DuckRogers I know, and I have nothing against that, other icons are great, that umbrella is cute and nice and it fits better than clouds for example (every weather app has clouds 😁), but this gallery one simply sticks out like it doesn’t belong there. It’s like it was designed by totally different person who didn’t even see anything from other iconography. The old one is superior.

Edit: Again, thicker lines like it’s a photo from Polaroid, and not a weird phone (with thin bezzels + massive chin bezel) and it will be fine. This one is just way too thin.

All phone companies are doing the same thing over and over again. While Nothing withstands to bring inovations and very flexible user experience.

Small changes are important and we should encourage them! Because they bring phones that it serves to people and not phones where people are a servant of a phone.

I like this 3a update but the feedbacks are:

*OS is bit slower

*Redesigned status bar is missing in this update

*Haptics are missing. Still needed for volume control and other areas

*New Volume slider Redesign

*Lockscreen Clock color customisation and custom text adding features

*New Ringtones and notification tones(if possible)

*New Animations all over the system.

*Improve the Notifications. Like we can stack or hide the notifications in the lockscreen and also grouping of notifications.

The features we’ve received so far feel a bit different from what was described as “worth the wait.”

Lock Glimpse
I don’t mind new features, but I chose Nothing mainly for its no-bloatware philosophy. This one honestly feels a bit like an ad pop-up. (My mom’s previous Realme device had a similar feature, which is why I decided to get her a CMF phone instead.)

App Icon Redesign
Overall, I think most of the new icons look clean and distinct — I actually like the new direction. The only exception for me is the Gallery icon, which feels a bit too simplified. Still, I appreciate the unique touches, like using an umbrella for the Weather app instead of another cloud.

Overall Thoughts
I’m still observing where Nothing is heading design-wise. I do hope to see more customization options in the future — for example, allowing us to adjust the size of existing clock styles on the lock screen, or making Nothing’s own widgets resizable beyond the fixed 2×2 (maybe 2×6?).

Just sharing some personal thoughts as a user who really values the brand’s design and overall philosophy.

Maggi Goreng The Essential Key in the Nothing Phone is a great idea, but I feel it still has huge untapped potential. As a Nothing 3a Pro user, I’ve realized how useful that button can be in daily use — it’s smooth, accessible, and functional. However, Nothing’s software developers should really take the next step by allowing full customization with new smart features. Imagine using it to trigger routines, open specific apps, switch modes, or control AI shortcuts. That would truly make the Essential Key live up to its name — essential. It’s already a solid addition, but with some creative software updates, it could become one of Nothing’s most iconic features

BUT:

I was excited for Lock Glimpse as I love fresh wallpapers, but I was very disappointed to see it was basically an advert that clutters your lockscreen and most categories result in really ugly pictures (a tube of toothpaste in a bathroom? come on), and even when disabling the left swipe to read more, you STILL HAVE THE ADVERT TEXT. Sad to se bloatware get introduced camouflaged as a “feature”.

KeertanSalian When updating to OS 4 you don’t lose anything .. but if you want to go back to OS 3, it does a full factory reset. As if you got the phone newly purchased. So if you encounter any annoying bugs and want to opt out of the beta, make sure you do a full backup of the phone.

The only way to upgrade or downgrade the existing OS is to replace it, so you go from Nothing OS to Lineage OS for example. If you go from Lineage OS to Lineage OS, or iOS to iOS, or Windows to Windows… That’s all an update.
