My first question is what do you think is the best way for a young person like myself (15) to find a mentor? My second question is were there any summer jobs in high school or college that you think gave you an edge in getting started in consumer electronics? My third and final question is in this new age of cutting edge technology, is there a way I could differentiate myself outside of mastering computer programming?
Questions for Mr. Pei
1/ I’m not a fan of mentors, because it’s hard to align incentives. The most impressive people are not going to be able to spend a lot of time mentoring someone for free. However, there’s so much free content online from everyone you can think of. There’s free online classes from the top universities and professors, and also a lot of content from the top entrepreneurs.
2/ If you want to grow quicker than other people, none of the summer jobs willing to take a chance on you will be able to provide that. What’s been helpful to myself was just doing stuff. I’ve done so many projects that have failed that nobody heard of. Those taught me a lot.
3/ Develop the habits of hard work, ability to endure suffering, and delayed gratification. Gen Z/A really lack these attributes, and will really differentiate you.
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions I really appreciate it.
I too have a question that I hope can be answered, maybe a bit too soon. Will the next phone/s be available for the US costumers like myself? Or will it be like phone 2 and be lucky enough to grab one when it’s available.

Carl I am a genz and I literally have the same answers
- Don’t have a single specific mentor learn little little things from every great person(alive and dead both).
- I also tell my parents again and again I don’t wanna do college there enough free resources online and books through I can become a great person myself. But they continue to say me to pursue degree degree degree, so we are in a debate till now. (Any suggest Sir Pie?)
- Today’s almost all genz/a want everything in the blink of second they don’t know patience , suffering and hard work which we need. That’s what makes me special and can make you special too.
Nobody College or no college, the key is that you need to have credible proof points that you’re capable. If you don’t go to college, can you establish better proof points during the same duration of time? If you are confident that you can, college isn’t necessary. 99% of people should go to college.
