https://nothing.community/d/2870-screen-issue-noticed-after-installing-tempered-glass-at-right-edge

Purchased a Nothing phone 2 from Flipkart on November 6th, delivered as an open box item. Upon the hurried departure of the delivery person, it was discovered that beneath the protective film, the display glass exhibited irregularities near both corners.

Flipkart declined to offer support, citing the open box delivery. Visited the nearest service center, which was over 45 kilometers away from my home, on November 7th. The technician acknowledged that it was undoubtedly a product quality issue. Not only was the display glass surface irregular, but there was also a minute gap in the attachment of the display panel to the body.

As per the service center’s advice, they intended to inform the brand about the issue. However, 48 hours passed with no response from the brand to the service center. I diligently shared all the details with Nothing’s official email but received only new reference numbers and no resolution.

Repeated calls to their official helpline were unfruitful, as the customer care representatives clarified that the helpline was solely for technical assistance and providing service center addresses. They indicated no link to Nothing’s backend/technical team or the service center. They even suggested initiating a conference call between myself, them, and the service center staff, wherein they would ask the staff about the brand’s response. This lack of coherent support persisted even when requesting a valid response via email.

After four days of no substantial updates from the service center except for the confirmation that the brand had not responded, and with the replacement/return window approaching its end, I contacted Flipkart Support to raise a complaint. They generated an incident ticket and assured me that someone from their backend team would address the issue.

As anticipated, a representative from Flipkart contacted me the following day and promptly dismissed any concerns about the issue, citing the open box delivery and indicating that the brand’s service center would provide the solution.

Realizing that Nothing seemed likely to happen with regard to the issues with the Nothing device, I traveled to another significant service center, over 300 kilometers away from my home, to reiterate my query.

Initially, they claimed not to detect any defects on the phone. However, after persistent insistence and a thorough inspection, they eventually acknowledged the issues with this Phone 2. However, the brand maintained that these were not considered issues, and thus, they couldn’t offer any assistance.

According to Nothing, purchasing a phone worth over 45,000 rupees with an irregular display surface and panel attachment isn’t a problem. It will only be considered an issue if subsequent defects arise due to these quality control issues.

Finally, as per the service center if the brand says Nothing we will do Nothing but we are happy to help on this Nothing.

And as per the latest update from the Brand technical support team which was on a phone call, There is no issue It’s a new design of Display. Well as per Nothing, having display grooves and irregular display cut-outs is a new design that makes the brand more innovative.

Thank you Nothing for giving me the worst support and sorry for trusting a new Brand like Nothing.

Hey everyone. Our technical team conducted tests regarding the reported issue and found that similar issues occur on various mobile screens. Your phone’s screen is made of tempered glass, which includes several layers: a protective outer layer, a touch-sensitive layer, and a backlight layer. The tempered glass film itself, being part of this structure, can interact with external light sources in various ways, such as reflecting and refracting light. If there are substances like oil stains on the screen, they can further affect the light’s behaviour, diminishing its transmission. Rest assured, these are normal characteristics of the screen and do not indicate any quality issues with your phones.

Feel free to reach out to me directly via the private discussions feature if you have further concerns regarding this phenomenon and I’ll do my best to help.

AmrikRoy Disturbing, to say the least, reading about the lackadaisical attitude of Nothing service centre / Nothing Support.

Such a defect warrants an immediate replacement.

I do hope that someone with the reach escalates your issue to the proper level & you get a replacement.

Such sad narratives are bad for the reputation of a new company.

This is again I state OnePlus reincarnated.

This is exactly how that brand acted towards owners of handsets.

They charged many owners for new screens on the 8 & 9 series & only when it got more highlighted on social media & to some well known influencers & sites, did they decide to offer new screens, but that wasn’t without major hurdles, as even with a tiny mark they refused foc screens & didn’t refund previously charged customers.

So to see how you’re being treated only lends to the fact this is what Carl Pei brought from his previous brand & he has no morals or respect for his loyal customers.

I mean seriously, we’ve both shown via 100% proof video that there are hardware & manufacturing issues with the handsets, there are now many owners with touchscreen issues.

Are they seriously going to say there’s no problem with the screens or builds

    Gaslighting at it’s worst imho.

This will end only one way, legal & I for one am fedup with hardware companies taking our money then refusing to acknowledge or fix irrefutable evident issues.

I’m going to the Nothing store today & I will be taking this up with the area or UK manager as this is utter BS imho.

You can’t refute hundreds of people complaining about the same issue, it’s just very wrong.

I paid good money for a supposedly advertised good handset, clearly I got a taken for a ride & if they do not resolve this one way or another, I’m personally going to raise a legal complaint against nothing UK, I’ve had enough of this BUY NOW, NOT FIX LATER mentality.

I came from a brand that operated this way for years & from reading the forums still do, damned if I’m going to accept that again.

That’s a lot, hardware quality issues on a premium phone should be addressed at the earliest. We believe in nothing brand, there’ll be few bad apples within the supply chain but i hope your issue is looked after and resolved.

Nickman With respect, believing in a brand that now what months later still no fixes for fairly big issues is a fantasy & they hardly ever reply & when they do, they suggest idiotic things & try to shift the blame to other reasons like external interference, I mean you couldn’t make this crap up tbh even if you tried.

So Nothing, if it’s external, why did you replace someone phones & the same issues happened all over again & the user has confirmed there has been zero external influence to cause such problems.

They need to own it & fix it, or refund, end of.

NHN It’s a very serious Quality Control issue from Nothing. Need to be addressed ASAP .

The service center says the brand decision is final but we(Service center technicians) do agree it has issues and Nothing support says the Service center decision is final. They are just playing a round-robin trick.

Brand denies their issue rather they claim it is a new display design. How wonderful the design is see, the design holds bubbles only on the corner edges. Thanks to their design Team.

I hope this post reaches the maximum number so that Brand takes the issue on a serious note and helps to sort this out.

Lmao new design, yeah, that not other phone manufacturer uses & even Nothings own glass protector won’t sit flat on either.

So that does beg the question now, if it’s by design, why do they offer glass screen protectors that clearly don’t sit flat flush, it’s contradictory & they can try wriggling out of it as much as possible, but it’s just complete & utter rubbish.

I also facing this same issue. According to Nothing, purchasing a phone worth over 45,000 rupees with an irregular display surface and panel attachment isn’t a problem. It will only be considered an issue if subsequent defects arise due to these quality control issues. Please replace or repair this issue

AmrikRoy I have always had a bad experience everytime I bought a Nothing product on Flipkart. Their policies like Open Box delivery are just made to safeguard them and doom the consumer. The delivery personnel just hurriedly tear through the packaging and don’t have any consideration for you to check the phone. A better policy would be to ask us to record the unboxing so that it’ll be clear if there is any issue immediately. Also, I have been made to chase both Flipkart and Nothing when I ordered the CMF earphones. I received a completely tampered package which was hidden inside another package and they rejected my return 3 times before accepting it after I pressurised them through social media. Honestly, I think the whole problem is them selling exclusively on Flipkart. Amazon has a much more customer-friendly approach with returns of defective or tampered products.

akhilVinayak_s After this issue was highlighted thru the bad experience faced by Amrik Roy while trying for a repair/replacement I too have noticed ripples at the edge of the display.

Perhaps N service refused to entertain Amrik’s complaint because the knew all replacements would have the same defect?

Perhaps the Indian variants are cheaper than the ones launched in the UK/US because the models launched in India have displays made by Visionox, a 2nd rate Chinese company & that too seconds(QC failed ) while the overseas models have flawless Samsung displays?

So many doubts & questions flooding my mind!

This has been a bad choice for sure.

            A lesson learned.

The more I read about Nothing company, the less I like it.

Happy if the display in my phone is from Samsung.

I am not going to keep it long time, but want the next owner to be happy with it.

@Gun_Put @NHN This is their final reply from Nothing Support Channels.

              Getting Nothing after buying Nothing.

              Quality Control== Nothing.

AmrikRoy The defective screen is a part of the design of the phone?

                Wow!

Flat out refusal to acknowledge an obvious defect.

If this is a sample of the quality of support we can expect, then we are doomed.

AmrikRoy same I too faced the same kind of issue with nothing phone 2, but got it replaced after 15 to 20 days. But even the phone I got for replacement had minor display fit issues but better than the first one. So I think it’s overall a quality control issue that every nothing phone 2 have that get noticed by someone like us and left unnoticed by most ones.

nikhiljradhesh yes I feel the same towards Flipkart. They have a return or replacement option in the app which is of no use as they would ask us to contact the brand’s service centre. And the open box delivery is a complete scam that they use to pay us more for secured packaging and open box delivery. These delivery persons are in a hurry to move that they just check as if the product is present and doesn’t let us check for any damages and ask for OTP. Flipkart is worst and the even worse is that they charge us extra for these.

Gun_Put yes bro. I got the replacement, but even the product I got for replacement had some minor display groves and display fit issues but better than the old one. Even if you replace its a doubt whether you will get a better phone or not.
