RaushanKumar_VBDWNsL5aJ Because it is a pandora’s box for Nothing. If they give in and extend their update policy in whatever way for just one device, everybody comes running and demands the same treatment for their phone while pointing at the phone which got an unplanned update extension.
Again we had this very same discussion almost exactly one year ago with the Nothing Phone (1), were NP1 users kept very vocally demanding getting the Android 16 update. Nothing didn’t gave in and they were likely very well aware of if they did, this will repeat over and over with every single year.
Besides why just one year? Just in terms of hardware compatability, the NP2 hardware will likely be able to support Android 18 and likely further on. Extend now for a year and next year we’ll have the same discussion yet again why Nothing doesn’t provide Android 18 as another show of goodwill towards their loyal customers.
Last but not least Nothing has been very straightforward and transparent with their update policy. It is noted in the tech specs very clearly, when I purchased my NP2 almost three years ago initially, I knew the last major update would ve Android 16. That’s what Nothing stated and what I knew prior purchasing it. If that wouldn’t have been good enough for me, I would have skipped the phone and bought something else with a better update policy instead.
