  • It will be released in March, not on March 1st. It probably will have the Nothing OS 3.1 and the 3a series will be available from March 11 so I guess we’ll see it after

  • “In relation to camera performance, the focus is now on optimising upcoming devices, but Carl mentioned a new camera tuning method they’re using, which, if improvements are made, may be able to be rolled out to the current device line-up in future too.”

Does “May be rolled out to the current device line up” imply that there is a possibility that we might not see any updates to the camera performance?

  • Hello,

I am a Nothing Phone 2 user since December 2023 and I am really happy with the experience I am getting from the Nothing Phone 2 in terms of the OS and I truly appreciate the Nothing team for working on providing us with the best experience.

    1. App drawer:

I want Nothing OS to have no app drawer. Since there are a plethora of widgets, I want the applications and the widgets to merge and work in harmony. Imagine a home screen that can be swiped to multiple screens and each screen has their own theme which includes necessary apps and widgets working together. This can auto adjust with the help of AI, just as the new app drawer works.

For example - Having a first page as a necessary page with date, time, search, calendar and such widgets as well as necessary quick tiles such as wifi and mobile data and Glyph torch. We swipe to access a social media page where we have all social media apps, as well as the chat gpt widgets and such information. Further swipe lands us on the games tab with all the available games which also has the snake game widget and a quick toggle to access the game mode and colour plus options.

    2. Touch sounds:

Implement touch sounds for a more intuitive experience and giving a necessary haptic on every touch.

    3. Status bar:

Turning the status bar translucent, giving us access to the entire screen on the device instead of a black block on the top of the screen for most applications.

    4. Glyph Interface:

We need additional Glyph Interface updates and implementation on further system activity.

For example - The bottom Glyph lights up whenever we unlock our device. Also, futher improving the music visualization option for better understanding with the help of AI.

Further, while the Glyph SDK was really helpful for developers, it did not really change the experience for casual users. Therefore, we can open the Glyph Composer app for developers to provide their very own Glyph tiles and also connect the app with a library of readily available Glyph Ringtones and notifications for users to download and enable.

    5. Camera:

The camera on the nothing phones is highly capable and it works really really nicely for most cases, but there is a very clear inconsistency in the camera department. The photos are mostly over exposed which is very evident in backlit images and make the photos look artificial after processing.

While the Ultra XDR option is really good, it does not work on Selfies or the Portrait mode. The portrait mode seems to have much less processing than the Photo made making the pictures look a bit worse than the Photo mode. Also, the camera application itself is really heavy and it doesn’t work smoothly, the Ultra wide and 1x zoom have massive colour shifts.

Also, Nothing Phone 2a Plus and CMF phone 1 have AI Vivid camera modes but no other device has this mode.

I hope these inconsistencies are addressed and there are clear steps towards fixing these issues to ensure a much better camera experience.

    6. Nothing as a brand:

Finally, this does not really have much to do with the OS but the Brand as a whole, as there seems to be a disconnect between the brand and the consumers. I understand that the brand has set some specific goals for the future but it seems that there are many issues which consumers are facing and it does not seem to be readily addressed. These include battery issues, display problems on phone 2a, etc. I believe that there needs to be a mediation for consumers to learn if these issues are being worked upon or not.

I want to finish up by saying that I am not a tech person so I am not really sure how and if such changes can be implemented but these are some of my ideas on how the Nothing OS can give a more customised experience to everyone.

I really enjoy my Nothing Phone 2 and I am really looking forward to where this OS and this brand moves, going forward to the future.

  • The software has been a joy to use but I have felt that the Glyphs seem to be stalling now and there have been no significant updates to the Glyphs since the 2.5 update, almost a year ago.

Also, the camera performance is not that bad in most scenarios but one thing I really do not enjoy is that different photo modes are not performing similarly. The Portrait mode has significantly lower quality images and does not implement the Ultra XDR feature. The consistency in camera performance needs to be addressed.

  • vovan-v it is a really capable camera with great software but it’s extremely inconsistent and feel like a one hit wonder. If they make it consistently perform, it’ll be amazing.

  • I understand that there already are many complaints for the Nothing Camera but these are the pictures of the Nothing Phone 2 camera in my room.

This is with Nothing OS 3.0 beta (same in 2.6 and before that)

The photos look cartoonish when there is a light source in the viewfinder. I mean this is just unacceptable, these phones have been here for more than 2 years and most people are not going out to take pictures in accurate lighting.

I really really hope Nothing addresses the camera because this is supposed to be their flagship, they’ve had many phones now to even if not perfect, but atleast make them acceptable. But this is just horrendous

  • Anonymous297 I absolutely agree with this post. One of the biggest point being 90 fps support for Pubg/BGMI which Nothing has no control over, Krafton can give the feature but people kept on filling the community tabs all over.

But I will say that there’s definitely a lack of communication from the brand and the way they handle things. For example, one of the biggest issues with Android 14 was the huge battery drain. While the whole android was hit with that, nothing has just got some of the worst of it. As a brand, we’ve heard a million times that this issue was brought up in meetings but nothing came out of it (pun intended). Also, the weird issue of features being present on one phone but not on others, like the Phone 2 does not have the camera widget, which is present on other phones, the CMF phone has Vivid mode in camera app but the Nothing phones don’t.

I can understand that it may not be something that everyone wants but they have already developed it so why isn’t it present in all phones. Also, the weird phone update process, they prioritise the newer phone which is understandable but if I paid 500 USD for a phone, I will definitely feel betrayed when a 150 USD or 200 USD device is being prioritised.

The communication from the brand needs to be better but they are really doing some great work and I am here for the journey.

  • It does the same to me too, but I don’t see any reason to login, everything is already accessible.
