From the beginning I love Nothing’s dotted typeface, its uniqueness and elegance really got me, so I tried to search for it and found nothing (tired of these jokes yet?), not a single file or a link. After realising the absence of an official download option, with the help of a friend we looked through the source code of nothing.tech and managed to find a link to the font.
Apparently it is called ‘ndot57’ or ‘Ndot 57’.

It’s a bit different from the font used on the logo as you can see in the following picture, probably to make it look simpler and easier to print on the actual products, but they are using ndot57 everywhere else on the website.

Edit: After going through the source code in more depth, we have found that the reason for this difference is that the logo and ear (1) is written in a slightly altered typeface called ‘ndot55’. Here is the link to it. Note that the file format of ndot55 is .otf, while the format of ndot57 is .ttf.

I’m no legal expert so I am not sure if we can use this typeface freely, or even if Nothing would like it if we were to do so, but I would say that for personal-use, we should be fine. As always, mentioning them as the creator/designer in a footnote or something is the right thing to do, so don’t forget that.

We’ve never really discussed this typeface by the way, or I’ve missed out on it, I don’t know. Either way, what do you think about it? Do you like it? Don’t you feel like it’s a bit cluttered? I personally don’t, but when I showed off Nothing to a friend, she said that the font is a bit hard to read.

I think it is completely readable. It has a special industrial look for sure, but at least it is recognisable. But we are all different.

Anyways, if there is a problem with using or even sharing the typeface, some comment from the Staff Team would be appreciated.

Cheers!

Awesome! Great to finally get the font 😀

Just one request, if you can find out or get the ttf for the not dotted typeface, that would be killer!

Nice insight, dude, thanks for sharing - I love the typeface and how it has been used on the ear (1) packaging - it’s easy to read but has an almost 8bit quality about it - it feels unashamedly techy.

Sure! It seems they are using the regular font of a typeface called ‘letteramonoll’ or ‘LL Lettera Mono’.
Here is the link to it: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0376/5420/0459/t/31/assets/fonts-lettera-mono.woff

The only problem is that the format is .woff, so you can’t install it directly to e.g. Windows, but you can use a converter like CloudConvert to make it a .ttf file. That worked for me. I hope this helps!

Dominic Amazing work, Dominic. Many thanks for sharing your findings.

As someone who spends most of his days looking at fonts (currently using a lovely Georgia, but always a fan of Nunito and Assistant), I do appreciate your efforts. Like many said before, a font can change how you perceive things or even how you create something.

Many times, and this will sound really, really nerdy, I do change fonts to give the doc I am working a new feeling. 🤓

About the ndot, I really like it. At this point, it’s part of Nothing’s identity and it’s charismatic. It also plays really well with their marketing efforts. And I do think they’re being really smart to not overuse it.

PS: I also love the font here on the forums. It’s really clean and a joy to use. 😎

Such a great investigative job @Dominic! If I ever need a PI, I’ll hire you and your friend. 😛

I’ve always struggled with fonts. When doing assignments or having to create a title, a signature or similar, I always faced the same infinite wall: scrolling through tedious lists of fonts to end up using Times New Roman or the one that was already predefined.

Then some time ago I found one called Adobe Caslon Pro and I stuck with it, until I had a tiny lesson from a design teacher, about fonts and how it is more appropriate to use and combine them.

Back to Nothing: since I discovered the logo and the font used here in the forums, I thought that it is the perfect choice; it has personality without being intrusive, it’s recognizable and it has the potential to be, maybe in the future, iconic.

It would be really interesting if we could have the designer(s)/mind(s) behind the typeface explaining the process of creating it, where the idea started, how they developed it, and other insights. 🤓

The typeface is unique and a signature look on larger sizes. But on smaller screen densities and type sizes, this really runs into some trouble and is not legible. I’ve designed Apple Watch apps where this is especially critical and i’m super sensitive to it because every pixel matters. Apple’s SF Compact and Rounded fonts are really great at conveying information in limited space (Apple HIG guidance link).

I think nothing should save ndot57 for trademark moments, and use a more traditional sans that renders well at different pixel densities for body or caption text. I think it will be inevitable that they will need custom variations to make sure these render clean on any screen size or shape. Aesthetics are cool but readability is a huge thing for me and in my experience, many people who use devices at a distance.

Apple accounts for this well and i’ve always appreciated that they accommodate for the difference. Samsung just use out of the box fonts, which ends up in so much wasted space on smaller devices (ESPECIALLY wearOS devices).

Dominic One thing that drew me to the Nothing Phone (apart from my iPhone dying) was the dot matrix theme. It was the same thing that attracted me to some VanMoof e-bikes… just look at this animation…

Does anyone have a backup they can upload directly here?

Dominic Hello! Can you let me know which font the community website uses? It makes up for a great font for body text.
