On OS 3.5, the Always-On Glyph Toy (the clock in my case) would always display the time regardless of whatever action I took. This has now been updated on OS 4.0 so that it only does that if the screen is facing down (Flip to Glyph mode). It will turn off if I pick up or otherwise change the phone’s position to something that’s not lying face down, e.g., if it is slanted.
While it is true that this prevents the glyph showing through pockets as advertised in the OS 4.0 release notes, I actually preferred the old behavior. I would often take my phone out for a quick time peek, or keep it slanted (ca. 45 degrees) in the gym against a wall in the floor, using it as my small “temporary stand” clock (that does not work as well if it’s locked to only work face down).
I understand the update, but I’d like to request a switch/toggle option to allow the old behavior described here to also be available as well. I do not agree with completely removing the old behavior and replacing it for this one, especially since it is such a special feature that stands out in the phone. I’d like it to always stand out, as it was doing up to very recently, whenever I want it to do that. A toggle just makes more sense for this.
I hope others agree with this view. Seems like it’d be a fairly small effort fix for the dev team as well.
Thanks.
