Hi all,

As an Android developer, I am interested to know whether Nothing has any plans to open a Developer Program (such as the one OnePlus has/had), in order to provide Open Source developers with access to the Nothing Phone (1) hardware, in order to kickstart the modding community around this phone’s custom {ROMs, firmwares, kernels, etc}.

If so, what would you think would be the pre-requisites to access such program? In terms of, developer relations, membership status in online forums, recognition for previous work (and if so, for what kind of developments), etc.

Likewise, I have had experience in the past developing software for Android devices (I post most of the stuff on Twitter, in case you would like to check), and know many more devs like me. I would really like to help finding the right people to do this/helping in controlling the development, or even moderating it if Nothing wishes to channel it via a platform Nothing controls, such as these very forums.

Let me know your thoughts!

It would be very interesting to make your softwares Open Source so that this great community could contribute building your projects to the best. I’m mainly thinking about Nothing OS, in which developers here can help you reach your goals, cause we all have the same vision of how a phone should be, and it all begins with the OS. Looking forward to seeing this proposition accepted!

I’m also interested in knowing Nothing’s stand towards the development community and bootloader status, also the impact of the same on phone’s warranty.

I’m sorry for the tag @Rudi, but I feel I should draw your attention here, to hopefully get this question escalated internally and answered prior to device launch.

linuxct I think with this being a new launch with many aspects being kept under wraps until Nothing decide to release the information to the public that a open programme won’t be priority to them at this stage, though I agree something to be looked over at some point.

It has been 1 month now. The phone has been launched and people are getting their hands on it. Once again, @Rudi, can you please escalate this to the team so we can know Nothing’s stance on the community of Android developers?

linuxct I think it’s safe to say they will be not. They have a lot already going on and even the investors group is all over the place, plus pre orders, RMAs etc etc etc

If you watch the latest Youtube video you can see there is/was a beta program that was super small and closed. Id say having a full blown android dev program with members and whatnot is not the best choice right now. To many small groups that can’t get answers
