  • With ANC enabled I sometimes hear godawful distortion in mid-high range, similar to low bitrate mp3 artifacts, this wobbly drum sound. This sort of thing (see link), I kid you not - it’s that bad. I’m pretty sure it only happens when there’s a short, loud noise which wasn’t present before so ANC wasn’t prepared for it. And I don’t use adaptive ANC btw, but it still behaves suspiciously adaptive anyway, any Ear user will know what I’m talking about.

This never happened with Ear (2) (although that one suffered from the “adaptive” ANC as well, you could clearly hear when ANC became stronger or weaker and it was very distracting).

So, two questions: does anyone else experience this or is my hardware just faulty perhaps? And two, what can I do to remedy this? Disabling ANC is not an option, unfortunately, although that solves the sound quality issue. Or maybe the outside noise just makes it so I can’t hear it.

  • Decided to clean this little hole with a toothpick - bad idea. The grid inside is beyond flimsy and it came loose at the first opportunity (I was as careful as can be). I don’t know if it’s just the grid or maybe something else broke but the ANC on that earbud is effectively nonexistent now. Any tips on how I can solve it? You can’t disassemble the earbud can you? Perhaps break the other bud so that at least it’s balanced between the two of them?

I would also appreciate if someone in the know could explain the function of this hole. Is there even an ANC mic there? Is there supposed to be an airtight seal? Because even with ANC disabled, I can hear a lot more through the “broken” earbud somehow. The fit test in the official app also detects bad fit on that side, so it’s not just in my head.

edit: tell you what, I sealed the hole with regular plasticine and it sorta did the trick. ANC is much better, if not at the original level lol. Still, I’d be interested to hear as to why that is and what the hole does
