I recently purchased the Phone 4a Pro and wanted to share my feedback. The reason I’m writing is also because a friend of mine bought the Phone 4a, which gave me a chance to closely compare both devices.

Firstly, I’d like to say that I truly appreciate the overall experience your products deliver. Like many others, I’ve followed reviews and user opinions closely, and I understand why devices like the CMF Phone 2 Pro are often appreciated for their value for money proposition. In a similar way, across the 2a, 3a, and now 4a lineup, these devices consistently feel like very well balanced offerings.

I’d also like to share a small personal observation as a regular customer. I’m not an expert when it comes to mobile purchases, but when I first saw the promotional poster, it showed a price of around ₹35,000. My initial reaction was “Wow, I can buy this!” However, when I later checked the website, I realized that this pricing was for the lower end variant with bank offers applied, while the higher end variant goes up to around ₹46,000. I understand this is a common marketing strategy used across the industry, not just by Nothing, but as a customer, the experience went from excitement to a bit of surprise.

Coming to the device itself, I feel that the “Pro” variant doesn’t fully differentiate itself as much as expected. When a product is labeled “Pro,” users naturally expect a more significant upgrade, especially when making a higher investment. While the Phone 4a Pro is a good device, the differences in specifications and the fact that software update support appears similar to the 4a make it harder to justify the price gap.

I also feel that when hardware differentiation is limited due to supply chain constraints, software becomes an even more important area to create value. Software support and updates are fully within your control, and enhancing them for Pro models such as longer update cycles or exclusive features could significantly improve the overall user experience and better justify the premium pricing.

From a user’s perspective, when investing in a Pro model, there is an expectation of better longevity, stronger feature differentiation, and a more premium experience overall. Currently, the Phone 4a seems to offer the best value in the lineup.

Whenever a device is positioned as “Pro” or “flagship,” I believe it’s worth double checking again and again that it truly delivers on that promise from a user’s perspective.

I’m sharing this feedback with respect and genuine interest in your products. I believe in your vision, especially the emphasis on user experience, and I hope future Pro models reflect a clearer distinction and added value for users.

Nothing Phone 4a Pro - 1 month review.

I’ve been along for the journey since Phone 1. I couldn’t ignore the 2a; Nothing nailed the design, the feel, and the specs for the price. Phone 2a has been my daily driver since it’s launch. My son got the CMF Phone 1 and my mum leap-frogged me with the Nothing Phone 3a.

When I saw the 4a, I was impressed with the looks, specs and price that I instantly handed over the money. The 4a Pro certainly caught my eye… but I just wasn’t sure about the Glyph Matrix.

Nothing sent me a review unit of the 4a Pro and here are my thoughts:

Build and Feel

It’s a beauty! There’s a premium all-metal feel that’s instantly noticeable when compared with the 4a. The 4a looks great, but it doesn’t feel as good as the Phone 2a in my opinion.

The aluminium body and the in-hand feel (thinnest Nothing phone yet) of the Pro add up to something special. It’s heavier, yes, and you do feel that if using the phone for longer periods.

The Display & Camera

The screen is a knockout, featuring a bright, high-resolution panel with slim symmetrical bezels. Again, sitting next to the 4a, I was drawn to the Pro.

This was also the case when it comes to the camera. Side-by-side comparisons proved that the Pro has the edge. Not always—there were some actually some wins for the cheaper 4 with the main camera of both phones delivering some fantastic images; colours and clarity are all there with the Pro giving that extra something.

Let’s talk zoom. 3.5x all the way to 20x, maybe even 30x, delivers fantastic results in good light. I’m more than pleased with the results. Past 30x is playtime and not really for high-quality usable shots, but c’mon, we knew that, right? It’s great to have, especially for the money. Early stutters seem to have passed (the phone has had one update) and I am really enjoying using the whole camera system, including the occasional dip into the onboard presets.

The Glyph Matrix

As mentioned, I was worried the Glyph Matrix being, well, too much! My verdict is… it’s decent. Evolved. Not perfect - I think it should be far easier to switch between Glyph “toys” and I hope to see that in a future update.

What I can say is I love how it looks, wrapped up in that very cool window (that’s what we’re calling it right?), tucked up beside the camera lenses, cool aesthetics and a flashing recording light. I’ve assigned a heart glyph to my wife, and honestly? I get the same kick from seeing it light up as I did from the Phone 1’s notification light all those years ago. It looks futuristic and I love it.

Is it hot in here or is it me?

The phone’s processor does the job and very nicely too. It’s packing the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, which is perfectly capable for everyday usage. Even when I’m pushing it with photo edits, it hasn’t missed a beat.

I have experienced the phone getting a little on the warmer side, likely due to the aluminium back. However, the couple of times I felt this, the cooling vapour system seemed to kick in and take care of it as a result, instead of to prevent, if that makes sense. It handles the heat well once it gets going. I don’t do much video recording, so I won’t comment there, but for my daily needs, it’s been rock solid.

Battery

The battery has been great. Plenty left in the tank at the end of the day even with heavy use.

The Decision

So, at the start, I mentioned I bought the Nothing Phone 4a. Well, as soon as I held the Pro in my hands I instantly knew what my decision was….as in straight away! Confirmed with a side-by-side photo comparison test and my mind was made up. I’ve boxed up the 4a and ordered the 4a Pro.

Nothing was going to stop me!
