Smii but it’s the user’s responsibility to make sure you’ve got adequate backups of your important things.
This is 100% correct, Smii, but also this:
Smii Software shouldn’t delete photos, …
I’m not saying that gallery based data loss is acceptable, but also - bugs are inevitable
You cannot really compare a software bug to a hardware defect (or wear), the latter is inevitable to happen sooner or later, the former doesn’t have to happen at all and this here is clearly Nothing’s fault because @SpeedMirage didn’t backup, sure, but his phone also didn’t die, it’s a functional phone with a poorly coded gallery app which on its own is deleting stuff left and right (as he said, not just his problem but many other people suffer the same issue).
And bugs are inevitable but that’s why there is quality control testing like what Google does for example; when was the last time that any Google’s app (Photos, Files…) glitched and deleted data? Never, quite literally never. Yes, users forget their passwords and such so then they blame Google, but other than that - never. Because Google is doing testing and critical bug-fixing before pushing it an update to masses. Nothing is pushing updates to their users so those same users can do (beta) testing and be guinea pigs. That is the problem here.
One’s reason(s) to not immediately do a backup of their stuff is not justification to get punished because by the developers’ laziness to test the app. It would be fully user’s fault if their phone was lost/stolen or if it died, but not here.
And then people around Nothing community want so badly to get rid of Google apps and get Nothing-native replacements for FULLY FUNCTIONAL, STABLE AND SAFE (in regards to potential data loss/corruption) default Google apps; imagine the shitfest if Nothing Dialer was deleting contacts, Nothing Messages your important messages, Nothing File Manager locking files, folders or deleting them…
Losing important data (which can happen even if one is doing backups every hour every day, it can happen between two backups!) not because of user’s error/fault but because of bad code, all in the name of “We WaNt ApPs In NoThInG’s ThEmE aNd AeStHeThIcSs HuRr DuRr HuRr” (and also: “Copy the whole iOS, give us Liquid Glass!!!”)
