A Nothing “Small” version in my opinion is a must have device in an industry where consumers are pushed to purchase larger phones becoming more & more addicted to their phones.

The potential future small Nothing (0) features:

  • Between 5.4″ & 5.7″ screen

  • Advanced energy-efficient screen

  • Modern energy-efficiency based processor with 5G

  • Better than industry standard long-term security, OS, software support

  • Innovative solid-state battery

  • A singular but really good camera

  • Priced Fairly - though I mainly created this post fundamentally for the inclusion of a smaller device, considering the investment into R&D of the “Small”, naturally pricing it would be your volition but it would be great if it was on par to Apple’s original SE & Mini or even the Nothing Phone (1) for that matter.

Caveats:

  • Battery - by the time R&D is finalised for the “Small” version I strongly believe solid-state batteries especially for smaller based devices would be more apparent in the industry as opposed to significantly higher amperage & voltage based solutions for EVs, so I think it would be available option for the “Small” Nothing (0) phone.

  • The Zenphone 10 by Asus has shown to be quite compelling in the past & present but in my opinion what they did wrong was deliver a really compelling product with most if not all the features of much larger phones & it can also be recognized in the pricing such as implementing edge solutions, i.e larger battery, 5.9″ screen, larger cameras & not forgetting the leading edge processor by Qualcomm which is the Snapdraggon 8 Gen 2. I mean what were they thinking? I think it’s just too powerful & unnecessary of a processor & feel free to disagree with me but I feel the next best thing from MediaTek would have been great.

  • The iPhone Mini was such a great option & honestly still is but they don’t share the same principals as Nothing but to be quiet honest not many companies do, which is why I think a solution from Nothing would be such a brilliant product offering in the market. The Mini’s sales for iPhone was said to have floundered but that was only in comparison to it’s larger phones, fact of the matter is, they sold millions which to them & industry analysts isn’t great enough which is ridiculous. Apple’s “Mini” based users honestly appreciate their phones more & there are still many mini 12 & mini 13 & even SE users that haven’t upgraded their phones at all.

  • Unihertz also offer a mini phone option and they’re great, their sales are also good, however, one thing in my opinion detrimental about them is they arguably don’t provide long enough support for their products & services which when it comes to security, it could be seen as a negative especially as their users get attached to their products. Unlike the American counterparts I’m not as judgemental towards Chinese companies; I think a lot of them are great, however because of the cultural barrier unfortunately a lot of things can be confused in translation & I feel coming to the western market & exploding with prosperity can be seen as difficult for them when it comes to traditional consumer based solutions, the phone market being a classic example of this, though it does seem to be slowly changing.

Closing remarks:

I’ve created a similar topic on other phone manufacture forums & honestly, no joke, the desire for a smaller phone is great. I wouldn’t lie but here are some of the stats that I recorded from one other popular global phone manufacturers forum should you actually contemplate this -

If you were to collate all the stats pertaining to a mini based mobile phone from x forum community, it has garnered well over 8000 views, well over 170 likes and well over a 130 replies. Which may not sound like a lot but you can ask your team that from a competing Android based device that is huge. This company has been existence since 2018 I think & the first post regarding a “small” phone appeared on their forum in July of 2021, the post after that being created in July of 2022 and my post being the last one having no foresight of there ever being a post which I wanted to create in July 2023 but posted this month of August of 2023; so honestly, every year since the release of x phone on Sep 2020, users & people in general having genuinely been desiring a compact phone, again, not necessarily with bells & whistles & certainly not like the top tier Samsung S’twenties’ with Snapdragon 8 Gens, but just the design aesthetics & principal of the Nothing brand.

In one holiday season it was reported that Apple sold 40 million iPhone 13 units, in addition, I think this report was in reference to the introduction of the iPhone 13 to (i think) the full quarters end that it intended to sell 300 million units at the end of the fiscal or general years end 2022, 300 million units! I think the SE & the Mini stats should be combined (based on the idea of a small phone argument) previous reports suggest sales were around 10%, however, both models weren’t phased out, they continue to sell them officially. In dollar terms & taking the cost of the cheapest non SE version phone, 300 million units would account to just under 165 billion, divide that by 10 (10%) would give you a sum of just over 16 billion. Regardless of the fact the Mini and SE accounted for a smaller number of sales in comparison to the couple of inches larger phones, it still did sell, it still does sell & it is still appreciated by Apple users and non Apple users.

I would so love to purchase a smaller Nothing phone, maybe one through Murena as well to see how their /e/OS works at some point. I’d appreciate some insight from Carl if he’s available through this platform or maybe even a youtube video to discuss why it simply isn’t a viable option because literally every other phone manufacturer that I’ve discussed this with the exception of Apple because they’re so uptight simply won’t consider it.

Best regards

I’d love to see a Nothing Phone (0) in the future with the 2 key factors of being small and affordable too. These wanted specs for that Nothing (0) would definitely be awesome.

The real problem would be the competition. If Nothing makes a small phone why would a commoner buy IT rather than other attractive phones like (Asus zenfones, Samsung flips, Iphone minis).

As of now Its a Nothing Phone and a Small Phone, which are not massively successful mass market products.

So making a phone for people in a set of small phone Enthusiasts from a set of Nothing Enthusiasts is not a profitable and efficient idea for now.

But I personally would love a Small and compact Nothing phone.(My fav Phones rn in market are ASUS Zenfone 10 and Nothing phone 2, if you put these 2 together then what more could I ask for.)

I would love a “small” screen Nothing phone!
Imho something between 6.1 and 6.3 would be perfect.
In facts the only thing is holding me to buy a Nothing Phone 2 is its dimensions.

If I was forced to buy a phone today I would go for the Zenfone 9 because it is a compact flagship (not the 10 – I’m not prepared to pay for wireless charging, and 8+ Gen 1 is sufficient). I don’t accept that smaller phones should have less power and features, and evidentially it’s not necessary to. The reason I have been hesitant to invest is because I haven’t been hands-on with the Zenfone 9 to see how I feel about the smaller display (gaming, etc).

A compact (1) would be a welcome proposition that I would be willing to travel to the London store to look at.

I should probably apologise as there is another post that was created related to a smaller phone last year but it wasn’t nor is it noticeable. Community site could be great improved. Perhaps a separate page allowing use to simply push simple ideas of improve would be good (I did read the community guidelines 🙂, however, in my defence they were more specific to screen size - nothing.community/d/718-smaller-handset-6-ish

I came from iPhone 13 to a Phone 2, in absolutely love with it.

However, I don’t need a big size screen at all, and Phone 2 is bigger than the iPhone pro max series or Galaxy S ultra series.

Would it be possible for us to have options to have smaller screens around 5 inch or 6 inch?

I would upgrade to it without a single thought even though it gets more expensive.

I cannot agree more. We need a smaller nothing. Being forced to buy 6.7 inch is a bit disappointing.

Standard Galaxy / iPhone models start around 6 inches. There is a reason.

I strongly agree and support this idea. I’m looking for smartphones with 5 inches bezel less display for myself and for my mom. This kinda phone grabs a lot of people who likes to keep their mobile lite, small and minimalistic weight and dimensions. My mom always ask me for small and lite weight phone. I think this will work out with many parents especially mom’s.

hi. i havent moved from apple because i love the smaller form factor of the iphone 13 mini. i have been android longer than i have been with apple. i really like what your company is doing and i love the design of your products. there are some that do not like these huge phones and i am one of them. if you guys made a 6 inch phone, i would leave apple in a heartbeat. thanks

Merged 1 post from Make a smaller phone please..

i would be happy to pay the same price as a nothing 2 if this phone was made. 6 inches is perfect for me.

Support support support. For years I’ve been wanting a phone that’s in the 5.9 to 6.1 inch screen size category that when bought would not break my bank account. Can understand why companies go for the bigger screen options especially in the budget to mid-range options as the market prefers that feature. But Nothing as a company that caters to and respects the opinions of its community/Enthusiasts is the closest chance we can get to convey our desire. The majority of the tech enthusiasts that I’ve talked to conveyed their desire to own a compact flagship or midrange compact phone. We kind of go with other options just because we can’t find a good compact one with decent specs (excluding the display) in the market. The closest option would be the Asus Zenfone lineup which is sadly not officially available in India(Where I’m from). If there’s even a tiny chance Nothing would consider this in the future. I and a lot of tech enthusiasts will be eternally grateful to Nothing. If this post reaches anywhere I would like to pitch in some reasonable specs for that compact phone. Fingers crossed.

It would be amazing to get mini version, maybe even like a limited drop. Probably you know the market much better but imagine Nothing 2.5 in mini version?! That would be killer. Remember time when Sony had the compact line or Iphone mini line, Zenphone etc. Like one big lens camera, very good battery, 120hz screen, good processor. and put it around 350 euros like real value phone. Think it would shake the market and bring Nothing more heat. I am overwhelmed with big phones tbh.

I use iphone 13 mini. And I fell in love with the Nothing phone 1. If only it was more compact. You have to make a Nothing phone 1, but the size of the iPhone 13 mini would be luxurious. The main thing is that there is a fingerprint in the display. I miss that on the iPhone.

Hi Carl.. I an thinking about upgrading my Mid range Samsung M31 to Asus Zenfone 10 due to its small form factor but with powerful specs. Since Asus sell Zenfone 10 not sold in India. I am looking for other options. I don’t want another Samsung or Expensive Apple. Except Camera in Iphone i don’t find anything works for me being an Android user. So i am looking for some phone with is small compact with Excellent Camera with good battery life. If you see this message. Are you able to produce a phone with small form factor for Indians. I am looking for a phone which is pocket friendly and i can use it in single hand like Asus Zenfone 10. Can anyone from Nothing team pass this message to Carl Pei or Nothing Phone development team about my request. Thank you

Daniel changed the title to Compact Nothing Phone .
