I think you’re misunderstanding my simple and pedantic statement that the 2a/2a plus are not good value-for-money, while the CMF1 might be the best value-for-money currently on the market (169 GBP in UK and around 13500 INR in India for the 8/128 variant).

Edit: it seems that the 2a is now available for £237, so I need to adjust my statement as that is an excellent deal.

I don’t really see a huge difference between the CMF1 and the 2a/+ except for the cameras. OIS is quite nice.

Comparing aliexpress price, there’s no western profit in the CMF1 and quite a lot in the 2a plus (the Ali and amazon, website prices align for the CMF1, but there’s at least 30% profit extra on the 2a plus).

Nfc is a fair point, nfc is not mainstream in India, in here all payments are QR based, even a lot of top restaurants don’t have nfc, but almost even all the street vendors have a QR. So I kinda don’t miss the feature. But I get why it’s a deal breaker for many.

Kodak In the UK wherever there’s NFC, I used bankcard as its safer and more reliable than phone. I’ve never run into an issue where I can’t use QR code/bankcard tap instead of NFC.

Also, having banking apps on a phone is a poor idea with phone theft on the rise in the UK.

On the (London) tube, bankcards always work and NFC causes a slight delay.

It’s more of a pain in the as to deal with the phone.

Also, I don’t always like being contactable, so I often leave my phone at my desk/home. Being non-contactable is precious.

Cards are superior and much easier to carry.

Alexshax I think you’re missing the point that when using the London tube the gate is slower to open over NFC versus using a bankcard as extra steps are required (Android App and NFC authorisation versus RFID of a bank card directly).

This is well-documented as more iterative steps have to be performed to process a charge.

I find bliss in not having access to my phone, so I can be undisturbed and enjoy my surroundings more.

Kodak there is also the extra camera on the Nothing Phone 2a/2a Plus. This is probably the most important feature to differentiate CMF Phone 1 from Nothing Phone 2a.

mafcarvalho the lens is great, obviously ultra wide covers a lot of extra area on the photo. But the quality is still the same. And let’s be real. Nobody buys a nothing phone for CAMERA.

Kodak well, you’re right that nobody buys a Nothing Phone because of their photo quality reputation… but an ultra-wide lens helps a lot. With the stable release of Nothing OS 3.0 the cameras are working better but comparing to the Pixel 7a I had before, the level of detail and stability of the cameras is quite inferior. I got the NP 2a because of a good deal that included an original charger and Nothing Ear (Stick) included. Unfortunately the Pixel 7a was stolen. Still I love the non-bloated Nothing OS and that was really the main attraction to me.
