The rear camera flash is a bit weird, I’m assuming the flash with the dot is the automatic flash mode, when in automatic flash, the flash just stays on even when its not dark, like there is no difference to the fill light mode. Why is that? Can this problem be fixed on the upcoming update? Also, please add systems volume setting , like make it separate from the media, ringtone, notification and alarm volume. Lastly, is that I hope there will be Nothing’s own calculator and calender app.
Camera Flash
I’m somewhat surprised that there is no answer so far, because that really seems to be bug.
As the thread opener said, there is no difference between what I suppose are the automatic and the manual flash modes. In auto mode (with the red dot on the red flash icon), the flashlight is on all the time. In manual flash mode (red flash icon without dot), the flash is not on permanently, but it fires up on each photo taken, no matter how dark or bright the surrounding light conditions are.
The expected behaviour of an auto flash mode is that it fires up upon taking a photo when it’s dark, and to not fire up when it’s bright. This is how auto flash works on ALL phones that I know.
On the front facing cam, both flash modes work as expected, despite the obvious fact that there is no actual flash LED but only a simulation by brighting up the display.
Are we doing something wrong?

Same problem, I contacted support providing a video.
This was the response:
I understand your concern regarding the automatic flash setting on Nothing Phone (2). As of now, the available flash options are “Always off,” “Always on,” “On but only when taking a photo,” and “Giphy.” Unfortunately, the automatic flash feature, which adjusts flash based on lighting conditions, is not supported at this time.
Can someone tell why there is no auto flashlight option available in the camera app?
The first option turns of the camera
The second one turns on the flash after you press the shutter button (all the time)
The third one turns on the flashlight even before pressing the shutter button.
Every phone has this option to use flashlight automatically in low light conditions but it’s not available on nothing os camera
I am experiencing the same with Nothing Phone 3a. I have also raised a support request but they don’t answer anything. I took photos today in bright day light outdoor environment and it still throws the flash.
Its a very basic feature available is all the smartphones even the entry level ones, then why is it missing from Nothing.
How can it be that they have AutoFlash for front camera but only always on for back camera ?
