Rob ⚡️ What would you guys like to see, if you could go back and land on the homepage for the first time after signing up?
A curated selection of threads.
A homepage where the first highlighted threads show the best of the best. Think “Editor’s Picks” illustrating not just what’s trending, but what Nothing thinks can attract a diverse set of eyeballs.
The technical side is important, so that carousel of content should include a thread with a guide/tutorial/FAQ, like you mentioned. Something that’s either new or that people keep asking about.
But that, or the Customer Care side, are not everything. They are as crucial as the sides that show a vibrant, creative Community. I would love to see threads about culture, entertainment, a place where I could introduce myself, etc.
Algorithms cannot predict this as well as the human mind, so it would have to be the Community Team to make that choice. It should never be utility vs. engagement, but two aspects cut from the same cloth.
For the people who created the thread, it could be a badge of honor (quite literally if the badges we were talking about before are included) and for those who see it for the first time, a sprawling ramification of diverse points of interest, a trampoline to start interacting.
The first time I opened the homepage, I wanted to explore. If Nothing manages to put “a little bit of everything all of the time” (thanks, Bo) in front of our eyes, it’s lessening the friction.
You arrive and you have four or five threads in front of you. You open four at any given time and you love what you see. One more and you continue to explore excellent content. Chances are, you are going to search and discover everything there’s to know, topics you didn’t even know you were craving.
Like I mentioned several times before, content and organization are the hooks.
