Nothing OS 4.0 AppServices Bloatware Installer

I just installed Nothing OS 4.0 a few hours ago on my CMF Phone 2 Pro. While I was happy with the UI-changes and features compared to Nothing OS 3.0, I noticed that there was this system app called “AppServices”.

I only noticed it because of a notification that suddenly appeared while I was using my phone.

So, out of curiosity, I checked the notification and found that it wants to install some “crappy” games and apps.

Fortunately, despite the “AppServices” being a system app, its notifications can be disabled easily.

Now, here’s a question: why didn’t Nothing tell us about this “AppServices” being included with Nothing OS 4.0? While I appreicate the fact that the controversial “Lock Glimpse” feature is disabled by default, I’m disappointed that the inclusion of this new app wasn’t even disclosed in the update’s changelog.

PhantomPolygon Nothing but a shameless act by the Nothing team. @Carl @Akis is this the clean UI looks like? When NothingOS launched you guys bashed Chinese UIs for being bloated and showing recommended apps and now look into the mirror. 😡

After the lastest NOS 4.0 Update on CMF phone 2 pro an app appeared on my device and I have attached the screen recording. This is actually very disappointing I think we are going to loss the stock android Experience in future 😭. Also they now introduced Lock screen Glance and also they introduced bloatwares on Nothing phone 3a lite and now this an app named (appservices) I have attached the screenshot of the app and it’s an hidden app inside the device and also we can disable it but still it’s very disappointing and this app is actually an AD viewer 😭💔 I think we are losing the pure stock android Experience and also there are several other bugs in the latest update on CMF phone 2 pro. I’m getting sucked with this update

THIS. I’m perfectly fine with pre-installed hand picked apps (like Insta or Whatsapp), I’m fine with Lock Glimpse as long as it’s off by default but THIS is just not good.

It’s the bad kind of bloat, it installs random apps no one asked for, it’s deceptive in that it doesn’t let you easily remove all apps (the two apps that appear on top look like they aren’t selected but they are and will install).

What’s worse is this is very against the transparency I got Nothing for. I would like them to tell us before they do this. This wasn’t included in the post they made earlier, only of a service that would offer hand picked quality apps (which these aren’t) and it’ll only be asked at the initial boot.

I don’t like this at all.

CocoLoco Once you are fine with bloats and ads , you will be given these kind of crappy ‘appservices’ and once you are fine with these ‘appservices’ too , you will be given another worse case things , because we were once fine with lack of features in the name of minimalism

What I’m trying to say is , if we don’t start to QUESTION from the beginning, we will be given worse experience everytime !

Agreed. What’s even worse is that this new “AppServices” bloatware installer wasn’t even mentioned in the update’s changelog.

I’ve disabled the app and fortunately, it doesn’t seem to have a negative effect on my phone’s stability and battery life.

Benestin Linson yes , They will mention , in the changelog , “2 new clockfaces” like it is the most requested and most important feature , just to make the changelog look longer , because they don’t really have enough upgrades to justify the ‘major android upgrade’ .

But they dont mention these kinda things…

My regrets grows everyday with my decision to buy from this brand

I am feeling exactly the same; I’m getting tired of this brand and I’m going to switch as soon as possible to another one. You hit the nail on the head—Nothing OS 4.0 is not a major update. It’s only being called ‘major’ because the base version changed from Android 15 to 16. There is zero substance otherwise.

It’s actually insulting to the users. While every other brand is pushing the boundaries with massive UI improvements, fluid system animations, and meaningful AI features like ‘Magic Eraser’ or real-time assistants, this brand is busy bragging about ‘2 new clock faces’ and ‘Extra Dark Mode.’ They are treating minute refinements like ground-breaking features just to pad their changelog. It feels like they are making fun of us at this point by hyping up ‘Nothing’ while the competition actually delivers. I’m done waiting for innovation that never arrives.

It’s a shame that the company did something like this. They should be releasing phones that people need and that people used to buy for nothing, but now the company is just dying because of a useless person.

My wife’s phone is a CMF pro 2 and just installed os 4 , received the popup for bloat ware software, have disabled notifications

I have a nothing phone 3a and it does not have appservices bloatware running os 4

steveeeg This new AppServices bloat is only available for CMF Phones and Phone 3a Lite, as these phones each make Nothing a loss in overall sales as each unit is sold, so Nothing uses this on Thier budget models to make up for the losses.

Same tactic that Samsung uses for Thier budget model phone with the AppCloud service.

I used to own an A24, and it had the same bloat feature.

Just checked the CMF Phone 1 I gave to my dad and found that the “AppServices” bloatware installer is also there.

I understand why the guy in the latest video threw his Nothing phone from multiple stories.

I would’ve asked to vote with your wallet, but seeing the success of the 3a lite, I think Nothing is going to keep getting worse and still make money.

Let’s see what the usual defenders have to say on this topic

It is always active in background. Don’t know much what it does ..if someone know why it is in my phone . I think it’s a malicious application
