Applications are now open!
Apply here.
For those that are new, the Community Board Observer (CBO) role was created to ensure that our community is represented at the highest level within Nothing. Now entering its fourth year, the Observer’s responsibilities are to monitor sentiment, engage with people across our platforms and to help us bridge the gap between company and community. The CBO role is always held by someone just like you, a community member.
Every year, we open up applications so any of our members can apply to become the next CBO. Then, when applications close, we hold an election, allowing our members to vote for their favourite shortlisted candidate, the person with the most votes gets the role!
@RohitPakalapati has been representing you all for the past 12 months, attending quarterly Board meetings with Nothing’s senior leadership team and board members. He also interviewed Nothing staff members such as Tim Holbrow and Mladen Hoyss, attended the Phone (2a) launch in India, spoke about community projects in monthly company-wide meetings, and hosted the Community Insight Series to help our teams gain insights from our members. Since Rohit has now reached the end of his tenure, it’s almost time to open up applications once again - on behalf of the whole Nothing team, we’d like to thank him for all his hard work this year!
So, which of you will be elected into this prestigious position for 2025? Read on for all the information. Plus, you can drop any questions you have below this thread and we’ll answer some of them in an upcoming livestream. Stay tuned for more details on this.
What are the CBO’s duties?
Proactively seek to bridge the Nothing brand and the community - this could include engaging with Nothing’s software and product teams to share community feedback, or opening up discussions with the community to gain deeper insights.
Be active, approachable and recognisable, engaging with members across all our online community platforms and social media.
Be available as a community spokesperson, representing the community voice at events, monthly internal company meetings and video shoots, as required.
Attend quarterly Board meetings. This involves preparing meeting notes a couple of weeks in advance, and presenting community sentiment towards products, launches, and anything else of note over the previous quarter to our Board of Directors.
After each Board meeting, the CBO will record a video and write a post to inform our members about the topics they discussed in the meeting.
You should apply if:
You are an active member of the Nothing Community.
You have a good level of spoken and written English.
You are comfortable with presenting, both online and in-person.
You can commit to attending four Board meetings across 2025 - these are likely to take place towards the end of January, April, July, and October. Exact dates and times will be confirmed with the elected CBO.
You are willing to travel for Board meetings (expenses paid). Note: If you are based very far away from a Board meeting location, you can attend virtually. We will also arrange a trip to our London office at least once during your time as CBO.
You are a great communicator, diplomatic and balanced, and enjoy creating content.
You are a good team player, and enjoy collaboration. You will be working with the community team, brand team, and other team members at Nothing, including our community moderators.
You care about the Nothing community and are committed to amplifying our members voices.
You are over 18 years old and willing to sign an NDA. You will get privileged insight into the most exciting things happening backstage, so commitment to secrecy is key.
The application process:
Applications will open on 13th November at 5:30pm GMT. A link to an application form will be added to this post here on nothing.community. Take some time to think about your answers before submitting.
Applications will close on 25th November at 11am GMT.
The Nothing team will then review all applications, and invite shortlisted candidates to a 30 minute interview with a member of Nothing’s leadership team. These interviews will take place between 2nd - 5th December.
Successful candidates will be put forward for community voting, which will take place here on nothing.community. They will need to record a 1 minute video and write a 200 word statement, to help the community decide who to vote for. Voting will be open for 1 week.
Once the voting period is over, the candidate with the most votes will become the next Community Board Observer!
An individual member can occupy this role for up to 3 years consecutively, however, they must apply and be elected according to the process outlined above each year.
Please keep in mind that this position is not a full time job. It is a voluntary role for those looking to raise the voice of our community. It gives you the chance to represent our members, engage with our leadership team and help bridge the gap between company and community.
