I’m using and having issues with a Skoda Superb mk3.

Feedback has been sent and I’ve received a reply to confirm the issue is with the mic and that I’ve tried resetting the phone…which I obviously did prior to carrying out all my further investigations!

I did do a migration from a Huawei to Phone2(a) via android set up using a USB cable. I wouldn’t see how this could affect the bluetooth calling though.

I have since noted that the mic in the car does work when using the Google assistant while connected to Android Auto. The spoken command is shown on the car screen and the command is carried out by the assistant. This shows the mic in the car is connected to the phone for this to be able to be done. It just doesn’t work when making calls. Very strange and seems like a bug or some sort of software issue.

I hope it can get sorted because it could end up being a deal breaker for keeping the 2(a) - I need to be able to make bluetooth calls in the car that aren’t one way conversations!

Yes it is like basic function not working… expected much more from community brand like Nothing. I get it is new HW and I am able to live with it but only for certain amount of time so please Nothing focus on this at it seems it is somehow affecting škoda(possibly also VW) users.

I just got this response (which is not good enough imo) from Nothing Support:

    "Hi,

The technical team suggests that you try upgrading to Android Auto. Currently, it seems that the compatibility issue arises from the mismatch between the versions on your mobile device and the car system.

We look forward to your feedback.

    Kind regards,
    Nothing Support Team"

    I responded with:

    "Hi Nothing,

Thanks for your response, but sorry I’m not really happy with the response.

What does the technical team mean by “try upgrading to Android Auto” actually mean?

I’ve tested two Pixel phones (both running Android 14 same as the Nothing Phone 2a) and a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and they all work perfectly. So where is the miss match here?

    Thanks
    Regards,"

    Sent a follow-up email:

"Just to add I will see if there’s an update firmware for my infotainment system in my car but the point I have is why do other Android devices work (same Android version too) and the Nothing Phone 2a doesn’t..

    Thanks
    Regards,"

I am having the same microphone issue when using my new 2a and a VW Golf Mk8. Google Assistant works fine, but when I make/receive calls, no one can hear me but I can hear them. Microphone permissions are good, USB debugging is on, so does feel like a Nothing issue with particular car systems, the VW Group being one of them.

Hi unfortunatelly I didnt find any solution so far nor workaround. Tried all programming settings for bluetooth (a2dp/ different codecs, allowing only one device to connect BT etc) also installed last beta version of AA and no success so far.

If someone knows any workaround, let us know.

      Hi,

I also have problems with Android Auto (AA). In my case the voice commands seem to work normally, but the car screen is completely stuck. Best way to describe the issue would be that the “screen update” is really really slow and the phone updates the image on the car screen maybe every 30 seconds or so.

Car is a 2018 Opel Astra, but I really don’t think it matters what we’re driving. Definitely a Nothing issue.

Made a ticket to the support about the problems. They said they are sorry, and asked me to provide a Bluetooth bug report. I did just that a couple of minutes ago.

Hopefully this issue can be solved soon. The 2a is a nice device for the price, but the lack of Android Auto has really had me pondering wether I should return the phone or not 🙁

Btw can someone confirm that before update to nothing os 2.5.4 (phone straight from the box) the issue persist?

MatthewSkilton Can you confirm that the calling works with other apps such as Whatsapp,Telegram or Viber?

As @Rhiz3K found out its only the Google Phone app having this issue? My Skoda Superb is in the workshop getting Stage 3 upgrades and will be ready on the weekend. So im unable to try it until then.

If we confirm this it should be a pretty simple fix for Nothing (i think).

          Hello

Does anyone else have problems with calling when connected to Android Auto on Cupra Formentor??

Everything works fine, but when i call someone or someone calls me they just cannot hear me and i hear them fine. Its weird because the google assistant is working. So the microphones in the car are working. Im coming from iPhone 13 Pro and there were no issues regarding calling with CarPlay connected. I know its not a cable or port issue because it does this even when connected wirelessly.

I just hope that this gets fixed

I can confirm. Whatsapp calls works fine. I tried to install other caller app, not Google one, but the issue is still there.

Signal/WhatsApp mic on BT/AA working but calls still NOTHING on 2.5.4a. Would be gr8 if someone from NOTHING would at least acknowledge this as an issue and let us know they are investigating it…

Nothing support are asking me to upgrade my entertainment unit to the latest version even though the latest version for my car from my understanding is just a terms & conditions update only, so I don’t seeing it resolving the issue. I will upgrade my unit when I take my car for a service in a couple of weeks time just to prove it’s not that, but still it doesn’t really explain why other Android phones work without any issues (also running Android 14).

Feels like Nothing don’t want to take responsibility, I even told them about this particular thread saying it’s a more wide spread issue. Does anyone know a way of escalating because Nothing support as currently they are leaving a bit to be desired in terms of their responses and taking responsibility of trying to resolve from their end. 🙁

            Customer care reply me:

            "Hello Luca,
We hope this email finds you well. This is a follow-up regarding your current issue. We have synchronized the respective team to investigate the issue you reported, and we will fix it as soon as possible in the subsequent versions. Thank you very much.

            Warm regards"

freshj1ve Feels like the nothing support is only chatbots that are pretty much just wasting my time.

Hopefully someday we get a technician respond to this thread…

In my case I didn’t have this perception, on the contrary. The chatbot intervenes when their requests are not responded to or if after receiving a definitive response they do not close with #solved

They wrote to me several times to indicate the thread was closed but in the absence of the final solution but only that they would do it to me it doesn’t seem to be enough to close everything.

If it will be same for a month we should do some mentions on x.com to Carl directly…
