Hey there,

It’s me again with another redesign. This time around I picked the Nothing’s own Weather app, which already has the Nothing-esque design language. However, even though it looks like an app Nothing would design, it still isn’t as good as a Weather app.

The problems:

These are some of the things that I felt are missing/wrong with the current app.

  1. You need to look hard to find the basic info. Basically, text is unreadable at a glance.
  2. Whole app feels more like a wrapper. None of the info block/widget gets you anywhere. (Except, the AQI one to a webpage from AccuWeather)
  3. Have 2 widgets for AQI.
  4. No way to search a different location. You’ll have to add it first, then view weather info.
  5. Just one weather provider.
  6. No quick switch between weather info of saved locations.

The Redesign:

Here I present you what I feel would make more sense as a weather app on Nothing OS, without deviating much from the original design language.

1. Homescreen:

2. Fullscreen/Secondary Screen:

3. Search Page

End note:

Currently, I have focused only on the layout of home screen and secondary screen, while the search screen is more like a WIP concept. I am hoping, I’d complete the redesign, If I get more time to work on this.

Until then, what do you think about this redesign? I’d love to hear your thoughts or get some feedback to improve it.

And if you have missed my previous redesign, you can check them out below;

PS: I do appreciate Nothing’s current weather app, and I get that they’re going for the minimal look. But I feel a weather app is more about providing information clearly.

Here is a video of a quick prototype of how everything goes together in current state. (It isn’t perfect, but you’ll get the idea)

    23 days later

I just wish there was an option in Nothing weather app, to change from AccuWeather to like any other regional weather station app, like the ones we have in Sweden, because not only do they show a more accurate location, it also show a more accurate temperature than AccuWeather, i know its a minor thing, and since i like the nothing weather app and its design, i wish to stay with it and not use other weather apps 🙂

Sonixxone Agreed, AccuWeather isn’t accurate most of the time. If not the local weather providors, the weather app could have more options to choose from. So that user can choose the one that’s offer the most accurate information for their regions.

anoobav Yeah exactly, i would really love that option in the weather app, to be able to choose other stations, we can hope that they can fix it in future updates

anoobav This redesign is so good! It would be great if the weather app was something more than a wrapper on AccuWeather. On top of those changes I would like to see an option to switch the weather data provider and integration with Netatmo weather stations. I hope this isn’t asking too much.

I like the amount of effort you’ve gone to here in identifiying the problems you face, and how you would tackle/design them differently. I think the biggest thing I’d like to be able to do with my weather app is to be able to assign a different provider to it. I agree with other comments around AccuWeather, and I’d like to be able to change that to something that’s more accurate to my location.

        Thanks for your kind words.
Indeed, it is one of the major pain points of the current Nothing’s weather app. Hopefully, we get to see an improved weather app from Nothing in future.
