Community Edition - Stage 3 Submissions Now Closed
Hello, Nothing community! I’m Miguel_KYOTEN. This week I discovered this competition while helping my wife decide on a new phone.
I didn’t participate in the earlier stages, but seeing the results, I couldn’t have done better! The designs are fantastic!
Anyway, before discussing my proposal, let me introduce myself. I’m a web designer, but I dabble in graphic design and printing. I’m familiar with techniques like using inks and UV, which I’ve applied to this packaging design. Right now, I’m looking to start my own business, and winning a stage competition like this would help highlight my portfolio.
Regarding the design, I wanted to maintain the same phone position in the box as the other versions of the Nothing (2a), creating a sense of continuity.
I chose black with fluorescent ink because I think it looks elegant while highlighting this phone’s unique fluorescence. I know it’s a risky colour, but it aims to differentiate itself from the rest of the (2a) from the start—the packaging is the first thing you see. Also, using fewer inks might be more cost-effective to print and, above all, more eco-friendly.
Finally, it really stands out when the lights go out, simulating the effect that @Kenta achieved with their design in the first phase.

Hey uhm my Entry for stage 3 seems not displayed on Gallery i Participated like 3 or 4 days ago and still i can’t seen it there’s only 5 design there and mine is no where to find.

Just uploaded my submission for Stage 3, Packaging Design.
My approach to packaging material is a bit different. People might like to have the same glow material on the packaging but do we really need luminous phosphorescent on the box? People usually after unboxing, tend to throw away the box or keep it inside the cabinet or shelf and it’s never looked at.
Instead of using luminous phosphorescent on the packaging, my concept packaging uses a material that would reveal the phone when the box is exposed to sunlight or any UV light. The phone will gradually appear as soon as the box is exposed to the light.
This material is used in clothing and other products. One example of this is the Nike Air Force 1 UV.

Due to my mother’s eye surgery, I couldn’t focus or give enough attention to the presentation of my concept for the Nothing Phone 2a packaging design. So, I submitted the concept early with whatever came to mind. From here, I have uploaded the concept description in a neat and clear manner. I hope you can easily understand the concept.

Hey @Rob , quick question for you what’s the exact deadline for stage 3 of the packaging? I noticed that your newsroom points to June 21st, but the application form still shows there are 10 days left until the deadline, which would make it June 24th. Thanks a ton for clearing this up!

My submission has been accepted, here is my work-
The colours are going to look plain on a computer, but, I can assure you, it’s going to look good on the packaging material.
the above pictures were for the black phone and now the white.
( I am not sure if there rare going to be two colors for this phone, but for time being, I have given two colours )

We really dove deep into the development process. Here’s a sneak peek 
A Microworld of Bioluminescence Unveiled: Linking Technology and Biology
Like a diorama in real size, a microworld of bioluminescence to explore, viewed in a Petri dish like under a microscope, made up of fascinating natural bioluminescent animal organisms (zooplankton) and plant organisms (phytoplankton), which together represent the invisible biological chemical energy that allows the phone 2a to light up without the need for anything else.
We conceived the packaging of the phone 2a not just as a wrapper, but as an opportunity for storytelling, transforming it into a work of art to be appreciated every day. We designed it to be very discreet during the day, maintaining the product’s design visibility, while revealing its magical side at night. We designed it to be kept on display like a small piece of art, enjoying its nighttime magic. This way, the packaging offers visual storytelling and aesthetic exploration, going beyond the pure functionality of the phone.
Process
Our project is the result of the previous two phases (phase 1 hardware and phase 2 wallpaper design), and it seems that these phases have led us exactly in the direction identified:
1. Phase 1 - Hardware: The design of the phone 2a, with the perfectly circular camera area, recalls the appearance of a Petri dish used in laboratories for microscopic analysis. This element became an opportunity to tell the science of bioluminescence engagingly.
2. Phase 2 - Wallpapers: The winning design, made of tubes and transparent connections, evokes both the tech world of connections and the chemical laboratory environment. The glass transparencies allow one to see the contents of the test tubes, here represented by the inflow of bioluminescent plankton that “feed” the phone, passing through the serpentine circuit of the phosphorescent pattern, creating a visual link between technology and biology.
