Aaaaaannd back on the shelf they go.

Waiting for the beta and actual bass enhancement changes. Honestly my hope is almost gone, I can only make these headphones sound reasonable wired on PC with heavy Equalizer APO changing the sound, and can’t use NC or Amb because it’ll take down almost all bass.

I’m kinda sick of getting my hopes up with these updates while they do jack sh!t to fix the actual problem people have…

For now it stays an expensive paperweight and a reminder to not buy another audio device unless they fix this headphone. If they can take away your most beloved feature in this one, they can do so in the future with new audio devices.

Pinky1337 after getting my pair yesterday and reading up on the issues they’ve had, I honestly don’t get it.

It’s surprising to me that the team haven’t rolled back to a known good firmware version and do the proper QA on the absolute mess of the recent firmware. We’re consumers, not beta testers.

To subject people to suffer through the audio issue or bury their head in the sand doing a very vague and loaded survey to buy them more dev time investigating the issues is unsustainable.

Roll it back.

I’m lucky enough to receive the beta

1.0.1.81,

For context i have, Sony XM3/XM4, Momentum 4, and a set of Hifiman Deva Pro - Planar Magnetics.

I actually opened up dialogue with Amazon to consider returning the headphones this week.

I was going to see what looked appealing on Black Friday.

After installing the first songs I put on were Mungos Hifi, if you know you know.. I had to turn bass down! I got shivers!

I’ve got a mix of SoundGuys, Drunkpods and LTT Labs profiles. Each retain a massive swing and their profiles havent been swamped out in these changes.

But they definitely feel warmer. They have character again. Not just off the shelf cheapo anymore.

Even with ANC, they feel alive.

Volume is maybe 10-20% off where I’d like.

But I prefer to have headphones max and dial back. Not have to ramp up and up.

Another song,

Kingfishr - Killaegh, Irish folk band.

The into was always meant to be deep, a stomach roar. It previously lacked.

Banjo is an instrument that I find headphones often off the mark with. My Planars hit them perfectly, Momentum’s probably 2nd, these are very close and need rich warm, sound and are easy to be drowned out.

Kingfishr - I cried,i wept. Has more going on, faster pace, delicate sounds of the banjo do get suffocated, but turning off bass enhancement and swapping profiles brought it back.

for context I’m always happy to swap settings per album, genre I listen too. I’m not a set and forget person.

But I would say Drunkpods v9.1 would round these out maybe not for perfectionists.

Thunder Jackson - Love Sock Doctor, again there’s warmth. which wasn’t there before. Vocals get lost abit, but tweak the settings and bring them back.

I’ve listened to some Delta Heavy, and Subfocus EDM, one of Drunkpods older spec works better. Need to dig out which one.

Conclusion

I wouldn’t say is miraculous and made these best in class,

But has definitely stopped me returning them.

I think I’m also seeing how important the diversity in profiles, previously on recent profiles it wasn’t that important I’d say.

But on the review it definitely is important and I wouldn’t say you can comfortably set and forget a single profile at the moment, but make them worth keeping and usable.

Guys, I’m currently on the beta 1.0.1.81. And I can say with confidence that the bass enhancement has been improved greatly! The feature actually works now, it’s hard to say if it is the same as before all this drama with bass. But this is a huge step up!

Thanks Nothing team for actually giving us hope with this headphone again!!!

I gave them a listen before the update to get a better sense of the differences that would come. And the bass is really punchy and deep again. The same songs sounds so different after the update! I even stopped the wavelet app to help with the bass, because it’s just not needed anymore.

Again, Nothing team, thanks a ton for this! I really hope this sound signature stays the same for the upcoming stable public release so everyone can enjoy their headphones again to the fullest!

I can actually love and recommend these headphones again with this improvement, and when the public update releases, I can finally change my reviews about this pair!

To all those mentioning the beta 1.0.1.81 I can only share the same opinions. It is so pleasing to feel that bass enhancement immediately when playing music. I’m not sure if it was the same as it was before (at launch), but definitely it is back and is very punchy. Kudos to the team or refining the Headphones since it’s launch and bringing back the bass levels we all missed 🙏

Quick note on the headphones, I’ve run into a slight problem when I wear my glasses. Just like that issue we saw right after launch, the small gap created by the arms of my specs seems to mess with the noise cancellation. When that seal is broken, the audio quality takes a hit and specifically, the bass can sounds a bit distorted. It would be great if the team could look into optimising the NC algorithm for glasses wearers in the next software update.

Habe gerade die heute erschienene Beta auf meinem Headphone (1) installiert. Und Leute… DER BASS IST ZURÜCK!

“Bass Enhance” funktioniert auch wieder. Bei komplett hoch gedrehtem Bass und Lautstärke kann der Bass übersteuern, aber das macht auch denk ich niemand oder?

Hört sich auf jeden Fall alles wieder fantastisch an und ich bin sehr zufrieden mit diesem Update!
