i think that the worst part about this is that if nothing lied here by not telling anything about the ES limit, they are probably going to continue doing this in the future. Kind of a bummer, because I am liking my NP (2a) plus and the glyph interface is amazing, but probably I am going to switch brand if this is going to continue

samthemingo

seems like you can disable but not reassign, and it would need root status.

and 3(a) users weren´t charged and are not being technically charged at the moment. So maybe my statement from before is a bit misleading.

samthemingo you need to disable the Essential Recorder app too

That kills the screenshot function

Annoyingly the phone still wakes when the button is pressed, but I need to see if a restart fixes that (can’t do it right now as out)

I use Shizuku and Hail to do this. Can all be done on device with wireless ADB

Looks like Essential Space has its own ‘space’ issues—limited and running out faster than my phone’s battery! - BTW Phone(2) User Here 🗿

Rob ⚡️ what will the company do to resolve this current issue? let us remap the button?

JJJayYu You can already remap it if you disable these two apps via ADB:

Essential Space, and Essential Recorder - then use a button remapper app

Annoyingly the button still wakes the device after remapping

Mmmm yes that may seem to be the case. But it would also be nice if nothing implements a remap on their own without any 3rd part software

Sirefe The usage limits are fair and shouldn’t be a blocker for purchasing. AI processing is expensive and, they need to apply limits that don’t block the normal user but, do limit heavy use. I’d suggest 300 essential space credits user per month is significant use of the app - that’s around 9-10 uses of the app everyday.

hrry Any amount would have been fair if they had said this before releasing it.

But now, not even a single penny would be considered “fair” for the “essential space” they use to sell the 3a series.

JJJayYu Nothing says ES is still experimental and that they’re evaluating usage and adoption of ES by users. Do you think that those questions make sense in this experimental period? Take it easy and wait. Early adoption of products always comes with some risk attached.
I’m pretty sure that there is a very low number of users that really needs AI to help remember every single thing. I suffer from ADHD and I should know how hard it is to forget stuff…

hrry Wait, that’s actually pretty fair and it resets every month? you know what.. I take everything I said, now that you gave this numbers I will save and screenshot this statement and keep it just in case. Glad you communicated this.

Just wanting to confirm, these credits reset every month.. right? right??

JJJayYu I understand your frustration too. It seems that the actual limit was disclosed above by hrry and to me it seems quite decent considering the price of the phones (3a and 3a Pro) and that AI systems cost a lot of money to build and maintain. It’s obvious that these limits should have been announced before but it seems to me that Nothing didn’t predict that some users would actually go “crazy”, using it 30 times a day.

They should apologize to customers for the lack of transparency and manipulation. They should do it immediately, and should remove any restrictions on essential space. That’s the only way they can restore the damaged trust with customers.

hrry Then Nothing should have been more transparent in this regard:

          • There was no indication for a limit in any of the product videos
          • There is no mention of any limitation when viewing the product pages of both (3a) phones
          • There isn’t even a possible limit mentioned all the way in the footnotes nobody usually ever reads

Nothing always claims to be a transparent, customer and community focused company, they easily could have been more open about a possible limit. Also many people and thus buyers don’t know about AI processing and why should they? They are buying a product based on the features listed. There’s also no limit to the amount of photos and videos a user can take or on the voice recorder, so why should tech unsavvy Joe and Jane Average expect one for the Essential Space?

If you’re selling a phone with a physical dedicated button, features associated to that button can’t honestly be paid services …

If you do it, you’ll lose me as a future nothing customer

hrry Wait, what do you mean AI processing is expensive, isn’t it being done on phone itself? If not then what was the point in advertising, that snapdragon 7s gen 3 has more AI processing power then dimensity 7200? And what is the problem then to add essential space to all other nothing phones if all the AI isn’t being done on the phone?

I can not believe, that they are ignoring this issue. I was thinking that they are different than others companies. This treatment which we are getting from them is giving me nothing to hope in regards all positive thing they done. Please Nothing, address this issue to community in good trust and prove that you are better than this or you will lose are trust. Without trust there is nothing left.
