Subtle_Participant01 I forgot to add that, and you are absolutely right! This was a total bummer. V 3.0 did nothing. Just utterly sad.

For context, I have moved from the Phone (2a) to the Plus version of this series. My main bone to pick with Nothing is, how is a more premium series of a phone worse than the original one. Like something is seriously lacking in the Phone (2a) Plus. I don’t know about others but I can talk for myself when I say that as a customer I can’t help but feel scammed. Right off the box the UI on the Phone (2a) Plus is more glitchy than the Phone (2a). Imo the Phone (2a) feels better to use. I don’t even want to talk about the camera on the Phone (2a) Plus, I personally hate opening the camera app itself. As much as I am a fan of the brand and what they are doing in the market, I lost my cool as soon as I clicked my first few pictures on the phone. Just pathetic. Progressively my experience with the camera only got worse.
Selfies started to look like some kind of painting. I like the way my face looks, why is there a need to process the photo post click to make me look like something out of an animation. When I went to the service center to rectify this, I showed a side by side comparison of pictures from the Phone (2a) Plus and the Phone (2a). There was a world of difference in skin tone, clarity and even focus. A 32MP front camera was doing better than the brand new 50MP camera. If you think the back camera is alright, I’m sorry to tell you, it’s worse. Random color corrections on the face, and some kind of weird pixellation issues.
The Phone (2a) Plus struggles with basic focus on the front camera, the phone needs to be at a certain distance while taking a selfie to even get a decent picture without focus issues. And even if the focus is right, the processing as I mentioned earlier makes faces look horrible.
After a painstaking wait of 4 hours at the service center, which included rebooting (factory reset and OS Updating) my phone, nothing changed, so I received a new piece even after me telling them that I was sure it wasn’t a software issue but an issue with the hardware. Now I have a new Phone (2a) Plus piece which is just as bad on the camera and UI side.
The Nothing Phone (2a) Plus had me wishing I had never upgraded within the first week of usage itself. Again there are cheaper phones in the market that fulfill the basic criteria of clicking decent pictures.
I made a personal choice last year to sacrifice performance on my previous phone for aesthetic appeal on the Phone (2a) first and then the Phone (2a) Plus later. But now after using the Phone (2a) Plus I am frantically trying to re-sell and get this phone out of my hand.
I understand the arguments about mid range phones and I probably would never have known the difference between the two if I hadn’t used the Phone (2a) first. Would have probably thought, wow the camera is just that bad (maybe the Phone (2a) also has a bad camera).
I have raised multiple concerns on the community page and I have seen many other users with similar issues and no re-assuring answers for the same.
Finally making a decision to upgrade to a better phone with much better features. AND ONE THAT ATLEAST HAS A CHARGER IN THE BOX.
Link of issues I have flagged on the community but in vain:

Found another issue with my current nothing phone (2a) plus unit. I have a song I want to use as ringtone, but the moment I make it the ringtone the sound of the audio considerably reduces. Whereas when played normally the sound is perfect.
If anyone has a solution please let me know.
Severe concerns with the Nothing Phone (2a) Plus Front Camera

Also personally writing this as a service to those who are looking to upgrade to the Phone (2a) Plus during the recent sales. Please don’t. They’re almost similar in prices 3-4k difference, but compared to the Phone (2a), the Phone (2a) Plus is a disappointingly bad phone in terms of camera experience.
is a better option then to just move to a better phone? because this is starting to feel like a lost battle. My hype for the Phone (2a) Pls got over as soon as I clicked a picture on it. Facepalm moment when I realized I should have waited till I actually got to try the phone in hand before purchasing it. Really make me feel like the novelty of liking and supporting the brand and their products are gimmicky, with no attention to detail.
Does anyone know when they are rolling out their new update for the camera?
Being a fan of nothing phone for a while now, I upgraded from the 2a to the 2a Plus. Both front and back camera qualities are offensively bad. You can’t help but feel scammed thinking that you got a better and upgraded phone from the 2a. There has been no positive response about any good upgrades to the camera on the 2a Plus and I’ve tried almost every app on the market to optimise the camera on this phone. It’s just that bad. I am more so annoyed with the selfies as they are almost always out of focus. I’ve seen many threads with people sharing the same concerns but no positive response from the team for the same, making you wonder what the purpose of these discussion forums are.
vovan-v to be very honest the true to life color and focus was miles apart on the NP2a even with a 32MP on the front cam. The NP2aP has some kind of focus issue with selfies (which is really super annoying, when you sell a product as an upgraded version of the NP2a). I hope that it gets covered through update but I’m not entirely sure. I personally feel they severely missed something when going for the Samsung censor for the selfie cam on the NP2aP.
Go for Kapaver, they are a brand that parallels Spigen and Nillkin and their cases are of superior quality. The nothing (company provided) case starts yellowing after a while.

It’s sad to see that you take fans of the company for absolute crackers. First off, seriously what are you guys on about, ‘The hole is there to counteract the negative pressure…….’ what a load. After doing a bit of searching on my end, I am more annoyed now that the team themselves don’t know what the hole with the mesh is for.
For anyone curious like me, and a real sucker for meaningful aesthetic just check out a jerryrigseverything video or this one which was a better look at what the hole was about:
THE HOLE IS JUST FOR AESTHETICS and does not serve any purpose. Trying to cook up a reasoning on it for customers is just truly sad.
I have the same issue with this processing. Looks so bad. Like someone said. There are some of us who like how we look. There should be a way to turn this off. Is there no one who can help with it? The phone 2a was atleast better, on the 2a plus (or I’m not sure if it’s after an upgrade), it just looks so fake.
After using both recently here are a few things that absolutely annoyed me. I own the ear (a).
EQ
You’d assume that for paying more you’d get more features and the earphone would be better. You’re wrong. Lol. Only the Basic Equalizer provided for the Ear (a) whereas the cmf buds come with a full range of better customisable sound and even AI (DIRAC) optimised sound for a better listening experience.
Design:
Sorry but this seems to be the only plus with the ear (a). Cmf buds don’t come close.
Eartips:
I personally don’t like that the ear (a) eartips feel more plasticy. The cmf buds have a really good rubber feel to the eartips, they sit better and grip on the ear much better.
Price:
You basically pay two times the price just for the design. Which I am really considering right now.
ANC:
This one really bummed me out like crazy. For 42 dB ANC, the cmf buds have like really good noise cancelling! For a 45 dB ANC, the ear (a) really does a shit job at what it does. The ANC works selectively which is very disappointing. Makes you feel like an idiot for thinking spending more would get you a better device with better features.
Hello @Derren I will try that. But this is a bug right? Kinda weird, this is the first time I’ve faced this.

Phone (2a) Plus front camera issues
Been a day since I’ve started using the 2a Plus properly. Moving from a 2a to a 2a Plus, you really can’t tell the difference. I’ve noticed serious glare issues with the front camera. Not sure if it is just me. If you are side facing some kind of light, the pictures looks like someone reduced the contrast to way low, giving the picture a very weirdly hazy matte kind of feel (the front camera video quality was really good on the 2a). Video calls looks real bad unless you are sitting against the light in the room and really take an effort to make sure the light doesn’t cut the front camera at the wrong angles.
Hello @Rob
,
Thank you for a super prompt reply on this! That’s assuring to know.

Hey guys,
Can someone help me understand why the company provided case for the Nothing Phone (2a) does not have a hole for the mic at the back (near the flashlight).
It’s been itching at my brain ever since I bought the phone to find out if this was deliberate or if it’s a miss from the team.
Thanks
