0.85 update and feedback. Some of which noted by other users already:

  1. Over sensitive touch response.
  2. Battery drain worse than 0.83
  3. Unable to pick up phone calls. Need to first select a different audio source (e.g. your phone or phone speakers) and reselect ear 1 for it to connect.
  4. Play back pauses when screen goes to sleep.

I have (2) and (3) against the AirPods Pro, AirPods 2nd and 3rd generations and Sony WF-1000XM4 to verify it is not the phone or the App (using audio source on device so I don’t get any network connection related problems) and only the ear 1 has these problems.

Finally I tend to get a quick response on the forum but the support response is painfully slow and incomplete. I don’t think they are reading the mails properly - and of course I acknowledge it’s Xmas time but even with that considered……

ken_k Sorry an error in the note above. It is (3) and (4) that I tested with other buds.

    Some initial feedback:-

I’ll be using my ear(1)'s without my phone (when I go running I use a great little Spotify player called might vibe bemighty.com) and the tap and hold to change between noise cancellation/transparency/off would be better if it gave the letter in your ear for the mode you switch too e.g. N or T or O instead of different sounding beeps.

So I was using my ear(1) fine for a few hours then I got home to charge the case. Whilst charging, I wanted to take the buds out to use them etc then I had the below error occur

Basically my left ear was completely disconnected. I tried everything to fix this but what did help was a removal of the ear(1) from my device & app, and then it was good as new.

Not sure why this happened as both ears were at 100%, but definitely one to flag/look into for a future bug.

Thanks for the feedback once again Daywalker. We’re planning to release a big firmware update soon, so hope to improve your experience with that one. 😉

        a month later

This is the first time I’ve used the feedback page. I’ve had my Ear(1)’s for about 6 months now. I love them they take me out of the world I’m in and off to somewhere most of the time better!

I do however thing the design of the ear plug could be better the oval makes them fall out of far too often. I now use a Beats ear plug on the end of my Ear(1) as I feel it doesn’t fall out as much.

My app is also very temperamental when it comes to Noise Cancelling. I will click off but that will only turn it on or make noise cancelling light. It didn’t happen for the first 3 months but since December I’ve not been able to use noise cancelling selection features on the app.

Also, with the original ear(1) plugs my left charging port would quite often not charge my left ear because it wasn’t fully on the magnetic prongs. I now always adjust it slightly to make sure it charges.

Love the product just itd be even better with these changes!!! Excited to see what the future has in store.

Excellent feedback, Isaac99. I agree we need a better response when it comes to those app inputs. We should also look into the earplugs/tips when thinking about the future.
In any case, have you tried resetting the buds and/or reinstalling the app on your phone?

Some things were said a lot so I will focus on three obvious things that bothered me :

-the touch control are, like on every other touch controled earbuds, hit or miss. You always have to do an action 2 or 3 times to do exactly what you wanted and you have to be really precise… If you ever touched the haptic press on the airpods pro, you’ll know what’s best to control your earbuds : you can’t press by accident your earbuds - you can’t make two press instead of one, each press is distinctive and constent. Maybe you don’t have volume control, but like always, its about quality and not quantity.

-While I have no doubt it is beautiful, the design of the case is not so clever : why would there be so much air in it ? I love the transparency and the feeling of lightness, but man the case is bigger than a lot of competitors, and it truly could be a lot smaller ! The upper part is empty and the hole for the thumb is not that much of a fidget toy. My advice : either fit another battery in this blank space so that the size of the case is actually justified or get rid of it. Compared to my airpods pro, the case is big, it is squared and cant be opened with one hand, and these are the little thing that counts when you compare directly two products. Remember : the earbuds are seen, but the case is buried 90% of the time in my pocked or in my bag, so Function over form is required for the case in my opinion.

The deal braker for me between airpods pro’s and ear 1 : the transparency mode. I think you guys undermined this use case and put noise canceling as the main thing, but it really is not for a lot of people. There is more time in a day where you need to hear what’s going on outside than there is where you need it to be blocked. The transparency mode does not feel natural enough so that I can keep my earbuds in my ear without listening anything, or while talking to someone, or to hear trafic while cycling… and It just is as much if not more important than a good noise cancelation for me.

Of course, the ear 1s have qualities everyone know of so I only talk about downsides here,

I hope I was constructive enough and that it may help you,

great day to everyone that reads this !

Stachmou Some good feedback here and I am sure the team will review carefully.

It sounds like you’ve got some ideas on how these areas could be improved?

Take a look at Future Ideas where you can build on this feedback more, to illustrate exactly how you would improve them - is one of them about customising the buds touch sensitivity, perhaps you might want to discuss ideas for a different case design, or maybe you have ideas of adjusting the transparency equaliser?

Before creating a new post, make sure to read 3 Golden Rules 😃 and double check someone else hasn’t already come up with the same idea as you already. If they have, feel free to comment on their post and give it a like 👍

One of my early ideas (which others also raised) was about introducing Voice Assistant functionality. Goes to show you that the team here really do list as the latest update is all about this 🙌

              Hey ,

Was enlightening reading about the bugs everyone has highlighted. I have experienced similar over my usage of 4 months.

              1. Earbud not connecting with phone despite taking it out of the case
              2. Flaky behavior on the app, doesn’t always show battery precentage
              3. Doesn’t allow mapping to voice assistant of choice

I will try and be active here on a daily basis 🙂

              Hey all,

was really interesting to see everyone’s bugs with the earbuds. I’ve had the buds for around 4 months or so and they’ve been fine up until the last month or so where I’ve started to experience 2 main issues.

              1. The right earbud never wants to connect right away. If I put the right one in first and wait a few seconds sometimes it will but sometimes I have to put it back in the case and then in my ear for it to connect. If I put the left earbud in first the right one will never connect on the first try.
              2. Noise cancellation randomly turns off after putting the buds in the case. This is occasional, sometimes it will sometimes it won’t.

                Hello!

I´ve been using the Ear 1’s since I got them at the HBX release in August.
I have loved them and I think that it’s such a cool product. Definitely the best looking earbuds on the market.
However there is a bug that doesn’t seem to get fixed and a new one that has come up with the new firmware update.

                1. At times, the right earbud just seems to stop working. I have to put both buds back in the case and close the case. Then re-open it and sometimes this does the job. Other times it just doesn’t work. The right earbud doesn’t show up in the app at any time. Either I just put them away for a couple of minutes and then it works perfectly or I do a full reconnect with the pairing button. A lot of people are talking about this issue (reddit) and I haven’t found a real response or acknowledgment of it yet.

                2. This bug came with the new firmware update in my experience. When listening to music it just sometimes cuts out for 1 second. Not a big issue but kind of annoying because I instinctively think that I’m getting a call.

Besides these bugs still in love with them and I look forward to the future of Nothing as a company! 😀

                Cheers!

Probably just a personal issue, though my ear canals itch a bit after using for a while. I’ve ordered some Spinfit silicone eartips to avoid that. Otherwise, super happy with Nothing ear 1 Black Edition.
