A bit late, but my thoughts on winner:
When this project was announced I’ve had high hopes that we will see a true community proposal, radically different than model that is in regular production (following original design boundaries, of course). Although I have NP2 and NP1 and don’t need another phone right now, I would gladly dish out cash just to support “the cause”.
I’ve seen some marvelous designs, true to the nature of Nothing philosophy and following general design language (easily applied to original design).
Alas, winner is not of them.
First of all, concept is meh, mildly changed from original design (different case tint) and added “phosphorescent” material. I am maybe too long in wrist watch world, where words “can last for hours”, “functional”, “indicating presence”, “new concept”, etc. are so washed out and overused that they don’t mean anything, it’s mostly marketing bait.
Second, that glow will be only visible if you “charge it” under direct sun for some time, under extra strong artificial light or under ultraviolet light torch. And it have good glow in the dark only if some sort of latest SuperLuminova coatings are used. Everything else will have partial and weak effect. Glow effect will be “effective” for few minutes tops. Everything above that will be too weak to be noticeable. At the end, real difference from original 2a is case tint.
Third, and that’s the thing that bothers me the most:
winners are in commercial business of “creative designs” (they have their own job as creative studio);
winners are, conveniently, London based;
winners registered in Community on the day (and after) project began.
I am sorry but somehow it doesn’t add up to “Community-driven Project” mantra.
To all true Community contributors out there - thank you for some great ideas, I truly enjoyed going through them all !
