Came here searching Google for Dolby Atmos support on Nothing Phone 2.
Actually I am wondering if a support for Atmos via a dedicated app or settings in the phone’s menu is really required in order to have Atmos. The reason why I’m asking this: I received my Sonos Ace headset. For testing purposes, I subscribed to Amazon Music Unlimited since Spotify doesn’t provide HD audio, let alone Atmos. Interestingly, when I playback an Atmos track, the track is actually being played back in Atmos:
When I then click the Atmos line, I can switch between Atmos and Stereo playback:
When I do this, there is a very clearly hearable difference. The difference is very similar to what you can hear when you use Apple Music on an iPhone along with AirPods Max for example and switch audio between Spatial Audio On and Off.
Of course it could be that the Amazon Music app’s claim to output Atmos is crap, but on the other hand, as said there is a clearly difference when I switch between Stereo and Atmos.
On the other hand, I remember that I had phones in the past that had a Dolby Atmos section in the Settings menu, which I always found to be crap, because when you enabled it, this also enabled some equalization which you could only change, but not disable. Looked like this:
Of course I might miss something, but right now my feeling is that the phone actually is able to output Dolby Atmos with supported apps, it just doesn’t offer these additional equalizer settings that I would not want to use in the first place anyway.
