It still works well, usually keep Apple devices for at least three years minimum (especially with less substantial changes for each iteration nowadays - not really into the more cameras angle).
More of my issue with the Apple devices is for the Airpods line - which I love but battery and even its durability is the issue. My Airpods lasted a year and a half (a lot of usage) until only one piece lasts for a long time - both are dead now. With the Airpods Pro, another great product where battery life seems okay / better although it may be because I now do try to not use it all the time. A drop of one piece though has seemed to affected it with cracking sounds now when it goes above a certain volume level which sucks for such an expensive product since I have to use it for a long time (no official Apple Service Center in the country I’m currently living in).
I also don’t actually use the other audio modes since it still sounds off/weird for me (both the Noise Cancellation & Transparency modes).
For the Ear 1, yeah, if it is along the price range of the AirPods Pro, it would be a yes. Budget-wise, it will now be a decision of which do I purchase first depending on features and availability once Ear 1 and any new Airpods get announced. Design would be a big big factor for me, followed by the benefits/features.
