I’ve been using Essential Space extensively since its launch, and I’d like to share some constructive feedback. These suggestions come from real daily usage scenarios where I encountered limitations.
1. Intelligent Auto-Categorization & Smart Collections
Currently, adding items to collections is entirely manual. While I understand Smart Collections are on the roadmap, I’d love to see:
- AI-powered automatic categorization of captures based on content type (work, personal, shopping, travel, etc.)
- Smart suggestion when creating a new memo:“This looks like a recipe - add to @RECIPES collection?”
- Quick actions like “Add to @COLLECTION_NAME” directly from the capture screen or via voice?memo
2. Archive/Deprecation Feature for Outdated Memos
Not all memories remain relevant forever. I’d appreciate:
- An “Archive” option for memos that are no longer current but shouldn’t be deleted
- Visual indicators (e.g., grayed out or with a strikethrough) for archived items or full removal from view
- The ability to mark items as “completed” or “expired” without removing them entirely
- Archived items should be hidden from the main Memory feed but searchable if needed
3. Enhanced Event Integration
When Essential Space creates a task, the connection between the memo and the task feels disconnected:
- In the task preview within Essential Space, there should be immediate visibility of the associated memo
- Currently, there’s no direct link or quick way to navigate between the event and its source capture, you need to press the dots in the right top
4. Proper Event vs. Task Recognition
This is a UX issue: Essential Space currently treats everything as a task, even when it should be an event.
For example:
- When I capture “I have dinner at 3 PM”, it creates a task “eat dinner”
- This should recognize it as a time-bound event, not a to-do item
- Events have specific times and shouldn’t appear in a task list - they belong on a calendar
The app needs to distinguish between:
- Events - time-bound activities with specific start times (meetings, appointments, dinner reservations)
- Tasks/To-dos - flexible items maybe even without fixed times (buy groceries, call mom, review document)
5. Proper Calendar Sync Based on Item Type
Building on point #3, when syncing to Google Calendar:
- Events → sync to Google Calendar as calendar events
- Tasks → sync to Google Tasks
- This would create a proper organizational structure that matches how people actually work
- Currently, everything goes to Calendar regardless of type, which clutters the calendar view
Closing in
Essential Space has enormous potential and is already one of the most practical AI features I’ve used. Thanks, team and I’m looking forward to check out how it develops.
Btw. Font acts weird on widget with polish letters.
