Hey everyone

I’ve recently wrapped up my latest Board meeting as your Community Board Observer, so it’s time to share another update on what’s been landing well and where I’ve been pushing your feedback directly to the team.

We’ve seen a lot of positive momentum across the past few months. The announcement of Charli xcx as Nothing’s first Global Brand Ambassador created a lot of excitement, particularly among community members who are already fans of hers, but also those who aren’t familiar with Nothing. Some of you even said the partnership has made you more interested in buying a Nothing product, which shows the potential it has to introduce the brand to a completely new audience.

The launches of Phone (4b) and Ear (3a) also received praise. The Glyph Bar on Phone (4b) met many people’s expectations, while the clean and minimalist design of both products, as well as the various colours on the Ear (3a) has gone down pretty well.

I also celebrated the publication of the Nothing OS release roadmap. This is something the community has requested for a long time, and I raised this at the previous Board meeting, so it was great to see that feedback was quickly actioned and turn into clearer, more transparent communication.

A few other positives to note included:

The Community Review Program continues to give community members opportunities to try the latest products and share honest feedback.
Communications around Phone (1) reaching end of life and the decision not to release a new CMF Phone this year were direct and transparent, which many of you appreciated.
The Phone (4b) RCB Edition was received really well in India, particularly alongside the exclusive Nothing Community giveaway.

Of course alongside the positives, I also raised some of the frustrations and concerns that have been shared across the community.

One of the biggest topics was around some of the continued frustrations around Phone (3), in regards to Nothing OS 4.1 and display concerns. Despite being positioned as a flagship device, there are still some software features unavailable. There are also ongoing reports around the charging limit, battery optimisation and heating that users feel have not yet been properly addressed.

Furthermore, there are multiple reports of black crush and green tint on this device. These issues don’t appear to affect everyone, but they have been reported consistently by enough users to require further attention and clearer communication.

I’ll be liaising with the team directly to gather more feedback, and aiming to find a solution to these concerns.

While the Charli xcx announcement was received positively by many, the reaction wasn’t universal. Some users, particularly outside Europe and the US, felt the focus was moving too far away from products and towards celebrity-led marketing. Others questioned how naturally the partnership would connect back to Nothing’s products. I shared that balance of feedback with the Board.

The new (b) product line also created some confusion. Naming has already been an ongoing conversation within the community, and some of you feel that introducing another product category makes the overall range harder to understand.

The team acknowledged this, and potentially it carries some naming “debt” with it whilst there was some experimentation with other naming styles. Over time, as Nothing continues to evolve we should see a more familiar, and easily distinguishable lineup of products against their respective naming.

Finally, a piece of content that received a strongly negative reaction was the Lupa AI TikTok. While it may have driven engagement, the wider sentiment was poor, with many comments describing it as “AI slop” and some users even saying it had made them reconsider their orders. I made sure the strength of that response was clearly communicated. There was similar feedback around the apparent “hack” of Nothing India’s social channels during the Phone (4b) RCB Edition launch. The Virat Kohli fan takeover was intended to create attention around the launch, but many users found the execution confusing or forced, with some saying they would unfollow the accounts as a result.

Nothing acknowledged the shift in some people’s perception over AI generated content, and also added that they wanted to give their teams some flexibility in trying new things and experimenting with content online. Whilst experimenting with different types of content, the team can better learn what works and resonates best, as well as understanding what doesn’t.

Overall, there’s still a lot to be excited about. The new products have landed strongly, communication has improved in some important areas, and initiatives such as the Nothing OS Release Roadmap and Community Review Program continue to show the value of community feedback.

At the same time, there are still issues around Phone (3) and some recent marketing decisions that need further consideration. These are exactly the conversations I’m there to bring into the room, and I’ll continue pushing for clarity and action wherever it’s needed.
