I don’t see a reason to attend there. I don’t need any number on it and as we’re investors, we get priority access anyways. Even more @Carl confirmed they have something planned according to this thread https://nothing.community/d/81-ear1-to-be-available-on-stockc-on-19th-july-what-about-investor-early-access 😃

But it’s a great marketing “tool” especially for fans/ non investors who want to grab them even earlier and catch a special version!

Kastello Indeed, I think they [auction - stock for investors] will operate in two different lanes.

I am happy to read that investors will get their chance to get a pair of the ear (1) with some sort of special access, as it was something we were talking about on a different thread.

As for the StockX situation, hopefully we’ll see some movement soon after it opens. I agree with you about it being a marketing tool, even when any press is not good press. 😅

Well, I have to say that it looks very unique and industrial. Not exactly what I’ve imagined TBH, but I like it very much, it’s cool looking! 😍

It’s a piece of art in a way, because of the curves of the transparent plastic. It’s stylish and premium.

And now we have confirmation that the dotted pattern is part of the actual design @Rob ⚡️! 😁

I’m happy to see a hopefully-clicky button. Is that an LED in the corner? The carved placements of the earphones look like a mix of puzzle pieces and Super 8 cameras.

I’m still debating myself if I like the design or not; seeing the complete product will tip the scales to one side or the other.

Though, something is for sure: this product is a clear statement, setting foot in the market.

My pleasure. It’s the first time I am covering a live auction and I have to say, even if I am not going to bid, it’s quite fascinating.

Hope that with the contribution of everyone, it can be an interesting thread to keep us informed and entertained.

I am monitoring the page and, after just one hour, the highest bid is already 404€ - that’s more than four times the official price announced. Based on this start, I wouldn’t be surprised if it approaches the 1000€ mark.

I completely agree with you about the design of the case. It’s a looker and it has a proper distinct look. We can also see the USB-C port (not surprising, but always a nice confirmation).

From that image, I love how the plastic kinda looks like it melted. 🤓

Haha, we were so confused about where all the innards were! But they were right there all along! Super intriguing design that I’m excited to get my hands on - Loving the chrome-looking hinge and magnet!

I noticed a little bit of copy on the StockX site that I’d not read before:

“The Nothing ear (1) is a true technological breakthrough, with the first 100 units releasing for the first-time ever via DropX auction. The ultra-lightweight earbuds combine raw beauty and precise engineering for a pure sound experience you need to see and hear to believe. ”

Looks like the ultra-lightweight aspect might be one of the big marketing points for the product. It fits in with technology fading away philosophy.

Archive (bot) I completely agree with the case making a statement. Not only is it recognizable, I think it can be an icebreaker. People who know the brand, will immediately recognize the case, and those who don’t, they can ask what’s that about. 😀

SteveW I believe I’ve read you are using a pair of Shure earphones. That will make for an interesting comparison when you get a pair of ear (1). If not for the sound quality, for the transparent looks.

Updating the auction prices: they climbed a little bit and the highest bid is now sitting at 471€. But here’s a tidbit of information I didn’t know: StockX is also a company backed by GV.

As you can read here, David Krane, CEO and Managing Partner at GV, tweeted that “love it when two GV-backed companies collaborate”. It was retweeted by Carl.

Also, they updated the homepage of the site and it seems the leaks mentioned in the other thread are true, just look at the banner:

After seeing the clear case for the first time I’m really excited to see the product design. Part of the reason I have my current earphones is for their clear design that allows you to see the internal components so this fits right into my tastes.

I think the StockX auction itself is a very interesting thing to see for a product like this. Likely taking inspiration from the “hype” culture that grabs ahold of influential people who need to get their hands on the latest products (Its related to the limited sneaker drops in my mind). I think it’s a great way to spark conversation and as a new brand it’s unbelievably important that the greater population learns your name.

Not only am I excited to hear more about the ear(1) and when I’ll be able to purchase, but also looking forward to seeing the feedback and first reviews.

Since the auction ended a few days ago and today is the official launch, I believe it’s safe to assume the numbers achieved are the final ones.

I checked daily since I opened this thread, and as of now, this is the highest bid:

That’s approximately 7.5x the official retail price here in Europe. 🙃

We know it’s engraved on the case, but I would assume it’s mentioned somewhere else in the paperwork you get.

Perhaps it’s disclosed on the certificate, but that’s also closed and the customer doesn’t want to open it either?

I just checked and 54,815 Yen is around 422 Euros - or 360 Pounds.

Don’t have the box with me (at work right now) but there was a cryptic number on a sticker on the box. Don’t remember exactly what it said but number 38 was written on it. Also there was a paper/certificate from StockX in the parcel with the number 38 on it 🙂

Honestly, I don’t know if I would open them, hihi. If I remember correctly, you also got a retail pair, so this one can be an amazing collectible.

There’s literally only one pair “38” in the world. Just imagine in a few years looking back and see that, it’s a piece of Nothing’s history.
