As of now, its probably not intended but it should be possible with 3rd party software anyway. But if you look at NothingX, its kinda unlikely they will add this to NOS.

You can make the power button into your camera button if you want by following these steps:

Go to settings

Scroll down and click special features

Go to gestures

Click on “double press power button" then select camera

I hope this helps

    Saksham2A yeah, but it is still not a shutter button. It can open the camera but can’t take photos, i think that’s the main issue.

      dan_here This is not a programmable button like on an iPhone, for example. This is an Essential Button for the Essential space.

        It’d be nice to have the flexibility, for me taking photos of what’s around is Essential.

        Well adding a button to an app that, unless you take vocal notes, is completely useless, is a bit weird if you do not let users change the function of the button… But here we are, I have a dozen of print screens and useless vocal notes activated by this button in my pocket, and that’s just the first day. 😂 Other than that it’s a great phone (I broke my 2 and bought this one, waiting for the 3 coming out this summer).

        i think the main thing to bear in mind here is that the essentials button might be baked in for AI, it’s the primary function for that button and it’s a standout feature of the device. I must admit, if i was the dev team (which i aren’t) i’d die on the hill of that button retaining its primary function and growing on the functionality rather than opening it up to be a ‘whatever’ button.

        If the team don’t want to let us customise it… can they at least let us turn it off?

        Disabling Essential Space doesn’t stop the button waking the screen etc

        totally agree pls consider to give a Feedback (go in Settings-scroll down-Feedback) in the Phone this would show them that we really want this Feature optional.

        Love my 3a, but starting to hate this damn Essential Key

        If they don’t let us disable it I’ll probably end up glueing it or popping it out and removing the connector or something to stop it working

        dan_here you can launch camera by double clicking on the power button and use volume down button as the shutter button and if you hold on to the volume down button it will record video, hope this helps!

          I’m hopeful they just let us disable the Essential Key

          If not… I will probably end up physically removing the key myself and filling in the hole with white epoxy or something
