Security is hilarious.

If I add a quick widget pointing to a calculator on the lockscreen, it asks me to unlock the phone to open the calculator. But I can turn off the phone without providing any credentials.

Haven’t ever used such a phone with improperly implemented security protocols.

But after investing so much money, now I am stuck. So I actively tell people to look at other phones.

      I was just going through my 2a settings and I am thinking I missed 1 important setting which should be there which is

      Required password or pattern to power off

      Which is one of the important thing if your phone get lost or robbed

      So no one can power off your phone and you still can trace the phone

      Suggest me if it’s good or bad idea

      belthur It doesn’t really matter if your phone asks for a PIN/pattern to turn it off while locked. Any Android phone can be restarted from the lock screen by pressing the power button for about 10-15 seconds.

      It would be really interesting to know which phones you used before… 🤔

      Like I said, any Android phone can be forced to restart with a 10-15 second press on the power button. iPhones can also be forced to restart or turn off with a succession of button presses/holds. So don’t even get me started on the “worst security protocols” talk.

      If we’re being realistic and truly concerned about security on our phones, we should request Nothing (maybe Google) to implement PIN/pattern for disconnecting Wi-Fi/mobile and Bluetooth from the lock screen too, via quick settings. This way we can at least make sure that the phone remains connected and traceable, even after a forced reboot.

        palatinagavamsi You can simply switch to OnePlus or Realme devices. They have this option and also you can hide your power button with custom key combinations. Don’t expect anything from these Nothing idiots. They are still fixing the camera since past 3 years.

          My phone was authorized for third-party use. My friend was able to turn off my mobile without any restrictions, even when it was locked. How is this possible? There were no alerts, and my phone did not ask for my password or any authorization. Kindly address this issue in a future update.

          By default it’s off if you want to turn on the feature then go to settings and search require password to power off and then turn it on

            Presently there is no option to prevent turning off of the nothing phone 2a in lockscreen, which is bad in case your phone is lost or stolen. Then you cannot find it. Al the rest of mobiles have this option.

              KeshavNegi actually biometric authentication maybe not but pattern is absolutely a great choice

                Currently, the Nothing Phone 1 does not require a password or any form of authentication to power off the device. This poses a risk in situations where the phone is lost or stolen, as the person who finds or steals the phone can easily turn it off, rendering any tracking or remote access features useless.

                I believe it would greatly enhance the security of the device if Nothing could implement a feature that requires a password to power off the phone. This would prevent unauthorized shutdowns and increase the chances of recovering a lost or stolen phone.
