just one more update from your side, but for many loyal users, it would mean much more than that.

We, the Nothing Phone (2) community, have been asking for one more major OS update with genuine hope and respect.

But what feels disappointing is the silence.

We understand that software support has its planned limits, and we also understand that developing a major OS update requires time and resources. But when so many loyal Phone (2) users come together and repeatedly express the same request, the least we hope for is to be heard and acknowledged.

Is it really too much to ask for one more major update for a phone that is still powerful, capable, and loved by its users?

We are not asking for something unreasonable. We are simply asking Nothing to reconsider the decision and give the Phone (2) community one final major OS update.

Please don’t let our requests disappear into silence.

We chose Nothing because we believed this was a company that listens to its community and values the people who supported it from the beginning.

Now, we’re simply asking:

NOT being mean or disrespectful here, but these posts are getting a little old….

The Nothing Phone 2 will no longer get major releases. You will only receive security patches.

You can beg, kick, scream, plead, and argue your case as much as you like. It sucks, but Nothing is a business and they have to move forward. When you bought the device you knew its lifespan for updates as it was clearly stated.

There are no ifs, ands, buts, no excuses.

I can answer all of your questions as a customer and a user:

Do you hear us, Nothing? - Yup, answer is still no.
Will you consider us? - Nope. We already had a roadmap in place for the Nothing Phone 2 and are moving beyond that.
Will you give the Phone (2) one more chance? - See Above Response.
Even a simple response from the Nothing team would mean a lot to us. - They are busy completing the update for eligible phones. They are also trying to grow as a company. Making concessions for a limited community is not cost effective.
We are still here. - Great! Happy to have you!
We are still supporting Nothing. - Awesome! Upgrade your phone!
We just want to know that Nothing is listening. - They are, and the answer is still no!

Please, stop begging - it will not change anything - it’s just getting tired and old. You are entitled to nothing, no special treatment, you bought their device knowing the stipulations. That’s it. Game over.

Any update on Essential Apps access for Phone (2)?

Nothing team/community members haven’t provided any clear update about Essential Apps access for Phone (2).

Earlier, we were told that access would be provided “from next week”, but it’s already been a couple of weeks and many Phone (2) users still haven’t received access or any further information.

Now that Nothing OS 5.0 has been announced and Phone (2) isn’t getting OS 5.0, I’m starting to wonder whether Essential Apps access is limited to Phone (3) / Nothing OS 5.0 supported devices.

Can anyone from the Nothing team confirm:

Will Nothing Phone (2) get Essential Apps access?
Is the rollout still happening for Phone (2)?
If yes, what is the expected timeline?
Or is Essential Apps now limited to newer Nothing devices?

It would be good to get a clear answer instead of leaving Phone (2) users waiting without any information.

The Essential Apps issue - and this is just specualtion…

End of major software support. Nothing’s NOS 5.0 page states that the Phone (2) “has reached the end of major software support and will not receive Nothing OS 5.0.” The Essential Apps Builder is being developed and rolled out as part of OS 5.0, so the Phone (2) is cut off from further updates to the feature.
Staged access rollout. Even during the OS 4.0 era, the Phone (2) was listed as compatible (capped at 2 simultaneous widgets vs. 6 on the Phone (3)), but the native Essential Apps app that launched in July 2026 rolls out access in waves — prioritizing earlier Alpha/Beta testers over device class. The Phone (2) has been confirmed as not yet receiving that access, and with no OS 5.0 update coming, it’s unlikely to be a priority going forward.

In short - it’s not a hardware limitation per se — it’s that the Phone (2) has been dropped from the OS update cycle that’s not carrying the feature forward.
