I concor with everyone here that Nothing needs better implementation of haptic feedback especially now that the device is officially on Android 14.

I have requested the Nothing team through feedback form that there needs to be a provision wherein users are free to adjust the strength of the haptics instead of the current one. Given the low intensity, I tend to miss a lot of calls when the phone is on vibrate mode due to low haptic strength during office hours leading to lot of inconvenience. I know Nothing had implemented this feature in NOS 2.5.3 but they removed it in 2.5.3.a.

I don’t know if this was a malicious attempt to force users to purchase newer phones so as to jack up the sales. If that is the case, I am sure Nothing is leaving a sour taste for phone 1 users, for, they won’t be willing to stick to Nothing brand due to such dubious practices.

I hope Nothing is looking into long term vision instead of looking for immediate gains.

RajeevKumar_vNXavrqAJ7 First I’d like to say I don’t own my Nothing Phone (2) anymore, but I’m actually interested in buying one again and came here to do some research about this vibration noise issue.

What has been mentioned by @sagarsahani has been one of the very few things which really disappointed me about the phone. Even when I disabled typing audio and thus only vibration enabled, the haptic engine made noises so loud, it sounded as if I had audio feedback enabled. It’s hard to explain, especially since English isn’t my native language, but it was fairly annoying and distracting. I eventually got around with it by actually increasing the vibration duration within the Gboard settings - it made the haptic sounds go away, but vibration was too annoying now.

Basically I had the the choice between semi decent typing haptics and annoying noises or too long/strong haptics and silence. I have two other phones and haptics are silent there, you just feel the vibration and don’t hear it. On the Nothing Phone (2) it was always audible.

Edit: I actually couldn’t resist and have bought a Phone (2) just two days ago. The typing noise I mentioned is also present on the newly bought device using the latest 2.5.6 software update. I have only haptic feedback for Gboard enabled and that feedback is very week, yet the haptic engine seems to be very audible. In comparison my Galaxy Fold 4 with the same settings is essentially silent and provides a decent amount of haptic feedback.

Coldpaw What is your option on Call’s and SMS vibration with and without case in NP2

EDIT: It’s June 18, 2024, and there’s still no improvement in the haptics. Whether I’m in a noisy place with sound mode on or in a very quiet workplace with vibrate mode on, I can’t even feel my phone calls in my pocket or on my desk.

WilfredSwaroop In my opinion vibration is ok for calls, but I am also using one of the default ringtones. Using a custom ringtone the vibration is pretty weak indeed.

For notifications in general I think it’s too weak, especially when I’m using custom sounds vibration almost feels not existent at all.

I don’t use a case on my phone, but I have a custom made pocket sleeve made out of cloth, if the phone is inside, I essentially don’t feel any vibrations at all.

After updating my phone (1) to OS 2.5.6, I’ve noticed the haptic feedback is significantly stronger. It would be great to have a setting to adjust the intensity to our preference. This feature could improve user comfort and potentially save battery life.

So I was working night shifts last week and when taking a break in our smaller break room, two other people have been in there. One of them napping, the other one busy with her phone, so I started typing away on my Phone (2) and quickly got “the look” from both of them, even though we were sitting a few meters apart from each other, the haptic feedback was very audible, so much I had to turn it off. Pulled out my Fold 4 with haptic feedback enabled and nobody was bothered, I even tried the cheap Nokia smartphone supplied by my employer, again nobody was bothered.

Since I had four night shifts in a row I tried it every night with different co-workers present and most of them were bothered by the noise the haptic engine of the Nothing Phone (2) emits. In a silent room with echoing accustics you don’t even have to sit right next to each other in order to hear it.

Is this some software bug, a design issue with the actual vibration engine or is it even for some reason intentional?

Hello there. I’m look into *.ogg audio files from NOS 1.5 and i seen attribute in metadata - “ANDROID_HAPTIC 1”, i try to add this to my custom notification sound and yes, in preview i have synced haptic feedback with sound. But hey, it doesnt work when i set my sound as default for notifications. But why, Nothing? It would be great to have “custom” haptics like (im sorry) in iOS.
      (NP1, NOS 2.5.6)

      UPD
We can use only this attribute to switch on synced haptics, but alo we can make 3rd channel in audio that can contain self-maded vibration track - custom pattern and custom length.

Maxeem Reeves When I use any custom ringtones or notification sounds, I don’t get any vibration at all, even not when using tones I’ve created with the composer. My Phone (2) only vibrates when using one of the default tones - another rather annoying thing regarding the haptic engine.

Still we all are waiting for the haptics and camera improvements.

Is nothing OS 3.0 still going to be a bad choice for camera and haptics??
